As a lifelong baseball fan, former high school ballplayer, and coach for 20 years, I have always been struck by how closely baseball and learning are intertwined. An education advocate for most of my career, I have seen firsthand how the power and passion of sports can shift mindsets and create sustainable pathways to college, meaningful careers, and inspired lives. And perhaps no one better embodies this intersection of baseball and learning than civil rights activist Jackie Robinson, one of my childhood heroes, whose pursuit of equality on the field and off inspired social change in our nation’s classrooms, playgrounds, and beyond.
