Stuart Scott Set to Receive Jimmy V Perseverance Award at 2014 ESPYs

According to The Wrap, ESPN anchor, Stuart Scott, will be receiving the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at this year’s ESPYs. The Jimmy V Perseverance Award was named after and inspired by the late college basketball coach, who gave an impassioned speech at the 1993 ESPYs.

Scott, who is battling cancer, was first diagnosed with appendiceal cancer in November 2007. After two surgeries and months of chemotherapy, he was given a clean bill of health. The cancer returned two years later. Scott again had surgery in September 2013 and he is currently continuing  medical treatment.

“Stuart’s story is truly one of perseverance as he consistently displays strength, resilience and even humor while combating this terrible disease,” said ESPN President John Skipper. “Given how much Stuart has actively supported The V Foundation through the years from within ESPN, it is an honor to now present him with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award to celebrate the inspiration he provides to so many around him.”
