Sha’Carri Richardson Gets Smoked by Elaine Thompson-Herah in Prefontaine Classic, Black Twitter Reacts

Sha’Carri Richardson didn’t do what she set out to do and faced fierce competition by the fastest woman in the world Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah who smoked the track, leaving “that girl” in the dust.

Thompson-Herah took first place in the Diamond League 2021 Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, Aug. 21 with a time of 10.54, racing her way to victory. Richardson didn’t even come close and placed ninth in the 100m race.

In fact, Thompson-Herah who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who won silver, and Shericka Jackson who claimed bronze, all dominated and placed in the same top three slots at the Prefontaine Classic, like they did in Tokyo.

Richardson competed in her first event since the U.S. Track & Field Trials. With her explosive running power, the 21-year-old Richardson was expected to be among the top runners heading into the Prefontaine Classic but she fell short.

Richardson also missed the Tokyo Olympics stemming from a failed drug test at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in late June. Richardson tested positive for marijuana use and her race results were invalidated.

After boasting that she had been waiting for this moment to prove herself — coupled with a new Nike commercial that aired during the race — Richardson didn’t meet everyone’s expectations and the disappointment oozed all over Black Twitter.

One critic threw shade at her marijuana use.

Some pointed out that second place Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was laughing at Richardson as she spoke to the press after the race.

Even Roland Martin added his thoughts to the mix.

The jokes and shade keep coming.

It even seemed like Thompson-Herah brushed off Sha’Carri with some slight shade.
