3 Reasons Why You Should Live Stream the United State of Women Summit on June 14

On Tuesday, June 14, the White House is welcoming over 5,000 women to the United State of Women Summit in Washington, DC. With a goal to gauge the state of gender equality around the world and look into the range of issues including economic empowerment, health, and wellness; the Affordable Care Act; and changing care delivery; the all-day summit will serve to rally women together to make a powerful difference in their communities across the country.

Featured guests and speakers includes, President Barack and Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Beverly Bond, founder, Black Girls Rock; Kimberly Bryant, founder and executive director, Black Girls CODE; Mariska Hargitay, founder and president, Joyful Heart Foundation; Melissa Harris-Perry, professor, Wake Forest University, founder, Anna Julia Cooper Center; Lana “MC Lyte” Moorer, founder, Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, and many more.

Although registration is closed, you can still celebrate and join the discussion via live-stream here. Beyond watching an incredible lineup of speakers, here are three more reasons you shouldn’t miss it:

Reason #1 – Be inspired. According to a statement released by the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama will join Oprah Winfrey for a conversation about “Trailblazing the Path for the Next Generation of Women.” The conversation will aim to inspire the next generation of women, shedding light on the progress the first lady and Winfrey have seen women achieve, and to encourage young women to take action so that progress continues for generations to come.

Reason #2 – Know your rights as a woman – When faced with unfortunate situations in life such as gender inequality, violence, or bias in the workplace, women often feel like they have to face these issues alone. But the fact is, you’re not alone, and your human rights are protected by law. With a diverse lineup of speakers and special guests discussing gender equality issues, economic empowerment, health and wellness, education, violence, entrepreneurship and innovation, leadership, and civic participation, viewers can gain some insight into federal laws, national programs, and support groups.

Reason #3Learn how to take action in your community. Gathering a group of amazing women under one roof is great. And highlighting social injustice and sharing information is wonderful. But what happens next? The Summit will serve to rally women together to discuss solutions and ways to take action in their respective communities.

Remember, “When we do better, everyone does better.” Don’t forget to tune in via live stream on June 14. But in the meantime, watch this incredibly inspiring video of The United State of Women.
