Dallas Cowboys Players Doxxed On Twitter After Buffalo Bills Game

Fan interactions with players sometimes have reached a level that rises to disrespect over various minor infractions.

A pair of Dallas Cowboys players were doxxed or had identifying personal information about them revealed following the team’s disappointing performance against the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 17. According to CBS News, safeties Jayron Kearse and Juanyeh Thomas suffered the wrath of disgruntled and overzealous fans after Kearse made a post to his X social media account questioning why he was called for a personal foul during the game. Some fans responded that he played terribly, which prompted Thomas to defend his teammate from the criticism of “fans.” For his concern, Thomas had his phone number posted online, and Kearse had his home address leaked.

https://twitter.com/Jayronkearse8/status/1736750390224294328?t=IHPP9HlgfjI13OVWex6-Hw&s=19

Thomas spoke to the Dallas Morning News, saying that for him, a line had been crossed.

“I can take criticism,” said Thomas, who also told the paper that he did miss three tackles against the Bills. “But you do cross a line when you start doing dumb stuff like that, for real. It’s a line you can’t cross when you start sharing people’s addresses and numbers and stuff. At the end of the day, this is still a game. People got a life.”

After a practice session, Kearse also said that the violation, to him, signaled a threat, saying, “That’s where my kids lay their heads, it’s where my fiancé lays her head, I’m not the one to play with, just that simple, not the one to play with.”

An unnamed team official also informed the Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys have dealt with similar incidents for quite a while. Fan interactions with players sometimes have reached a level that rises to disrespect over minor infractions, like not helping fantasy football managers score enough points to win a league title or playoff game or costing fans money on their bets or parlays. Most players, including Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, have let fans know that they don’t care about anyone’s fantasy sports lives or bets. That’s not their reason for playing football; they want to help their NFL teams win, but the sideline comments from fans concern them. As Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis told Sports Illustrated, “It is getting crazy out there, it’s getting crazy,” Lewis said. “People are getting more aggressive than they have, and it’s not a good place to be right now.”

Former President Barack Obama Shares His Top 15 Favorite Books Of 2023

Obama promised his followers that he would soon follow up with a list of movies and music that he enjoyed this year as well.

Former President Barack Obama recently released his favorite media of the year. As promised, Obama began by posting a list of all his favorite books on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Dec. 22.

The year’s list includes a wide variety of literature genres, including nonfiction, thrillers, and fiction novels. On Dec. 22, he named 15 books that made his top lists. Although he promised that his rankings of other forms of media like movies and music were soon to come.

He wrote, “As I usually do during this time of year, I wanted to share my favorite books, movies, and music of 2023.”

“First up, here are the books I’ve enjoyed reading. If you’re looking for a new book over the holidays, give one of them a try. And if you can, shop at an independent bookstore or check them out at your local library,” Obama added before asking his followers to drop some recommendations in the comment section.

“What were some of your favorite books this year?”

Obama’s list included best-sellers, like The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory by Tim Alberta, and Lauren Groff’s The Vaster Wilds.

As reported in the past by The Hill, Obama only puts titles on his annual books, movies, and music list that he truly consumed and enjoyed over the year.

Obama said in an interview with comedian Hasan Minhaj in June, “People, they believe the books and the movies, but the playlists, they somehow think — and this is mostly coming from young people like you — somehow you all think you invented rock ‘n’ roll, you invented hip-hop.”

“So the fact that my lists are pretty incredible, people seem to think, ‘Wow, he must have had some 20-year-old intern who was figuring out, you know, this latest cut.’ No, man — it’s on my iPad right now.”

Obama admitted that he only takes suggestions in his music choices, as he enjoys getting recommendations from others on new songs and genres that he should listen to.

“So typically, at the end of the year, what happens is folks will be like, ‘Man, you need to listen to this. This is good,’” Obama explained.

Drama Envelops Texas Southern University Coaching Search

Texas Southern University’s hiring process has become a contentious affair.

