Woman’s History Month: 10 Black Women Making Moves Right Now


Women’s History Month is in full effect! In addition to celebrating iconic historymakers, it’s only right to pay tribute to the women who are making major moves, creating history in their own right and respective industries. From the women making things happen on higher levels and with great impact to those hosting conferences that draw tens of thousands of people around the world to the women starting medical schools in underprivileged areas.

Here’s a list of 10 Black women out here making major moves and doing so unapologetically!

Lora D. Williams is a registered nurse with an innovative edge. In November 2020, Lora and her husband, Cedric, launched the Williams Career School of Excellence (W.C.S.E.) in San Marcos, Texas. W.C.S.E. is dedicated to the advancement of underprivileged individuals and minorities in Hays County and surrounding areas. It is just the beginning of a transformative program that will be the catalyst in making a great impact within Central Texas. In Williams’s words, “What we are doing here is more than equipping our students with skills that will empower them to establish economic stability. What we are doing will have a generational impact!”

4. Dr. Nakita Nicci

From reality television to CEO, the former Bravo television star, Dr. Nakita Nicci, is the owner of High Society Management (HSM). HSM provides business filing services required for a variety of business needs, such as forming a corporation or limited liability company (L.L.C.), filing a DBA/Fictitious Business Name, trademark search and registration services, and maintaining your existing business in corporate compliance in all 50 states. “The 2020 pandemic taught many business owners that their lack of compliance prevented them from qualifying for assistance that could have saved their companies. “I wanted to create a company to ensure that does not happen ever again,” said Nicci.

5. Tiara M. Tucker

Tucker is a trailblazing Dallas-based empowerment connector on a mission to equip, empower, support, and connect professional women in business along their journeys of dream and goal realization. As a wearer of many “tiaras,” she is a PR strategist, international speaker, event creator/host, panel moderator, live show producer, social justice activist, mental health advocate, and creator of empowerment novelties. Tucker is the visionary founder and president of Speak That! Movement Inc., her 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is actively making noteworthy strides in the women empowerment, mental health, and social justice space. Additionally, she is the founder and CEO of Tiara PR Network L.L.C., her boutique PR, communications, events, and coaching firm. She also has almost two decades of experience with a Fortune 50 company where she specializes in public affairs, communications, executive/leadership support, corporate responsibility, event planning, and employee/community engagement.

6. Pongee Barnes

Barnes is a seasoned real estate investor from Chicago, a serial entrepreneur, and the founder of Little Owners, a company dedicated to educating kids on the various paths to career and entrepreneurial success. Her book series, co-written with her children, breaks down the ins and outs of various careers.

7. Taquoya Porter

Porter has been living for Jesus since she was 7. For 16 years, she has been the youth pastor at Turning Point Family Worship Center where she coordinates programming and is responsible for the spiritual well-being of around 150+ youth. She also coordinates TM Youth Camp and TM Children’s Camp and overseas mission work. She founded the PRESS (Prayer Reaches Every Single Situation) Movement, which has been used to establish PRESS clubs throughout the country and has impacted 20,000 people. Porter is blessed to be a mother of three and a wife of nearly 20 years. She holds a B.S. in Marketing with a minor in Spanish.

8. Sylvia High

High, founder of Aiming High Inc., is an author, master coach, transformational trainer, and a development strategist with nearly 30 years of success delivering content and context to help individuals and organizations, such as Squarespace and Uber, transform and create next-level goals. She was a featured presenter at BET Networks’ Leading Women Defined Conference, the Dream Project Symposium, Dr. Lucille Farrell-Scott’s POWER of NOW Conference, and CISCO’s Women of Impact and Comcast Coaches Camp. High is making moves as the curator of the groundbreaking I AM WOMAN Conference and launched a worldwide conversation of Elevated Living in Challenging Times. Through her master coaching program, thousands of individuals propelled themselves into alignment with their heart’s vision.

9. McKenya Dilworth

Dilworth is a renaissance woman with many interests. She is making history by keeping the legacy of her mother’s theatre, The Morning Bishop Theatre Playhouse Inc., and commitment to the arts in Gary, Indiana, through the creation of Bishopboxes, a virtual STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) Out of School Time Program designed to engage children and youth in hands-on activities with virtual instruction. Dilworth brought the first-ever TEDX event to the city of Gary (that was not associated with a school or university) in 2020 and continues to make her name synonymous with arts, service, community engagement, and making moves. Environmentally conscious, she co-owns with her partner, Jeffrey Smith, J & M Excursions, an urban eco-tourist kayak and canoe rental and environmental tour company located on the waterways in and around Northwest Indiana.

10. Armani Caesar

Caesar is the first lady of Griselda Records and an overall entrepreneur who focuses on everything music, business, and philanthropy; and making major moves, for real. Aside from being a successful female emcee who dominated 2020, she has been helping women leap into entrepreneurship amid COVID-19 along with her philanthropy efforts. She launched her 7-day manual to teach entrepreneurs how to launch start-up businesses in just seven days, the same way she did. Armani’s 7-day manual teaches women how to open up their own businesses in seven days, how to apply for their own L.L.C., and more. Caesar is also the owner of her own successful boutique, Armani’s Closet. Armani’s Closet first appeared on Fashion Bomb Daily but made its worldwide debut with BET when popular female rapper Megan Thee Stallion wore a dress from the Black-owned fashion brand. BET named Armani’s Closet one of the Black fashion businesses to watch in 2020. Since appearing on BET, with a following of over 100K, Armani’s Closet has been spotted on celebrities such as Trina, The Clermont Twins, Toyko Stylez, Reginae Carter, and others.
