What To Expect From Apple’s Thursday Event

Apple may have released its latest iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in September, but with the holiday buying season approaching, the company isn’t done showing off its new tech.

On Thursday, Apple is set to announce what is assumed to be the next iteration of the iPad Air and iPad mini. But Apple could have a few more tricks up its sleeve, and show us some new products that have been in the rumor mill for quite a while.

Upgraded iPads

Every year, Apple’s revamped its iPad line with upgraded processors and a thinner design. Last year brought its high-resolution Retina display to the iPad mini, in addition to a feature-for-feature match between the mini and the Air.

Tomorrow could reveal a simultaneous upgrade for both large and small iPads. Included in that refresh could be a faster processor and the rumored TouchID built in to the home button, which will allow for one touch unlocking and purchasing from Apple’s App Store.

High-res iMacs

The 15-inch MacBook Pro is the largest high-resolution screen that Apple makes, but it could also be working on bringing its Retina display technology to its desktop computer, the iMac. Hints inside Apple’s upcoming operating system, OS X Yosemite, also show hints of being optimized for a high-resolution screen.

And while making 4K-resolution screens isn’t exactly easy, it’s just been proven possible by its competitor. Dell recently announced a 27-inch, 5K monitor, the perfect size for the 27-inch iMac that already exists.

No new MacBook Airs

If you were hoping Apple would bring its high-resolution Retina display to its ultraportable MacBook Air laptops, you’re going to have to keep hope alive for a while longer. According to Recode, the thin and light notebook won’t be receiving an upgrade this Thursday, but could go into production after December, which makes it a prime candidate for an early 2015 release.
