UBR Spotlight: Fashion Icon Beverly Johnson Models Business Leadership

This week on The Urban Business Roundtable, UBR Contributor Renita D. Young speaks with fashion icon, supermodel and entrepreneur Beverly Johnson about her new Lifestyle brand hair and skin care line, now available at Target stores nationwide. During a career spanning a remarkable three decades, Johnson has balanced the roles of model, actress, activist, author and entrepreneur.

In 1974, Johnson made history as the first Black model to appear on the cover of Vogue. It was an auspicious achievement that would establish her as a timeless beauty and pioneering icon in the world of fashion. Later, Johnson went on to become a model of business leadership, partnering with hair line distributor Amekor Industries and launching  the Beverly Johnson Hair collection of wigs and hair care products. Johnson launched her new luxury Lifestyle brand in 2010. She joins the Roundtable to share the motivators that led her from the runway to the boardroom.

Also, UBR Contributor Samantha Pass speaks with former Navy Seal Robert Roy, who trains entrepreneurs and business leaders to be stronger and tougher bosses as the founder and president of Special Operations Training Group, a leading company for military consultants. Roy will share keys to developing great business leadership skills.

And finally, every week on UBR, you’ll hear my “Alfred’s Notepad” segment, get motivation and inspiration from author and entrepreneurial icon Farrah Gray, a weekly wrap-up of business news from USA Today business correspondent Charisse Jones, our Patient Investor Report from Ariel Investments and key economic intelligence for small business owners from our UBR economists Derrick Collins and Rasheed Carter.
