Tulsa Charter School Dismisses Child Because of Dreadlocks

A charter school in Tulsa, Oklahoma has sent a child home for her hairstyle, according to NewsOne.

7-year-old Tiana Parker has dreadlocks and according to the schools dress code, it is unacceptable.

The Deborah Brown Community School is a charter and there they have their own rules. The school claims that her dreadlocks are a distraction and that Tiana is not presentable.

The schools dress code rule clearly states that “hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, mohawks, and other faddish styles are unacceptable.” Although the dreadlocks are not allowed, Tiana’s father, Terrance Parker, claims that the school did not hassle him about the hairstyle the previous year that Tiana attended.
