68 Occupy Protesters Arrested in NYC

New York Police Department cops left their posts in Times Square on New Year’s Eve to attend to a growing protest that took place at Zuccotti Park.

The former Occupy Wall Street control center filled with approximately 500 protesters Saturday evening. The peaceful gathering turned south when some occupiers began tearing down the barricades that have surrounded the park since police officers evicted Occupy Wall Street members on Nov. 15, according to the Associated Press.

The police department reported 68 people were arrested, with at least one person being accused of assaulting a police officer, who suffered cuts on one hand. Other charges included trespassing, disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment.
