Chris Paul Signs With Los Angeles Clippers, Marking Return To Franchise He Led For 6 Years

In what may be his last NBA season, the future NBA Hall of Famer played with the Clippers from 2011 to the end of the 2016-17 season

After recently stating that this upcoming season may very well be his last, NBA veteran point guard Chris Paul has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, marking a return to the team he previously played with.

According to the LA Clippers, he is coming “home” after leaving the franchise at the end of the 2017 NBA season. The future NBA Hall of Famer played with the Clippers from 2011 to the end of the 2016-17 season. Details were not released on the length of the contract or the amount he’ll be making.

The Clippers’ President of Basketball Operations, Lawrence Frank, released a written statement announcing the news of Paul’s return.

“Chris is one of the most impactful players ever to wear a Clippers uniform, and it’s appropriate that he returns to the team for this chapter of his career,” said Frank. “Chris will help fortify our backcourt with his exceptional ball-handling, playmaking and shooting. He is joining us as a reserve point guard and is excited to fill whatever role T Lue asks him to play. He wants to be part of the group, and we’re fortunate to have him back.”

While leading the Clippers on the basketball court, Paul averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 steals as he played in 409 games. He took the team to the playoffs every year as the floor leader of the franchise. He is the Clippers’ all-time assists leader.

Chris Paul has played for seven teams throughout his NBA career. His first team was the New Orleans Hornets (2005-11). From there, he played for the Los Angeles Clippers (2011-17), Houston Rockets (2017-19), Oklahoma City Thunder (2019-20), Phoenix Suns (2020-23), Golden State Warriors (2023-24), and San Antonio Spurs (2024-25).

In Paul’s career, he has averaged 17 points, 9.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and two steals per game in 1354 NBA contests. As he embarks on his 21st season, he has been an NBA All-Star 12 times (2008-16, 2020-22) and has been named to the All-NBA team 11 times (2008-09, 2011-16, 2020-22). His defensive skills earned him a spot on the All-Defensive team nine times (2008-09, 2011-17). He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist representing the country in 2008 and 2012.

Almost 3 Years For Officer Involved in Breonna Taylor’s Death: A Slap On The Wrist That Defies DOJ Call

The Department of Justice recommended a significantly lighter sentence for Hankison.

An ex-officer involved in the house raid that led to Breonna Taylor’s murder has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

Brett Hankison will serve 33 months in prison for his use of excessive force during the 2020 raid, as reported by The Associated Press. At the raid, Hankison fired ten blind shots into the Louisville home of Taylor. Although none of his bullets struck anyone, his actions have now made him the first officer involved in Taylor’s death to be sentenced to prison.

In her sentencing of Hankison, U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings decided against a recommendation by the Department of Justice. The DOJ, currently under Trump Administration leadership, initially sought no prison time for Hankison.

It cited that the ex-officer would potentially face abuse in prison, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder. The decision also factored in two previous trials where Hankison evaded conviction, previously covered by BLACK ENTERPRISE.

The department recommended that he receive only time served, which would amount to one day, with a three-year probationary period. However, Jennings disagreed with the sentencing memo, which was released a week before her sentencing.

Judge Jennings deemed the move “not appropriate” given the jury’s guilty verdict. She argued that the department looked at his actions as an “inconsequential crime” backed by “incongruous” arguments. Furthermore, the judge was “startled” that no one was impacted or even killed by the multiple blind shots by Hankison.

Despite not killing anyone, the ten shots did go into a neighbor’s apartment, just barely missing an uninvolved family. The aggressive nature of the entire incident, which led to Taylor’s death at the hands of another police officer, sparked a slew of Black Lives Matter Protests across Louisville and the country.

The judge was not the only one in disagreement with the DOJ’s recommendation. The Taylor family’s attorney, civil rights lawyer Ben Crump, expressed his immense disappointment with the federal department’s proposal. The lawyer called it “an insult to the life of Breonna Taylor and a blatant betrayal of the jury’s decision.”

Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, also felt that the new prosecution over the case did not advocate for a stricter sentence.

“There was no prosecution in there for us,” explained Palmer following the trial. “Brett had his own defense team; I didn’t know he got a second one.”

However, Crump remains “grateful” about Hankison receiving some time. He also hopes that he uses the incarceration to think about Taylor’s life and the incident that took it away. In a family statement, they asserted that while the sentence does not feel like full justice, it still does more than what the DOJ suggested.

“While today’s sentence is not what we had hoped for–– nor does it fully reflect the severity of the harm caused–– it is more than what the Department of Justice sought. That, in itself, is a statement,” shared the Taylor family.

Department of Education Quietly Suspends Student Loan Forgiveness

There are an estimated 2 million borrowers who are currently enrolled in IBR. Many of them are approaching forgiveness but face delays and may still be required to make monthly payments even if they qualify for forgiveness.

