Oprah to Guest Lecture Stanford Students on A Meaningful Life

Can you imagine walking into class to find that Oprah Winfrey is your teacher for the day? Well, lucky students at Stanford University will soon know the feeling, as the school has tapped the one and only Queen of Talk to be their Rathbun Visiting Fellow. The billionaire mogul will speak to students, faculty and staff on Monday, April 20th.

She’s set to deliver “Harry’s Last Lecture on a Meaningful Life” in honor of the late SU Professor Harry Rathbun. From the 1930s to 1950s, Rathbun delivered his famous “last lecture” to close out each academic year.

Previous guest fellows have included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the Dalai Lama and Doonesbury cartoonist Gary Trudeau, according to NBC.

“The Office for Religious Life is truly delighted that Oprah Winfrey has agreed to be the 2015 Rathbun Visiting Fellow,” says Jane Shaw, Dean for Religious Life. “Oprah encourages so many to find the path to a meaningful life: She fits the remit for this speaker series perfectly, and we look forward to hearing her wisdom and experience.”

This isn’t Oprah’s first time delivering what we’re sure will be an epic address to Stanford students. In 2008, she gave the commencement speech, sharing her own career failures and emphasizing the importance of listening to “life’s whisper.”

Free tickets to the lecture will be available to students, faculty and staff through a lottery.
