In A Shocking Reveal, Offset Shares He’s Not Biologically Related to Quavo & Takeoff

It’s long been believed that the three members of the platinum-selling ra group Migos were all related. But as reality settles in following the death of Takeoff, the truth about Offset’s relationship with Quavo and Takeoff is coming to light.

Offset is gearing up for the official launch of his solo career. While he won’t be releasing his first solo album, following his “Father of Four” EP in 2019, his upcoming studio release is his first solo project in the wake of Takeoff’s fatal shooting which seemingly put the nail in the coffin on the Migos.

Now, Offset is opening up about how “hard” it is for him to even talk about Takeoff, who was killed in Houston, Texas in the early hours of November 1, 2022.

“I’ve never talked about this stuff. Seriously. Talking about Take is hard, man,” Offset told Variety.

“Talking about all this shit is hard. That’s why I don’t, to be honest. That shit hurts. Like, it’s gonna put me in a mood, and I don’t want to get in that mood. Some things I don’t never tell nobody. He’s not here. That shit feels fake, bro,” he says, shaking his head at the unreality of the situation. “I get through my day thinking it’s fake. And I don’t say nothing to nobody about it.”

For the longest, fans believed Offset was once removed cousins with Takeoff, as noted by Insider. Takeoff was the nephew of Quavo, and with the addition of Offset, the trio developed a unique sound that would become the Migos. With hits like “Bad and Boujee,” “Hannah Montana,” and “Stir Fry,” the trio rap group would go on to achieve platinum success and enjoy years at the top of the rap game.

But it turns out that Offset was never actually related to Takeoff or Quavo. It was more like a cousin relationship since Offset, real name Kiari Cephus, has been hanging out with Quavo and Takeoff since the sixth grade.

Offset was classmates with Quavo, and while Quavo was Takeoff’s uncle, the two were just three years apart in age. So when Offset struck a close friendship with Quavo, Takeoff was part of the packaged deal. In turn, Offset has been referred to as Quavo’s cousin, when they actually aren’t biologically related.

But the love between the group members was real. Offset even abruptly ended his interview with Variety after getting emotional when asked about Takeoff.

“No hard feelings about last night,” he says. “I got emotional.”

Things remain shaky between Offset and Quavo in the wake of Takeoff’s passing, via Hip Hop DX. Quavo and Takeoff were already pursuing a solo endeavor as a duo without Offset at the time Takeoff was murdered.

Fans remain hopeful that Offset and Quavo will eventually put their differences aside and come back together to release new music. But right now, fans can gear up for Offset’s solo album which features the final song he recorded with Takeoff, via XXL.