The Department of Education has suspended student loan forgiveness under the Income-Based Repayment plan, widely known as IBR.

IBR is one of several income-driven repayment plans, with monthly payments that are generally equal to 15% of the borrower’s discretionary income, divided by 12. New borrowers on or after July 1, 2014, would pay 10% of their discretionary income. Under IBR, the Education Department considers the borrower’s income and family size when determining the monthly payment amount.

Payments are recalculated every 12 months. Individuals who do not repay their entire student loan within the stipulated timeframe are eligible for student loan forgiveness. Anyone who took out a loan on or after July 1, 2014, would have 25 years to repay it, while those who took out a loan before July 1, 2014, would have 20 years.

What Makes IBR Different Than SAVE, ICR, and PAYE?

Unlike SAVE, ICR, and PAYE, Congress created IBR separately. The IBR statute expressly authorizes student loan forgiveness at the end of the 20 or 25-year repayment term, which is why it remains unclear why the Trump administration is discontinuing IBR.

In 2024, a group of Republican-led states filed a lawsuit to halt income repayment plans, such as the SAVE plan, an income-driven repayment program introduced by the Biden administration in 2023. A federal appeals court issued an injunction blocking it. The court’s decision raised questions about whether student loan forgiveness was authorized under the federal statute that governs the SAVE program. Subsequently, the court blocked the SAVE, ICR, and PAYE programs.

“Forgiveness as a feature of the SAVE, PAYE, and ICR Plans is currently paused, because those plans were not created by Congress,” the Education Department said. “Generally, ED can and will still process loan forgiveness for the IBR Plan, which was separately enacted by Congress.”

However, as Forbes points out, the Education Department has not processed any student loan forgiveness under the IBR for borrowers who reach the 20- or 25-year threshold. A former official with the Office of Federal Student Aid suggested that the Trump administration could be violating the law by blocking debt relief under IBR.

“It is my understanding that as of April or early May 2025, federal student loan borrowers who are eligible for income-based repayment cancellation were still not having their loans cancelled—a process that has been paused since July 2024—despite the statutory obligation to do so,” the official stated in a declaration filed in a separate legal challenge over mass layoffs at the department. The same official also suggested the Education Department, which was recently gutted, is having difficulty updating qualifying student loan forgiveness payment counts.

What Student Borrowers Should Know

As of now, the Department of Education is claiming that the suspension of student loan forgiveness under IBR is paused “while our systems are updated to accurately count months not affected by the court’s injunction.” The Education Department is referring to the legal battle with the SAVE plan. The IBR, however, is the only program not subject to any legal challenges or court injunctions, and no court has ordered the department to suspend discharges under IBR.

There are an estimated 2 million borrowers who are currently enrolled in IBR. Many of them are approaching forgiveness but face delays and may still be required to make monthly payments even if they qualify for forgiveness. This means that new forgiveness will not be processed for now, and forgiveness may be delayed, even if borrowers reach the required payment count. It’s also likely that Interest will also still accrue.

Student loan borrowers should stay in IBR if they have it because it remains the most affordable plan. Continue to request forbearance, but keep in mind that the interest will still accrue.

Trump Diagnosed With Chronic Venous Insufficiency While Blacks Suffer With Disparity

The diagnosis is common, affecting close to 40% of the U.S. population but studies show that the Black community suffers the most.

After years of mocking former presidents for medical ailments, President Donald Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a disease known to attack African-Americans en masse with minimal solutions.

According to ABC News, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a letter from Trump’s doctor stating that the president had been examined after people started to focus on swelling in his legs, which the doctor labeled as “mild” and “benign.”

Chronic venous insufficiency is defined as a circulatory condition where leg veins struggle to return blood to the heart due to damaged valves. Dr. Andrea Obi, vascular surgeon at University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center and associate professor of vascular surgery at University of Michigan Medical School, explained the difference in veins

The larger veins, called deep veins, give a majority of blood to the heart, while superficial veins are found under the skin surface. “When the valves fail, meaning they don’t adequately return blood to the heart, the blood can back up into the leg, and that’s essentially what venous insufficiency is,” Obi said.

The diagnosis affects close to 40% of the U.S. population, but studies show that the Black community suffers the most. The Journal of Vascular Surgery revealed African Americans showcase more advanced stages of CVI than the White and Hispanic demographics. Sixty-six percent of Black patients living with the disease are deemed as overweight or obese and show fewer cases of improvement.

In comparison to the white or Hispanic community, African Americans have a higher chance of being treated in the hospital. While Leavitt claims Trump’s doctor claims CVI is common among adults over age 70, studies show African-Americans tend to be diagnosed at younger ages over other races—all blamed on an increased presence of ulcer debridement, defined as removing dead or unhealthy tissue from a wound to assist with healing deep vein thrombosis rates and hospital charges in Black communities.

