Debt collectors want their money, and some are reportedly using Facebook and other social media to harass consumers who owe them. In response to this growing trend, the Federal Trade Commission is holding a workshop on April 28 to investigate how debt collectors are using (or misusing) new technology to recover debt and the impact this is having on consumers. The name of the workshop is Debt Collection 2.0: Protecting Consumers as Technologies Change. Consumer advocates, government officials, and other authorities on the issue will meet with the FTC to come up with solutions. The workshop is free of charge and is open to the public.
