United Nations Hosts Women’s Entrepreneurship Day

New York’s United Nations hosts Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) with a celebration at the UN on Nov. 19 In partnership with the U.S. State Department and Global Entrepreneurship Week taking place Nov. 17 to Nov. 23, the event will celebrate females visionaries driving the economy and strengthening the world in 144 countries. “We will celebrate the unwavering positives that women entrepreneurs bring to the global economy,” says Wendy Diamond, CEO and Founder of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, “as well as empower and support future generations.”

In 2014, no nation has achieved gender equality. Women still make less than a man and are often relegated to stereotypical secretarial positions. This all comes despite females being the economic driving force of the world, nurturers, and birth mothers of business leaders and ideas worldwide.

November’s event begins with a New York Governor Andrew Cuomo proclaiming the day. Student ambassadors around the world will represent colleges across the nation with the mission to engage both genders by asking those involved to show support by making a choice to uplift and back a female entrepreneur or simply support the cause with their time, talent, or material treasure.

With founding partners including Microsoft, PwC, BNP Paribas, and the United Nations Foundation, the event at the UN will be simultaneously celebrated in 144 other countries with global female ambassadors leading the campaign from Barbados and Afghanistan to South Africa and Switzerland. The WED kick-off comes with other events and days branded in support of the female entrepreneurship effort like Women on Wednesday (#WomenWOW) taking place the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving (December 3, 2014). Launching the Women’s Certified Business Program (WCB) to find businesses to support, WED strives to impact a day that motivates the ladies of business across the planet.
