New York Fashion Week Africa Set to Start Next Month

Seeking to diversify New York’s infamous Fashion Week and showcase the ‘hottest of the hot’ in designer talent from the continent, New York Fashion Week Africa(NYFWAFRICA) will launch Sept. 11.

“New York Fashion Week Africa is essentially the Africa in New York Fashion Week,” said Adiat Disu, organizer and founder of Adiree, a luxury group and lifestyle brand. “It’s not just an event, but a strategy to provide a platform of sustainable activation in fashion capitals for global brands to communicate and build relationships with Africa during an established and highly regarded global calendar weeks, such as New York Fashion Week/Market Week.”

The line-up of designers who will showcase their Spring/Summer 2016 collections include: Asikere Afana of Jamaica and Ghana; Fikirte Addis of Ethiopia; Sakia Lek (of the Congo), Hilda Mauya of the U.S. and Kenya; Mauya of Kenya, Onyii & Co., of the U.S.; Osei-Duro of Ghana, and more.

This year’s schedule includes a luxury conference, where brands, media professionals and influencers will discuss Africa’s goods, tourism, retail, and manufacturing market.