Obi says most symptoms in patients are mild, with most having varicose veins, which happen when the blood stems into the superficial veins just under the skin, resulting in the veins becoming swollen, which can be uncomfortable and painful for those suffering. Patients with deeper veins may experience swelling around the ankle area, as seen on Trump, which can eventually spread to the knee.

In severe cases, CVI patients can experience discoloration of the skin. “When the blood pools down near the ankle level, you’ll get discoloration, and it’s a brown discoloration…and that brown discoloration is the result of the iron from the red blood cells that sort of pools there and gets picked up by your immune cells,” Obi said.

The good news is that treatment is typically nonsurgical, with doctors recommending compression as the first line of comfort, using compression stockings or an elastic wrap.

OK Rattler Nation! Florida A&M Takes Top Spot In Forbes HBCU Ranking For Online Programs

The school earned the top spot for its low cost tuition and high graduate rate.

Rattlers, rejoice! Florida A&M University has just taken the top spot in a new HBCU ranking published by Forbes Advisor.

The Tallahassee institution ranked No. 1 among HBCUs with the top online programs. Forbes released the list on June 27, spotlighting these schools’ ability to showcase their culture and academic prowess virtually. The publication compiled its ranking of the top 10 HBCUs that offered the most technological bang for their bucks.

Florida A&M made the top of the list with an average yearly undergraduate tuition of $5,785. It also boasts a high student retention rate of 86%. It mainly offers online bachelor’s programs, primarily in popular degrees such as information technology, sociology, criminal justice, and psychology. FAMU even holds the highest graduate rate of 57%, the highest out of all the schools mentioned.

“The university’s online degrees combine asynchronous course delivery with synchronous and fieldwork opportunities,” detailed Forbes. “FAMU also partners with Ed2go to offer open-enrollment career training programs online.”

The school also came out on top in terms of its low-cost tuition, earning the top score for the lowest student loan default rates among alums. For those seeking an HBCU education but already established in the workforce, the school offers flexible class schedules with an affordable application fee of $30.

Its tuition holds a stark difference from its runner-up, Delaware State University. The HBCU has an average in-state tuition of roughly $10K annually. However, its online program offerings can help those seeking degrees in public health, social work, and accounting.

Rounding out the top five are North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Bowie State University. The last HBCU to make the cut included Tennessee State University.

Although TSU has the lowest student retention rate at 60%, with an accompanying low graduation rate of 32%, the school still comes with its own unique benefits. It earned the top score, a remarkable 170%, for average percentage of tuition covered by financial aid.

Virtual learning offers a more accessible opportunity for students to still gain a quality education without the full-time commitment of in-person classes. For those wanting to receive an HBCU experience and degree, this academic pathway may help achieve this goal without sacrificing one’s wallet.

It’s Giving Obsessed: Trump Posts AI-Generated Video Of Obama Being Arrested Following Collusion Accusations

President Donald Trump can't seem to get over his obsession with former President Barack Obama after posting a strange AI-generated video of him getting arrested following Russian collusion accusations from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

President Donald Trump can’t seem to get over his obsession with former President Barack Obama after posting a strange AI-generated video of him getting arrested following Russian collusion accusations from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

According to Fox News, Gabbard claims her department uncovered “striking” findings that showcase “overwhelming evidence” that the first Black president of the United States was responsible for the Trump-Russia collusion probe following the 2016 election. “The implications of this are frankly nothing short of historic,” she said during a segment of “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“Over 100 documents that we released on Friday really detail and provide evidence of how this treasonous conspiracy was directed by President Obama just weeks before he was due to leave office after President Trump had already gotten elected.”

Shortly after, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to post the clip of his fantasy of Obama being arrested while he looks on smiling, stating “no one is above the law” to the tune of The Village People’s “YMCA.”

Social media users are calling for the 44th president to sue for the incriminating depiction. “I just think @BarackObama should sue idk,” @ladidaix wrote.

Others argue that this is merely a distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein case. Just days before the video was posted, the 47th president claimed Obama and other former Democratic leaders were behind the list of high-profile names accused of engaging in illegal activity with the former financier. Rumor has it Trump’s name is floating around on that list

Some users called out his hypocrisy of claiming no one is above the law since Trump holds the title of the first indicted president to sit in the Oval Office.

In addition to Obama, the files released by Gabbard list then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, and former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and others. Gabbard called the issue “so serious it should concern every single American because it has to do with the integrity of our democratic republic,” and claims to have “whistleblowers” scheduled to come forward soon. Leaders like House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) are calling the claims “baseless.”

BET, TYLER PERRY

Tyler Perry Fired His Aunt For Slacking On The Job

'She wasn't coming in, calling in all the time. So I was like, OK, you gotta go.'

