What Type of Social Media User Are You?

If you have ever uttered, “You can tell a lot about someone by the way they tweet,” then you were on to something.  According to market research conducted by The Incyte Group, there are four major types of social media users: Fashionista Professionals, Knights with Shiny iMacs, Web-Building Techies and last, but certainly not least, Bargain-Hunting Mamas.

Developed by GetSatisfaction and Column Five, the infographic highlights the four types of consumers on social media that essentially comprise 65% of all users. Based on the statistics, the largest consumer group is the Fashionista Professional, which makes up 26% of users.  This social media savvy sect, ages 25-34, are active on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube. These “high-earning young professional women” also tap into their relationships with brands and hold immense purchasing power.

As early tech adopters, the Web-Building Techies offer real influence with their strong connections that span the web. They are the youngest and most connected of the bunch. These 21-24 year-old men stand strong at 29 million, and make up 16% of all users. If brands are looking for advocates, this is the demographic to target (if they’re offering an incentive).
