Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ Exclusive 18k Gold Nike Sneakers Took 60 Hours To Create

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens may have opted for more intimate nuptials initially. However, they still managed to do it big in their second ceremony, including wearing matching 18K-gold Nikes that reportedly took over 60 hours to create.

Biles and Owens’ first round of making it official happened last month at a Texas courthouse. Biles uploaded photos of their big day to Instagram with the caption, “I do 🤍 officially owens 🤍” and set off a barrage of comments from trolls criticizing her appearance. In the photos, Biles and Owens rocked more relaxed looks that many felt weren’t acceptable for such a big occasion. The most-decorated gymnast of all time opted for $35 Amazon shoes and a $120 dress, according to Blavity.

The cost for minding your business is free; however, what the couple wore for their destination wedding in Cabo Saint Lucas, Mexico, this past weekend had quite the price tag.

Along with a Galia Lahav gown, one of four she wore during the weekend’s festivities, Biles rocked a custom pair of Nike Air Force Ones created by a Maryland designer that was decked out in 18K-gold bling. Leila Bensarghin, who owns the online shoe customization shop Lei Lab Crystals, said the undertaking was one that she knew had to be perfect. “As we’ve seen with other features of her wedding, Simone cares about details. So I personalized every part of the shoe — including some hidden customizations inside only visible to Simone and Jonathan. They also received custom display shoe boxes,” Bensarghin said.

According to People, the shoe’s design included gold crystals along the seam lines and pearls filling in the iconic Swoosh, toe caps, and heel tabs. “Simone requested incorporating pearls into our initial gold Swarovski crystal design. So, I mocked up a gold and pearl Nike swoosh, and we fell in LOVE with how the two complemented one another,” the designer revealed. Biles’ beau also rocked a pair customized with their last name and wedding date.
