It’s no surprise that, compared with other groups, African Americans have been hardest hit by the recession. Although the national average for unemployment has been declining since it peaked at 10.2% in October 2009, the unemployment rate for African Americans stands at 15.4%, a much higher rate than the 8.6% for whites and 12.4% for Hispanics.

Civil Rights Group Recognizes Emerging Leaders Dedicated to Eliminating HIV/AIDS

The National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights ground dedicated to ending homophobia and racism, joined communities across the nation and world to acknowledge that black people, families and communities have been the most impacted by HIV/AIDS. Blacks make up 12% of the U.S. population, but account for 44% of new HIV diagnoses, the highest rate of all races/ethnicities.
