5 Things You Should Leave Behind in 2017

Considering 2018 is at our doorstep, it’s the perfect time for a mental and physical detox before the New Year. Here are a few thoughts and behaviors you should ditch in 2017:

Stop sharing the hashtag #RelationshipGoals aka social media and the comparison trap

Social media captures one second of the truth. You don’t know what strangers or even people in your own circles are going through behind closed doors.  Take a break from the hashtag #Goals and to make sure your goals are aligned with the vision you have for your life. Take a social media detox at least once a month to evaluate your addiction to other people’s lives.

Stop “team no sleep and superman/woman complex”

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” Seriously? The “team no sleep” concept trickles down into your mental health and physical well-being. Even P. Diddy said it’s time for us to remix “Team No Sleep.” Drop the superwoman/man cape, and embrace self-care daily so you can take care of yourself.  Also, ask for help when needed. In the book Year of Yes, even Shonda Rhimes talked about the tremendous amount of help she has at home.

Stop waiting to be ready

You don’t have to have it all figured out to get started on your dreams. In fact, many entrepreneurs featured on BlackEnterprise.com figured out the success equation as they went along. Steve Harvey said it best, “The road to success is always under construction.” Accept the fact that you are a work in progress.

Stop reacting to news posted online without knowing the facts or full story

Nowadays, there’s a rush toward judgment, which can make things worse. Take note: Anybody can launch a website and post stories about people online.