Disagreements between a school’s administration and who they hire as a head coach are fairly common. Still, a report from Sports Illustrated indicates that those disagreements portend a greater rift between athletic departments and the trustee boards or regents of certain HBCU institutions.

Texas Southern University’s hiring process has become contentious due to its handling of former Alcorn State University head coach Fred McNair’s candidacy for their open head coaching position.

At a Dec. 14 meeting of the Southern University System Board of Supervisors, board member and attorney Tony Clayton addressed the matter of Southern University’s hiring process, saying, “I find that this process was flawed. I don’t think it’s indicative (of) the way we should operate at Southern University. This has nothing to do with coach Graves and/or his character…this administration hasn’t ceased to shock me with some of the actions that emanate from the head of this campus.”

He continued, “I think we, as (the) fiduciary, as the responsible people to this university, has to make sure that these taxpayers’ money is being met…No. It’s not about the coach, but it’s about the process… I’m not impressed with the way this administration handled this search. It leaves a lot to be desired.”

Regarding Texas Southern University, this sentiment is reflected in the push from TSU board members to hire McNair despite a minority of the board being bullish concerning the prospect of the university potentially hiring future Hall of Fame wide receiver and former Houston Texans player Andre Johnson. By most accounts, McNair, the elder brother of former Alcorn State standout and Houston Oiler Steve “Air” McNair, is an easy choice for the institution given his track record of compiling wins and TSU’s lengthy history of being a losing football program. However, Jerome Solomon, a long-time Texan insider for the Houston Chronicle, believes Johnson may mesh better at the university than most TSU board members.

In a November column for Houston’s newspaper, Solomon writes that though Clarence McKinney’s job is not difficult to fill, the position itself is one of the most difficult in all of college football. Solomon compares Johnson to another Hall of Fame talent who spent time at an HBCU and elevated the program to previously unseen heights, Deion Sanders. Solomon admits, however, that a more analogous example, given Johnson’s low-key temperament, would be the Tennessee State University head coach, Eddie George.

“As is the case with Eddie George, the former Oilers/Titans running back who coaches the other TSU, Tennessee State,” Solomon wrote, “Johnson could parlay his playing experience and reputation into building a strong coaching staff that would be otherwise difficult for TSU to assemble.”

The debate between those in favor of McNair among the board and a small group reportedly in favor of hiring Johnson has turned what likely should have been a formality into something more protracted. Sports Illustrated reported that a contract for McNair had all but been agreed to after its head coach search committee nominated McNair as its top choice. However, on Dec. 15, they failed to reach a consensus after planning a meeting to approve a four-year, $313,000 coaching deal with McNair. In addition to this, there was another special meeting called by the board of regents on Dec. 19 so that they could endorse the contract for McNair, but similar to the other vote; it failed because board members who preferred Johnson either disagreed with the choice or failed to show up for the vote.

Yet on National Signing Day, Dec. 20, the university did not have an official head coach, according to Terrance Harris, a reporter for the Houston Defender, Houston’s Black newspaper, who, on Dec. 19, spoke to TSU Board of Regents Vice-Chair James Benham. Benham would only tell Harris that the university has yet to agree on its next coach.

The waiting game for McNair, who is expected to be hired by now, continues alongside the drama.

Tech Companies Are Beginning To Go Back On Their 2020 DEI Promises

Sources named companies like Google and Meta as laying off DEI employees and downsizing diversity sectors.

Following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, big tech companies pledged themselves to commit to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in their companies. However, a recent investigation by CNBC found that major companies have been going back on their promises.

Big-name companies like Google and Meta devoted themselves to creating a more inclusive and safe space for Black employees through DEI policies after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company’s goal was “to build sustainable equity for Google’s Black+ community, and externally, to make our products and programs helpful in the moments that matter most to Black users.”

Companies, including Google, pledged to invest millions into improving diversity on their tech floors and supporting job positions geared toward upholding DEI in the workforce.

