Day 3: Experts Offer Tips for Getting ‘Unstuck’ in Your Career

Continuing the momentum of nonstop inspiration and advice to help take your career to the next level, day 3 of the Women of Power Summit included a session on helping women get unstuck in their careers.

Moderated by founder of the Center for Workplace Excellence, Trudy Bourgeois, attendees learned from book publisher Dawn Davis and leading executives Marlene Gordon and Barbara Carr on how to move their careers in the right direction towards meeting their goals.

With all of the panelists suggesting the ladies allot time for themselves to fully evaluate their career strategy to determine its effectiveness, Carr advised the women to be mindful of those in their circle and to make sure they have people around them who serve as a solid support system.

“That way when you go back to the battlefield, you’ re much more equipped because you’ve gotten the food you need,” said Carr who serves as vice president of agency and sales of the Southern Florida market area for State Farm.

While Gordon agreed with Carr, she said the key to getting unstuck not only lies in having a great support system, but also in the way you treat yourself.

“Your confidence comes from the things you are telling yourself,” said Gordon who is the  VP and General Counsel for North America Bacardi USA, Inc.

Bourgeois further elaborated on Gordon’s point and said, “getting unstuck starts with you taking full accountability for your actions.”

Continuing the conversation on upgrading your career, the ladies next activity included an outdoor garden luncheon hosted by Carnival that featured an Executive Diva Fashion Show by Macy’s with commentating by Women of Power TV co-host Dariany Santana and former Legacy Award recipient Audrey Smaltz.
