President and First Lady Obama to Address Educating Girls Worldwide

President and First Lady Obama plan to deliver remarks tomorrow at the White House regarding increased efforts to help adolescent girls worldwide attend and stay in school. The efforts are said to build on the investments we have made and the successes we have achieved in global primary school education, according to the White House Office of the Press.

Since the beginning of his presidency, President Obama has been very vocal about girls and their quality of education. He has encouraged various programs, like Women in STEM, to improve their academic and career opportunities. First Lady Obama has also been a strong supporter of the cause. Last year she delivered a thought-provoking address at The Summit for Young African Leaders, emphasizing the importance for world leaders to focus on girls’ education.

Before the President and First Lady begin tomorrow, there will be a pre-program in the East Room. Remarks will be given by the following:

  • White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett
  • U.S. Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY)
  • U.S. Representative Kay Granger (R-TX)
  • National Security Advisor Susan Rice

The pre-program is scheduled to take place at 2:20 p.m, right before the President and First Lady’s presentation at 2:50 p.m. The event will be live streamed on http://www.whitehouse.gov/live.