According to CNBC reports, these programs have begun to be forgotten and disbanded.

By the middle of this year, sources told CNBC that DEI-related job postings declined nearly 50% from last year. Even though tech companies are no longer looking for people to fill these positions, companies reportedly have begun to lay off DEI employees and downsize programs meant to develop safer environments for POC employees. They’ve reportedly “cut budgets for external DEI groups by as much as 90% in 2023.”

Google and Meta have fallen in line with the concerning trend.

An expert in the culture of equality, Melinda Epler, explained the sudden changes. She explained, “Whenever there is an economic downturn in tech, some of the first budgets that are cut are in DEI, but I don’t think we’ve seen such stark contrast as this year.”

“When George Floyd began to become the topic of conversations, companies and executives doubled down on their commitments, and here we are only a couple years later, and folks are looking for opportunities to cut those teams.”

The timing of the DEI cuts is especially concerning due to the rise in artificial intelligence in the tech industry. Many are worried that without someone to keep diversity in the conversation as companies develop more and more AI processes, it’ll cause even more issues in representation as it becomes more prominent. AnitaB.org’s CEO Brenda Wilkerson said that DEI should be even more important to companies like Google and Meta, given the emergence of AI.

“We’re in a big technology inflection point, and what happens is as AI begins to take off, and if organizations are less inclusive, the product is not reflective of the users,” Wilkerson said. The choice, say experts, to cut DEI-related jobs and programs could end up exacerbating the issues that are already present in Artificial Intelligence programs today.

Black Girl Environmentalist Builds More Inclusive Climate Movement

Black Girl Environmentalist is building a new generation of diverse climate activists through its platform.

In a bid to foster greater inclusivity within the climate action movement, Black Girl Environmentalist is playing its part. This social media account has evolved into a movement in its own right, advocating for diversity and recognition of activists in the climate movement.

Founded by Wawa Gatheru, the initiative behind this social media page was to acknowledge and honor individuals of color, with a specific focus on Black women, who were actively using their platforms to champion climate activism. As a socially engaged individual, Gatheru initially hesitated to identify as an environmentalist until she delved into how environmental issues impact Black Americans.

She then uncovered the numerous Black women who were organizers for climate justice, creating Black Girl Environmentalist to highlight their efforts and encourage a new, diverse generation to get involved in the action. Through its mission of “addressing the pathway and retention issue in the climate movement for Black girls, women, and gender-expansive people,” programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities have been created across the United States to spark interest for emerging activists to advocate for climate causes.

“The impacts are harrowing. I know that for a fact,” said Gatheru, as detailed by Yale Climate Connections. “And having that representation really did make it feel more accessible for me to get involved. Our movement is only viable if it is one that all people can see themselves represented in.”

Upholding the Black Women Best Framework in its approach, Black Girl Environmentalist prioritizes this demographic as a vital piece in enacting true change in the climate movement. Black communities are oftentimes the most vulnerable to environmental violence and racism, especially with new issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic as intertwined with health issues. The organization is committed to showing Black women and girls that environmental justice is not only part of social justice but also part of the upliftment of Black people nationwide and across the diaspora.

Affordable Health Care Act Gives Healthcare To 15 Million Americans

One possible reason for the marked increase in enrollment is the loss of Medicaid benefits for many Americans.

According to data from the Department of Health and Human Services, more Americans used the Affordable Care Act marketplace to obtain insurance this year than in the past.

ABC News reported that the data the Biden-Harris administration published indicates that over 15 million people have enrolled in health insurance plans beginning Jan. 1, 2024. This number represents a 33% increase in enrollment from last year, totaling approximately 11 million. HHS Secretary Xavier Beccara released a statement saying that the jump in enrollment is good news for Americans.

“Millions of Americans signing up for healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act is good news. It means more Americans have the peace of mind of knowing that going to the doctor won’t empty their bank account,” Becerra explained. “The Biden-Harris Administration will continue working to expand healthcare coverage and lower prescription drug costs, so taking care of your health is not a luxury.”

