WNBA Player, Brittney Griner, Sets Blocks Record


According to ESPN, Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner, has broken a record with 11 blocks in a single WNBA game. The record of 10, was previously held by Lisa Leslie (2004) and Margo Dydek (2001). Griner also scored 21 points as the Phoenix Mercury beat the Tulsa Shock 80-77 on Sunday.

“I knew I had a couple of blocks, but I didn’t know how many,” Griner said. “To do that is pretty big, now I guess I have to try to beat it.”

Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles Sparks) achieved her 10 blocked shots vs. Detroit, September 9, 2004, while Margo Dydek (Utah Starzz) blocked 10 shots vs. Orlando, June 7, 2001.
