Buildings Gervonta Davis Purchased To Renovate For The Baltimore Community, Caught On Fire Hours Later

Davis and his GTD Development are planning to develop the buildings on the block he grew up on.

The Christmas season is typically when people become more generous and giving. Days before the annual celebration, boxer Gervonta Davis made a commendable purchase. According to Essentially Sports, The WBA lightweight champion returned to his old neighborhood and bought approximately nine properties to renovate. Hours later, the property he just purchased was ablaze, but firefighters were able to prevent more serious damage.

Davis and his GTD Development plan to develop the buildings on the block he grew up on. The boxer plans to turn the units into affordable housing for the neighborhood.

Davis’ boxing coach, Calvin Ford, was on the scene with firefighters as they doused the buildings with water streams from the fire trucks. He captured a video of the scene as onlookers spoke about the incident.

People who wrote on the Instagram post were frustrated with the latest happening that seems to dim the spotlight of someone trying to do good for his community.

But, all was not lost in negativity for the Baltimore-bred pugilist this past week.

Essentially Sports also reported that Davis recently converted to Islam. WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack congratulated the boxer and posted a video clip of Davis’ conversion on Christmas Eve.

“Welcome to Islam, brother Gervontaa. Alhamdulillah.”

Davis is just the latest boxing champion who converted to the faith. The most famous boxing athlete may be Cassius Clay, who became Muhammad Ali. Brooklyn’s Mike Tyson also converted to Islam, and Bernard Hopkins is another one who left Christianity to practice the teaching of Islam.

Earlier this year, the boxer had to serve a 90-day prison sentence after an incident in 2020 in which he ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle with a pregnant woman inside. Prosecutors said the woman accused Davis of fleeing the scene without helping her, and he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. After violating the conditions of a home confinement agreement, Davis was ordered to complete the remainder of his 90-day sentence in jail.