The release of the HHS’s numbers follows another update in June, which established that over the life of the ACA, which is now 10 years old, the rate of uninsured Americans in every state has seen a notable decrease. The HHS report attributes this to the policies enacted by the Biden-Harris administration.

“The ACA’s multiple programs have led to an historic expansion of health coverage, with an estimated 40 million people currently enrolled in coverage related to the law. Gains have accelerated since 2021, concurrent with efforts by the Biden‐Harris administration to expand coverage. These efforts include: enhanced subsidies for Marketplace coverage under the American Rescue Plan and later extended by the Inflation Reduction Act; robust outreach efforts to sign up eligible individuals for coverage; and ongoing support for state Medicaid expansions.”

ABC News postulates that another possible reason for the marked increase in enrollment is the loss of Medicaid benefits for many Americans. Indeed, as The Commonwealth Fund reported in August 2023, almost 4 million people lost Medicaid coverage after the government declared COVID-19 as a public health emergency was not renewed. They noted that though many who lost coverage were still eligible for the program, they lost coverage for technical reasons like not having a correct address on file, submitting an incomplete renewal application, or submitting a late application, among other things. According to its reporting, states that did not expand Medicaid coverage for their residents created a healthcare affordability problem for their citizens, despite the federal government covering 90% of the costs for states to expand the program.

Another factor in the increased enrollment of Americans into Affordable Health Care under the Biden-Harris administration is what happened to people’s insurance coverage under the Trump administration. According to a 2019 Gallup poll, 13.7% of American adults were without insurance. Though ABC News indicates that that figure is lower than what the ACA engendered, it came at the cost of the end of the cost-sharing reduction and a cut back on enrollment outreach while eliminating the penalty for non-enrollment that the ACA imposed. Donald Trump has indicated via his Truth Social platform that he intends to eliminate the ACA altogether and replace it with his own plan if he is elected as president.

As the Center for American Progress indicated in a Sept. 2020 article, Trump’s healthcare plan did none of the things that he promised it would. First, millions of Americans lost coverage between 2016 and 2019; the lawsuit he helped get to the Supreme Court, if successful, would eliminate consumer protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions and drive up the cost of healthcare in America. The Trump administration also facilitated the addition of work requirements to the Medicaid program, which did nothing but make coverage losses more common.

Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), noted, “More than 15.3 million people have signed up for Health Insurance Marketplace plans in states that use HealthCare.gov, an impressive 33% increase compared to this time last year.”

Brooks-LaSure added, “The Marketplace clearly meets an important need in Americans’ lives, making access to healthcare possible for adults and their children. The Affordable Care Act connects more people to preventive and life-saving care, helping more people and their families live the American dream. We look forward to continuing to get people enrolled ahead of the January 16 deadline.” The next update to the federal government’s numbers will come on Jan. 10, 2024, including state-specific plan selections.

Malik McIntyre

From Military Service To The Spotlight: Influencer Malik McIntyre Inspires As He Becomes The Face Of Global Estée Lauder Campaign

Set during New York Fashion Week, the Estée Lauder campaign follows the 'wake up and go' routine of McIntyre and two other content creators.

Twenty-six-year-old Chicago native, creative director, army veteran, and social media influencer Malik McIntyre is spreading his wings and making his grandiose entrance into the skincare world as one of the newest faces in the Estée Lauder x Highsnobiety campaign.

From designing fashions for artists like Dreezy, Latto, and Asian Doll to becoming TikTok’s favorite sensational storyteller and mental health advocate, McIntyre took an unusual path to success. McIntyre, who says he joined the military as a way out of Chicago, is no stranger to the public eye and uses his artistic expression.

