Santorum's Comment Ties Black People to Public Assistance

Republicans have argued that President Obama wants to make Americans more dependent on federal government for some time. But Rick Santorum took it a step further on Sunday when he said that black people’s lives would improve without using “somebody else’s money.”

“They’re pushing harder and harder to get more and more of you dependent upon them so they can get your vote,” said Santorum. “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and their families.”

The presidential candidate weighed in after a man posed a question about foreign influence on the U.S. economy.