Tyler Perry spoke publicly about the financial boundaries he had to set with his family members, including firing his aunt, who slacked on the job.

The billionaire media mogul sat down with rapper Jeezy and Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks founder and CEO, Derrick Hayes, on the latest episode of Kirk Franklin’s Den of Kings podcast, where he opened up after Franklin asked about “letting go” of relatives who take advantage of another’s financial success.

Perry shared that he set firm boundaries with a family member he hired after their constant requests for money, only for them to lose the job due to frequent call-outs and a lack of commitment.

“I fired my aunt. She said she wanted a job. She would always call asking for money,” Perry shared in a clip captured by the Art of the Dialogue. “I’m like, OK, I was sending money. I was like, ‘Listen, I want to help you. I don’t want to help you build this thing, not the welfare team. So let me give you a job.’

“She wasn’t coming in, calling in all the time. So I was like, ‘OK, well, you gotta go.’ Because you want me to hand you the money, but you don’t want to work for it. See, that doesn’t work for me.”

Perry applies the same lessons on work ethic to his 10-year-old son, explaining that he earns money by doing chores. The Tyler Perry Studios founder believes that simply giving handouts to family without effort “handicaps” them in the long run.

“That is the worst thing you can do,” Perry said.

He shared how, after his mother’s passing, he set firm boundaries with his family, something she had urged him to do before she died.

“And I’ve had family members that I’ve done that to because my mother asked me to. And when she passed away in 2009, I sent all of them letters saying, ‘Listen, you’ve got 60 days to become gainfully employed because I’m not going to keep supporting you like this,'” Perry said.

“They all got jobs. And it wasn’t even jobs where they’re making a lot of money, but it was a job,” he added. “It was something else for them to do to feel some pride in. That’s the same thing I would want somebody to do for me.”

Hayes also opened up about the lessons in tough love and legacy-building he’s learned as a business owner.

“Three of my early employees now have equity in Big Dave’s. My legacy isn’t just mine — it’s theirs, too,” he said. “I had to teach myself the business—profit, loss, EBITDA—so now I can sit at any table and talk strategy. I didn’t want to just have a product. I wanted to run the machine,” he added at another point in the conversation.

Social Media Manifests ‘Nasty’ Lawsuit Against Jacksonville Cops Seen Assaulting Black Man Over Headlights

Hopefully the officers will be held accountable as McNeil says the ordeal resulted in a chipped tooth, nine lip stitches, a concussion, and short-term memory loss.

A Black man may have a hefty lawsuit on his hands after allegedly being assaulted by police officers in a viral video for allegedly failing to have his headlights on.

The incident took place in February 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida, while the man in the video, identified as William McNeil Jr., according to Action News Jax, was talking to an officer of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office out of his passenger window, claiming he let the officers standing outside the driver’s window know the window didn’t work. McNeil then inquired why he was being pulled over in the first place when the officer let him know that he was driving without headlights on during inclement weather.

Then things went left after he asked the officer to pull up the law requiring headlights and a request for a supervisor to be called. Suddenly, an unidentified officer was seen smashing the driver’s window open with his elbow and demanding McNeil exit the vehicle — right before punching him in the face while his hands were in his lap. After he was assaulted, McNeil was asked to show the officers his hands.

https://twitter.com/kirawontmiss/status/1947071574634287141

When the victim was pulled out of the car, a police officer was seen giving him an uppercut punch to the chin while being arrested. “I was putting my hands behind my back….what is going on?” McNeil can be heard asking.

“I was just trying to have a regular conversation with yall.”

The lawsuit may come to light as civil rights lawyers Ben Crump and Harry Daniels are on the case to “fight for justice.” Crump has fought after many police brutality cases including the case of Tyre Nichols, where five Black Memphis cops were seen brutally attacking him when the victim was calling for his mother.

Attorneys like Chris Carson reviewed the highly disturbing video and said there should be no way these officers get away with this since there was no criminal activity seen. “I will say that video seems very over-the-top in terms of the officer’s behavior,” he said. “It doesn’t really seem there was any criminal behavior that was alleged on the part of the gentlemen. It’s a traffic stop. It happens 100 times a day.”

Social media users feel the same way, calling the actions unnecessary. While some claim the assault is a result of lack of training, others slammed that narrative. “It’s not a training problem; these people take the job so they can get their rocks off abusing people, especially black people. This is what they sign up for,” @insancegraphic wrote.

In a statement, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said an internal investigation is on the horizon “We hold our officers to the highest standards and are committed to thoroughly exacting what occurred,” the statement read.

Hopefully, the officers will be held accountable, as McNeil says the ordeal resulted in a chipped tooth, nine lip stitches, a concussion, and short-term memory loss.
