New Year, New Goals, New Resources In Finance, Health, And Education

Black-led organizations can help you reach your goals

A good approach in setting new goals for the new year is to narrow down our goals so they are focused, accessible and address what’s important. Intentional goal-setting can create lasting economic mobility and permanent stability if finance, health, and education are at the forefront.

Sometimes we need an extra push and layer of support. Fortunately, there are Black-led organizations that exist to serve as essential partners to close opportunity gaps through their support in their area of respective expertise, and help you reach your goals and objectives.

Finance

Savings Plan

Black individuals and families can build financial security effectively through a savings plan. Many people start each year by joining Operation HOPE to create emergency and short-term savings using automated methods which reduce financial pressure and protect households from unexpected costs. Operation HOPE has maintained a strong commitment to financial empowerment in Black communities because it understands that savings form the foundation of stability.

Wealth Plan

A wealth plan provides Black professionals and entrepreneurs with investment strategies and financial education to help build long-term assets. OneUnited Bank provides culturally relevant resources and support that help build generational wealth and ownership. The racial wealth gap requires ongoing investment together with financial education.

Pay Down Debt

Black consumers who have credit cards, student loans or personal debt can focus on paying down debt as a key financial goal. At the beginning of the year, people turn to GreenPath Financial Wellness for structured repayment plans because the organization works with community groups to provide counseling and debt-reduction help. Consumers who reduce their high-interest debt will see better cash flow while strengthening their financial stability for the future.

Health

Fitness

Consider fitness as a primary goal to improve your physical health and increase life expectancy. Black Girls Run! provides culturally positive fitness activities to help participants establish lasting exercise habits. Regular physical activity decreases the risk of chronic diseases and builds personal responsibility and community connections.

Diet

The role of diet in preventive health is crucial for Black communities due to experiencing elevated rates of diet-related illnesses. Black Health Academy delivers nutrition education, through cultural relevance, to educate people about making daily food choices which enhance heart health, boost energy, and improve overall wellness.

Therapy

Black individuals can access mental and emotional wellness support through therapy. The mental health resources and therapy services provide necessary support with options for continuous assistance. Through the directories Therapy for Black Girls and BEAM, individuals can access culturally competent care that improves mental health outcomes.

Education

Return to School

Academic enrollment provides individuals who want to advance their careers with the opportunity to return to school and complete degrees that enhance their knowledge base for a range of professions. United Negro College Fund is a great source for young degree-seeking students.

Tech Courses

The following training programs provide short-term education opportunities for Black learners who want to pursue high-growth tech careers. The training programs deliver instruction in digital skills along with software and IT skills. Blacks In Technology (BIT) workforce and training programs host these educational courses. The tech industry continues to need skilled professionals to compete in an innovative market.

Vocational Training

Vocational training programs target Black workers who want to pursue skilled trade careers. Programs deliver practical workforce training and job-readiness instruction through continuous enrollment periods. The NAACP Workforce Development Programs deliver this training for skilled trades that provide reliable income opportunities for individuals who do not have a four-year college degree.