The campaign dives into stapled Estée Lauder products. Set during New York Fashion Week, the viewers follow the “wake up and go” routine of three dynamic content creators: McIntyre, Remi Bader, and Dana Hasson. The focus combines the glitz and glam of fashion, makeup, and skincare with the city’s hustle and bustle, making the point that glam is not just part of the look. It’s an all-encompassing lifestyle.

BLACK ENTERPRISE spoke to McIntyre about leaving the military, becoming a full-time creator, and his latest campaign with Estée Lauder.

What was your deciding factor when you realized you wanted to make content creation your full-time job?

To be honest, I didn’t start looking at content creation or influencing full-time until recently, even when I was going viral and stuff, and I was getting brand deals. I was still thinking to myself like OK, this isn’t something I’m gonna do on the side for fun. All these opportunities kept coming out of the blue–brand deals, the trips, the campaigns. And I was like, this is like a job. This is like, this is a thing. Right? And so I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I got signed by an agency, and I was like, ‘Maybe I should start taking this a little bit more seriously.’ I think my mom hates it. She was like, I cannot believe that you literally make TikToks for a living. I say self-employed; she says unemployed.

What was your initial reaction when you learned about the campaign and that you would be in it?

it didn’t really sink in for me until I was on set, because when they sent the email, it was like, it didn’t say Estee Lauder campaign. It said it was a video content series. That’s what I saw. So, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what it was, honestly. I got there, and it was like a full production. There were so many cameras, and it was glam. I was like, ‘Whoa, this is an actual thing.’ You know, I didn’t realize how big it was until it came out because I had no idea what to expect.

How did it feel to incorporate your love for fashion and your passion for content creation in this campaign?

It was crazy; it just feels like I’m expressing myself every time I put something out. It just feels like it’s just me; it doesn’t really feel like work. Like even when I’m making the mental health content. It doesn’t feel like work. It feels like I’m helping people.

What is your favorite product from the Estée Lauder line?

My favorite product is the Revitalizing Supreme+ Moisturizer Youth Creme

What is your advice to people who don’t know what they want to be when they grow up?

My advice is sometimes you have to take unnecessary or uncomfortable steps to get to, you know, the thing that makes you happy. So I would definitely say realistically do what you got to do to get to that point. You know, if that means that you gotta go to work at a movie theater or Chick-fil-A or whatever. Sometimes, you have to do that to get to where you want to be– like working in the military and designing and making content like that was hard. Working 12-hour shifts and then coming home to sketch that was hard, but, like, it was something that I did because that was what I was passionate about. So you know sometimes you got to you really got to push yourself to get to that point. Like, it’s not easy. Like, none of it was easy.

Zaya Wade Shares The Drop Of Her Custom Palermos For Puma On Instagram

Zaya, 16, has been involved with the company as a brand ambassador for Puma.

Dwyane Wade’s daughter, Zaya, is making her mark as an ambassador for Puma by sharing her first shoe drop. She posted a photo on Dec. 14 of her wearing a gray dress, sparkly blue socks, and her new shoes.

The 16-year-old captioned the photo, “I’m so excited to share my custom Palermos with everyone.”

Zaya continued to express that she had a great time going through the creative design process.

” I had so much fun with the designing process and being able to incorporate music into them. Music has been such a vital part of my life and the SOS and Renaissance albums are two albums that have had a great impact on me, so I had to reflect on my take away from those albums. ‘Good days on my mind’ and ‘All up in your mind’ both speak to my feeling about 2023 and how I’ve grown as a person 🖤”

Zaya’s parents took to Instagram to support their kid. Former NBA shooting guard Dwyane Wade commented “proud papa” under the post. Gabrielle Union added, “love” as a reply to Wade’s comment.

Zaya has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. Zaya walked the runway for Miu Miu earlier this year in March, and Union and Wade were in attendance, showing their support.

Thomas Christos Kikis, a stylist who is close with Zaya and her family, shared some genuine words for her when she made her debut on the runway. Kikis wrote under an Instagram post, “Tears in my eyes as I watched @zayawade make her debut at @miumiu today. Thank you @dwyanewade for your endless trust in my vision. and thank you @zayawade for showing me what it means to believe in yourself,” the post read.

