TNT Orders a Late-Night Pilot Series Hosted By Actress Niecy Nash

Niecy Nash may become the next host to rule late night television. According to a report in Variety, TNT has ordered a pilot series called “Naked With Niecy Nash.” If the pilot gets picked up as a series, then the Claws star would become the second woman to host a late-night talk show that is currently on network TV along with Samantha Bee, the host of TBS’ “Full Frontal.” It would also group Nash with a handful of black women who have hosted a late-night TV show in the past like Whoopi Goldberg, Mo’Nique, and Wanda Sykes.

On the show, Nash will provide her comedic take and advice on love, sex, romance, and relationships.  TNT described “Naked With Niecy Nash” as “a decidedly unique show with a late-night feel” that will let Nash “serve up a tall glass of humor, advice, and one-of-a-kind ‘Niecy-isms’ on all things love, sex, romance and relationships with everyday people. The pilot will tap Niecy’s unparalleled strengths to inspire, empower and make viewers laugh out loud. Nothing is off limits and no topic will be out-of-reach.”

In addition to hosting “Naked With Niecy Nash,” which is a play on Nash’s 2013 self-help book It’s Hard to Fight Naked, Nash is also an executive producer on the series. “I’m so excited to add my voice to the late-night landscape,” she said in a release. “Love is the thing we were created for but it’s also the place we struggle the most … until now! This is going to be a fun and sexy ride! TNT is the perfect partner for me in this endeavor! Adding an experienced and amazing executive producer and showrunner like Sue Murphy to this mix was the cherry on top,” added the 48-year-old actress and comedian.

Sue Murphy, the former showrunner for E!’s “Chelsea Lately” and an executive producer and writer on the Netflix talk show “Chelsea,” will serve as an executive producer and showrunner on “Naked With Niecy Nash.”

“Niecy’s award-nominated work in our hit series, Claws, doesn’t even begin to cover the range of talent she can bring to television,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming at TNT. “Her improvisational skills, laugh-out-loud sense of humor, honesty, and thoughtfulness about the subjects of love and relationships made her book, It’s Hard to Fight Naked, a best-seller, and make Sue Murphy and Niecy Nash the perfect team to bring this type of playful show to TNT.” Aubrey also assured viewers that “despite the title, Niecy will be doing the pilot fully-clothed.”

Along with shooting Claws, which was renewed for a third season back in July, Nash was recently cast in “Central Park Five,” an upcoming series produced by Ava DuVernay for Netflix.
