National Association of Women Business Owners Supports H.R. 2432

The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) propels women entrepreneurs into economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide.

This week, the NAWBO is expressing their support of a scheduled mark-up on H.R. 2432, “Women’s Procurement Program Equalization Act of 2013.”

The legislation, sponsored by Representative Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), seeks to amend the Small Business Act with respect to the procurement program for women-owned small business concerns.

“Women own 8.6 million businesses across the country, employing over 7.8 million people and generated $1.3 trillion in sales as of 2013,” said Billie Dragoo, the National Board Chair and Interim CEO of NAWBO.

“Female entrepreneurship has skyrocketed, increasing nearly 60% since 1997. It is therefore appropriate to examine the current federal procurement program to ensure women are being fairly represented. We applaud Representative Velazquez for bringing this important issue to the forefront.”

The House Small Business Committee will hold a mark-up of “Women’s Procurement Program Equalization Act of 2013” on Wednesday.
