White Nurse Caught On Camera Roughing Up Disabled Black Child

A mother in Michigan fights for her disabled child's justice after security footage showed her private nurse abusing her.

A mom in Michigan is seeking justice after footage from a home security camera showed her 8-year-old disabled child apparently being abused by a private nurse. The footage has now gone viral.

In March of 2023, Emma Plummer decided to check the surveillance footage after her daughter, Ny’anna, began having mood swings and another abnormal reactions. Ny’anna, who has Type 1 spinal muscular atrophy, requires the aid of a nurse due to her condition which limits her muscle movement.

While the nurse was supposed to assist with her everyday care at Plummer’s home in Monroe, Michigan, her reckless actions were actually harming the child, as shown in video released by The Shade Room.

The video showed the nurse aggressively handling the bed-ridden child, grabbing her by the head and neck and changing her diaper without the use of protective gloves. The nurse left the child unattended for 45 minutes and did not sterilize her catheter upon its exposure to unclean areas.

“Honestly, I wanted to beat her up,” Plummer told The Shade Room. “Ny’anna, she’s screaming, trying to get help, and [the nurse is like,] ‘What do you want? What do you want? You can do it. You’re fine. You’re fine.'”

However, Plummer went to get a second opinion on the recorded behavior from a private nurse practitioner, who detailed in a report that the child’s handling put her in “high risk” that could lead to paralysis.

“Lifting a child by the neck is extremely dangerous in any situation however, due to the risk of very weak neck muscles, this child is at high risk for dislocation of cervical vertebrae and potential paralysis,”

Despite having the video evidence, Plummer claims that authorities have not taken further action for the nurse’s alleged negligence and abuse toward the child. According to Plummer, the captain who can reopen the case seemed dismissive of her plight.

Regardless, Emma Plummer plans to hire an attorney and pursue legal options. The nurse has yet to be charged for any crime, and her nursing license is still active, according to The Shade Room.
