The next generation Cayenne S Hybrid is Porsche’s first production hybrid. The luxury SUV’s electric motor and its V6 combustion engine are connected to each another by a decoupling clutch, which allows the car to be driven either by the electric motor or the combustion engine alone, or by both drive units together. With its combined power output of 380 horsepower, the hybrid has the performance of a V8 with the economy of a V6. The Cayenne S Hybrid can cover short distances on electric power alone, free of emissions and noise up to 60 km/h or almost 40 mph. It is 1.9 inches longer than its predecessor, and has an added 1.6 inches in wheelbase. Both pricing and the SUV’s EPA-rated mpg are still to be determined. The Cayenne S Hybrid goes on sale this fall. (Image source: Porsche)
