Founding partner W. Scott Amey retired from his post at RS Information Systems Inc. (No. 15 on the BE INDUSTRIAL/SERVICE 100 list with $260 million in sales), leaving Rodney Hunt, CEO, president, and co-founder, to assume the additional role of chief operating officer. Amey, who had been COO since RSIS was created in 1991, wished to spend more time with his family.
Ron Trowbridge, part owner and corporate vice president of business development, now holds the title of executive vice president and is second in command to Hunt.
“With Amey’s retirement, the company recapitalized,” says Jim Amanna, corporate communications director of RSIS. “Proportionate to the shares they held prior to Amey’s retirement, Hunt and Trowbridge purchased Amey’s shares. As a result, they are now the sole RSIS shareholders.”
Hunt says the changes allow RSIS to be more responsive to customers and better anticipate changes within the contracting field. “[We’re looking] at strategic acquisitions and [are considering] taking the company public,” Hunt reveals.
The black-owned RSIS, based in McLean, Virginia, has become one of the nation’s largest federal technology services contractors. Its 2004 revenues surpassed $315 million, and Hunt expects to bring in $370 million this year.
“By the end of 2008, we want to be the first African American professional services firm to do a half billion dollars annually in support of the federal government,” says Hunt.
