BE Modern Man: Meet ‘The Global Designer’ Sedgwick Cole

Name: Sedgwick L. Cole

Age: 34

Profession: Sr. Design Director

One Word That Describes You: Ambitious

What are some examples of how you turned struggle into success?

After college, I interned at Sean John, but I was living in Philly. It was a real struggle. I commuted every other day to New York. I was so broke sleeping on peoples couches, sometimes only having a few bucks for food. I always remained focused on my goals, knowing that one day it would pay off—and it did.

What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?

Integrity.

What are some immediate projects you are working on?

I’m currently working on two new clothing lines set to come out in spring 2017.

What is the best advice you ever received?

Always be willing learn new things. The minute you think you know everything, you stop growing.

What is some advice you have for other men who want to make a difference?

Always trust your gut instinct and do what works for you.

How do you prep for an important business meeting and/or event?

I always try to prep two to three days before a meeting. Always have a pre-meet with your team before the actual meeting. That way, you ensure everything goes smoothly and everyone is on the same page.

As a busy Modern Man, how do you unwind on vacation? Share a story about your best vacation.

I’ve traveled around the world, but my best vacation was last September for my birthday. My family and I vacationed in the Dominican Republic. It wasn’t about where I went for vacation; it was about who I was with. I travel a lot for work, so spending seven days alone with my wife, son, and daughter was heaven on earth.

If you could travel and stay anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Venice, Italy. I love the fashion, food, art, and culture.

Anything else you’d like to say?

Always stay humble.

It’s our normal to be extraordinary. Follow @blackenterprise and join the BE Modern Man conversation using #BEModernMan.