Simone Biles And Jonathan Owens ‘Unbothered’ By Criticism

Once Channing Crowder asked Owens how he 'pulled' Biles, his responses from that point on turned into phrases that seemed built to drum up controversy.

After Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens made an appearance on The Pivot podcast with former NFL players Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, much of the discussion centered on a two-minute and 30-second clip that many on social media described as another example of a man trying to humble a woman with whom he is in a relationship with. However, Biles and her beau are “unbothered,” according to E! News.

The pair matched on the dating app Raya in 2020, and as Biles herself has previously noted in other appearances about her relationship with Owens, the NFL defensive back didn’t know who she was. Owens said he didn’t really follow gymnastics that much before he met Biles, saying that it wasn’t until he looked at her Instagram profile that he really understood how big a deal she was, telling Clark and Crowder, “I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity.” Owens recalled. “The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind, I’m like, ‘Okay, she’s gotta be good.”

Once Crowder asked Owens how he “pulled” Biles, his responses from that point on turned into phrases that seemed built to drum up controversy. Owens said that the question was really about how Biles pulled him before stating that he believes that men are always the prize. Further assisting in the controversy was Owens’s insinuation that Biles eventually wore him down as he told his story about how he was initially afraid to commit to a relationship, but he eventually relented because Biles kept applying pressure. Though that may not be what Owens was aiming to do, many people in the comments section of “The Pivot” YouTube channel chimed in about how his comments signaled a red flag to them.

If the two have read any online discourse about them and their relationship, largely drawn from people’s reactions to a Super Bowl commercial-length clip, they have not taken any of it to heart. According to People Magazine, Owens posted to his Instagram account featuring photos of the couple on their wedding day and other, more relaxed shots, with the caption reading, “Unbothered Just know we locked in over here.”

Biles commented on the post with a pair of emojis, a fingers crossed emoji, and a puckered lips emoji, followed by the words “for life.” This indicates that Biles also will not let the words, ideas, or opinions of strangers online affect the relationship that she enjoys with her husband.

Pornhub ‘Deeply Regrets’ Profiting From Sex Trafficking, Will Pay $1.8M Toward Federal Charges

The charges against the streaming giant will remain in effect until the appointment of an independent monitor for a period of three years.

Adult content giant Pornhub has admitted to profiting from sex trafficking and will pay more than $1.8 million to resolve federal charges.

On Dec. 21, Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo Holdings, reached an agreement to resolve a federal charge of engaging in unlawful monetary transactions involving sex trafficking proceeds, Fortune reports. As part of the deal, the Montreal-based company will pay more than $1.8 million to the U.S. government, along with separate payments to the women who were victims of sex trafficking by having the videos posted without their consent.

The charges against the streaming giant will remain in effect for three years until the appointment of an independent monitor.

“It is our hope that this resolution, which includes certain agreed payments to the women whose images were posted on the company’s platforms and an independent monitorship, brings some measure of closure to those negatively affected,” Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York said.

Prosecutors say Pornhub “knowingly enriched itself by turning a blind eye” to the complaints from victims who told the site the videos were posted without their consent. The charges stem from Aylo hosting videos and accepting payments from a now-defunct film production company, GirlsDoPorn.

Operators of that former production company were convicted of sex trafficking charges, including coercing young women into engaging in sexual acts on camera that were then posted on Pornhub and other adult sites without their consent. Aylo Holdings is accused of accepting more than $100,000 between 2017 and 2020 that the company either knew or should have known came from GirlsDoPorn sex trafficking operations.

Additionally, Aylo, which makes its money through licensing agreements, advertisements, and subscriptions, reportedly accepted roughly $764,000 in payments from advertisers attributable to GirlsDoPorn from 2017 to 2020. Now Aylo says it “deeply regrets” hosting content from GirlsDoPorn on its free and paid adult websites.
