Taste of Jamaica Restaurant will open its doors to the people of Sacramento on December 31st, 2013, making it the only Jamaican restaurant in the local area.
The restaurant aims to bring the vibrant culture of Jamaica into California’s capital by offering classic Jamaican dishes in a setting reminiscent of the Caribbean island country. All of the food on the menu at Taste of Jamaica Restaurant will be completely authentic.
“There is no other place on earth where you will find a culture as dynamic as that in Jamaica,” said Noel Scarlett, Head Chef at Taste of Jamaica Restaurant. “Its people are a mixture of the many ethnicities that have landed on the island’s shores for the past several centuries.”
“The Jamaicans are true survivors,” he added, “having weathered oppression and other challenges for years, and they have many fascinating stories just waiting to be told. This is our attempt to tell those stories through great food.”
When most people think of Jamaica, they think of gorgeous beaches, reggae music, rich coffee, rums and cheerful people. Taste of Jamaica’s goal is to add the authentic Jamaican cuisine to this list with the help of its signature dish, jerk chicken. In addition to its restaurant dining, Taste of Jamaica will also offer catering services for weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate grand openings, birthdays, anniversaries and more.
For its grand opening, Taste of Jamaica will debut its weekly event, Reggae Reload. This event features live international reggae acts, every Friday and Saturday from 7 PM to 2 AM. At the grand opening, the special guest is Papa Michigan from the group, Michigan & Smiley.
“We want Taste of Jamaica to be a destination spot for people throughout the Sacramento area,” said Scarlett. “This is something completely different for the region, and as such, we strive to make this a great cultural experience, as well as a great dining experience. We are extremely excited to open our doors for business as the calendar turns to 2014.”
