Power Broker Gets 7 1/2 Years In Prison

Prominent investment banker Nathan Chapman Jr. has been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay $5 million in restitution for defrauding Maryland’s retirement system and looting his own firm, eChapman.com. Chapman, 46, was convicted last August of 23 counts of fraud.

Wallace B. Jefferson is the new chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Jefferson, 41, has sat on the Supreme Court since 2001 and is the state’s first ever African American chief.

L. Douglas Wilder is making history again. Virginia’s former governor, the first African American to hold that post, is Richmond’s first popularly elected mayor in 56 years. Wilder posted a landslide victory during the 2004 elections, garnering 79% of the vote and sweeping all nine of the city’s districts.
