Anowa Adjah is a health and fitness coach, motivational speaker, mother of twin boys, influencer, and the CEO of Anowa Adjah Works. She is making major moves, literally and figuratively, when it comes to health and fitness in general, but especially for thousands of curvaceous queens across the world. She has made her mark in the fitness industry as an innovator of both body image and beauty and has shown us by walking the walk and talking the talk, that you don’t have to be a certain size to be fit. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and Adjah truly helps women across the globe realize that being curvy is the new fit. Although Adjah has found her sweet spot with women who are embracing their curves, her workout DVD programs from Plyometric Pumpâ„¢, to Full Body Curve Downâ„¢, and Lose the Gutt Keep the Buttâ„¢, have found a tremendous amount of success with women no matter their shape or size.

As the end of the first quarter of 2017 is drawing near, it may cause some to become discouraged if they’ve gotten off to a slow start with their health and fitness goals. But don’t panic just yet, because that doesn’t mean that it’s too late to get summertime fine for Summer 17.

BlackEnterprise.com had an exclusive opportunity to catch up with Adjah to get her inside secrets on how she stays healthy and fit. Here are five easy-to-follow health and fitness tips that can benefit us all.

1. Have a very realistic and detailed goal in mind. In my years of personal training and coaching, I’ve assessed a higher success rate in clients who strived for more specific goals. When a client informs me that they want to lose weight and look great in their clothes, I ask them three questions: Why do you want to lose weight? What is your timeline for achieving this goal? Why 20 pounds and not 15? These three questions force the client to truly assess their goals, motivational factors, and their level of accountability.

2. Stay motivated! I always encourage people to “surround themselves with greatness.” When you embark on this health and wellness journey, make sure you are surrounded by positive people. Research shows that more people are likely to succeed on their journey when they have supportive family and friends. Honestly, this journey will be met with numerous challenges and it’s important to have a community of people that help you stay accountable.

3. Invest in success. One of the main excuses that I hear is “lack of money,” when people are conflicted about the costs of personal training and a gym membership. In response, I’m frank when providing the general cost of medical bills compared to a gym membership. There are more people that have disbursed large amounts of money toward hospital and medical expenses. Getting healthy should be at the top of everyone’s priority list.

4. Stay consistent. As with many other things, there should be a level of consistency if you want to obtain desirable results. Some days will be better than others. However, it’s important to stay committed to the process! If you fall off one day, make sure you pick up right where you left off. Don’t let the days get away from you. The sooner you make it to the gym, the sooner you reach your goal!

5. Reward yourself. I find it beneficial for clients to reward themselves once they’ve reached their goal. For example, buy a dress you’ve always wanted in a size smaller so that you have a motivational factor. Once you reach your goal, wear the dress and go out to a nice restaurant. Even better, plan a vacation so that you’re even more motivated. Also, this gives you a very specific timeline to reach your goal. Most people want to display their best bodies on vacation.
