Television just isn’t the same. Nowadays, you’re more likely to see a reality show starring a person of color than a scripted one. Many of us who grew up on Black family sitcoms like The Cosby Show, A Different World and The Jeffersons—which portrayed a positive side of the African American experience—may find most of what’s on the air now pales in comparison but there are a few gems in the crowd. More and more, some of Black Hollywood’s finest are taking their talents from the big screen to the small screen and there are emerging programs—both scripted and reality—that are more than catfights and scandals.
