Thanksgiving Shopping: Kmart to Stay Open 42 Consecutive Hours

If you’re hoping to begin your holiday shopping super early, you’re in luck. Kmart announced it will open the doors of its superstore at 6:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. Much to the delight of shoppers, the store will stay open for 42 consecutive hours, closing midnight on Saturday. Sears, which is part of the Kmart family of stores, will open at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

“With so many integrated retail options available — from Free Store Pickup to Pay In-Store to In-Vehicle Pickup — members will enjoy more convenient ways to shop Sears and Kmart Black Friday doorbuster deals how or when they choose,” said Leena Munjal, senior vice president, Sears Holdings, in a statement. “This holiday season is all about giving more to our members and because many like to start shopping well before Black Friday, we’re excited to open our doors early on Thanksgiving and offer other early access opportunities for them to shop and save,” Munjal continues.

In addition, Kmart has decided to resume its no-money-down layaway feature for Shop Your Way members. The store says this is in response to shopper requests. Kmart asserts that the layaway option will help shoppers manage their holiday budgets. Layaway at Kmart is available now through November 15 and no minimum purchase is required.

Here are a few tips for shopping during these early-bird sales:

  1. Keep an eye on your wallet. Thieves love these kinds of events. They will wait until you’re distracted and they make a play for your pocket.
  2. Stick to a set budget. It’s so easy to buy more than you need when there are “sale” signs everywhere. Take a list with you and stick to it.
  3. Know what you’re going to buy before you go to the store. Look through the store’s circular and plan what you are going to purchase. This way, you’ll be more likely to stick to your budget.
