Tika Sumpter to Play Michelle Obama in Obama Romance Film

It looks as though the first couple’s love story has found a spot on the big screen in Hollywood.

Chronicling the romance of President Barack Obama and wife First Lady Michelle, Southside With You, will give movie-goers insight into the Obama’s first date in the summer of 1989 in Chicago’s South Side that included a visit to the Art Institute, a long walk and a screening of Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing.

Serving as one of the executive producers of the film alongside Richard Tanne, Hollywood starlet Tika Sumpter has been cast to play the first lady, as the search for an on-screen President Obama continues.

Other producers of the film include former Warner Independent executive Tracey Bing and Columbia pictures alum Stephanie Allain, who both share their excitement about the film coming to life.

“Stephanie and I are excited to produce this smart and timeless film that sheds light on one of the great love stories of our time,” Deadline reports Bing saying. “Richard really captures the essence of that romantic connection between Barack and Michelle that is so evident in the way that they look at each other. We are looking forward to finding the perfect Barack.”

Filming for the project is set to begin in July 2015 in Chicago.
