There’s a little trick when it comes to the game of golf: the way you carry yourself on the green far outweighs how you play the game. Golf swagger, if you will. Don’t get me wrong, its authentic skills that will get you the W, but working towards that inevitably takes time and right now all you have is your reputation (possibly even a job offer) on the line. Don’t fret, BlackEnterprise.com caught up with Rodney Green, director of golf at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, who briefed us on the dos and don’ts of golfing—whether you’re a beginner or a well-seasoned golfer. Do: Prepare before you hit the course Don’t let your first encounter playing a round of golf with peers also be your first time on the green. Opt to play at an off-peak time for practice or even take a few lessons. A golf lesson can range from $45 to $100 per lesson. Green believes lessons are worth the investment. “If you get some basic fundamentals, it helps you so much further down the road because you know you’ve got good basics.”

Anyone who has ever traveled internationally or on any flight longer than five hours for that matter knows that first class is the way to go. You’re treated to more space, amenities and overall comfort. Your stroke is just as important as the golf course you’re putting on. And for many novice and more seasoned players who want to get a hole in one, ambiance is everything. Golf is what draws golfers to the crème de la crème in courses stateside and abroad, but when they want to organize a family staycation, a getaway for two or fun business outing, it’s something a little more like the spa services or exclusive perks for being a luxury car driver that seal the deal. BlackEnterprise.com spoke to the founder and president of Golf Quests, Inc. Ty DeLavallade about today’s top golf resorts. See if your favorite made the list!

With summer in full swing, most people are in search of a destination getaway—a place to kick back and relax, while enjoying all that their temporary home away from home has to offer. But sometimes you can accomplish the same goal by taking advantage of the signature sites of your own city. Why not save up for the next getaway by opting for the convenient (and often more affordable) staycation? It’s an option Tanya Hall, executive director of the Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC)—a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau—urges locals to explore. “We want to make sure we have our own footprint in terms of a destination for African Americans,” says Hall. That very footprint includes various city sites, from the history housed at the African American Museum to down home southern cuisine offered at Ms. Tootsie’s Restaurant Bar & Lounge. BlackEnterprise.com packed up and explored the northeast domain, suggesting fun ideas for families, couples and solo travelers in the City of Brotherly Love. —Janel Martinez

Traveling abroad can bring about great memories, eye-opening experiences and lucrative business connections. But without the proper research and planning, it can also mean memorable faux pas that could inadvertently bring offense or embarrassment, specifically when it comes to a major part of one's trip: dining.
