Mayweather-Alvarez Sets State Record for Largest Boxing Gate

As the champion’s camp disclosed recently that Saturday’s main event between Canelo Álvarez and Floyd “Money” Mayweather holds the potential to be a $100 million dollar payday for Mayweather, it’s confirmed that a portion of that will come from Nevada state record gate receipts for a boxing match, estimated at $19.1 million.

Meanwhile, Mayweather’s company, The Money Team, has made no secret about its star’s earning potential leading up to the fight.

“Floyd’s going to retire with nine figures in the bank,” Ellerbe said. “I think Tiger Woods has a very good chance of doing that, as well. I can’t think of anyone else who has done that or who looks right now like they might do it.”

There have been estimates that would put the bout, being dubbed “The One” as the all-time grossing pay-per-view boxing event in history. The Money Team, it seems, likes those projections very much.

“The sky’s the limit on how well this fight does,” Ellerbe said. “You’ve got to remember we’re controlling what’s going on. We’re dictating. We’re dictating the terms. So, if it goes through the roof, then it is what it is. He stands to make a whole lot of money in this fight.”

Ellerbe clarified just how well that might be.

“Listen, if this fight goes through the roof, Floyd Mayweather could make $100 million in this fight as sure as we’re standing here talking,” Ellerbe said.
