University of Florida Withdraws Offer From High School QB Who Posted Video Mouthing N-Word

A top high school football quarterback has lost his college athletic scholarship after he was seen in a video mimicking the words from a hip-hop song that included the n-word in the lyrics.

According to 3 Wear TV, high school quarterback Marcus Stokes, who several colleges have recruited, had a scholarship offer rescinded after a video of him saying, “Welcome back, n***a” in a now-deleted two-second video that was posted on social media. The offer was extended to him by the University of Florida.

A Twitter user captured a screenshot of the post.

The university pulled the sports scholarship offer after the video circulated on social media. He had been ranked No. 14 in the nation by 24/7 Sports. He is currently attending Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Stokes posted a statement offering an apology and regret for clearly repeating the lyrics and filming it for all to see. “I was in my car listening to rap music, rapping along to the words and posted a video of it on social media. I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say.”

“It was hurtful and offensive to many people, and I regret that.”

“I fully accept the consequences for my actions, and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football.”

“My intention was never to hurt anybody and I recognize that even when going along with a song, my words still carry a lot of weight,” Stokes continued in his statement.

“I will strive to be better and to become the best version of myself both on and off the field. I know that learning from my mistakes is a first important step.”

TMZ Sports reported that several schools offered scholarships to Stokes, including Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech.

New York Woman Fatally Stabs 11-Month-Old Son And 3-Year-Old Son

New York Woman Fatally Stabs 11-Month-Old Son And 3-Year-Old Son

A New York woman stabbed her two children to death in the Bronx on Nov. 26, according to NBC News.

Dimone Fleming, 24, allegedly stabbed her 3-year-old son Deshawn Fleming and her 11-month-old son, Octavius Canada, at the apartment in the homeless shelter they were staying in located 246 Echo Place.

Deputy Chief Louis De Ceglie of Patrol Borough Bronx said that both boys died after suffering from wounds to their necks and torsos. De Ceglie said that officers arrived on the scene in response to a call about a “female acting erratic, but non-violent, with no weapons” at around 7:20 p.m. 911 operators were told that the woman, later identified as Fleming, was trying to set things on fire in the kitchen. The police arrived to find Fleming nude and “acting irrational.”

Fleming was taken to the St. Barnabas Hospital around 7:50 p.m. Another 911 call came through minutes later about “two unresponsive babies not breathing at the same location.”

The little boys’ father found the children in the bathtub hidden underneath a pile of clothes after the police left with Fleming. The father and Fleming had a fight the night before and he slept in his vehicle. He said he was alerted by a friend that 911 had been called about Fleming and returned to the apartment and found his babies in the bathtub.

One of Fleming’s neighbors, Shannon Holyfield, said she heard the babies’ father screaming.

“He was screaming hysterically,” she said. “He was screaming, ‘Help me!’ And I came and opened my door, and I see him coming down the hall with the two boys in his arms.

“They were dead. They were dead. There was blood everywhere, it covered them.”

Francis Pimentel was visiting his mother who lives across the street and said he saw Fleming acting erratically outside the building earlier as he waited for a taxicab.

“She was walking and stopping and turning around and walking and stopping with both hands on the back of her head saying, ‘What I did?! What I did?!’ I went up to her and said, ‘Miss, are you OK?’ and she stopped and looked at me, her face was crazy, and then just kept walking back and forth stopping and saying, ‘What I did?! What I did?!’”

A neighbor who said she lived directly below the couple said that the boys’ father was nice but that Fleming seemed disturbed.

“He’s very polite. He always holds the door for me and my son. He has a job. I don’t know what he does, but I know he works. She just looked like she was never in the mood. The mother, she just always looked like she was out of it. She just looked like she was always sad.”

Fleming is currently in custody while the deaths are being investigated.

Meet The Jacksons: A Family Of Real-Life Black Cowboys

Meet The Jacksons: A Family Of Real-Life Black Cowboys

The Jackson family in Upper Marlboro, Maryland is honoring the country’s legacy of Black cowboys. The family sat down with Good Morning America to discuss their rodeo lifestyle.

Corey Jackson and Robyn Jackson met at the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, a rodeo known for celebrating Black cowboys and cowgirls. Mr. Jackson always dreamed of becoming a cowboy, and Mrs. Jackson came from a family of horse trainers. Mr. Jackson said that he first became interested in being a cowboy from watching old westerns with his grandfather.

“Just from that little, young age, you know, seeing just the mystique of the cowboy you know, riding the Western Range, what have you, I just fell in love with it.”

The couple went on to have five children, 15-year-old Robert Jackson, 14-year-old Nic Jackson, 9-year-old Dylan Jackson, and 12-year-old twins Reagan Jackson and Ryan Jackson. The family trains on land bought and developed by Mrs. Jackson’s father, Robert Harper. Four of their children compete in rodeos, and the couple’s son, Nic won the 2020 Junior World Bull Riding Championships when he was just 13. He was the first champion from the Northeast.

The Jacksons are homeschooled and they practice daily for rodeo competitions. Mr. Jackson said that the cowboy lifestyle is a passion and the family is always thinking about the rodeo. Robert has cerebral palsy and doesn’t compete but is still able to ride and bond with the horses.

“It’s a passion, you know, it’s a lifestyle. It’s just not something that we do. It goes … so far deep, deeper than just the competition,” he said. “So when we’re not rodeoing, we’re talking about rodeo, we’re watching rodeo … we’re watching videos of the kids’ performances.”

Mrs. Jackson said that she is sometimes moved when she thinks of how her father’s choices provided for her future family.

“It almost brings tears to my eyes because I don’t think we ever, you know, we just never imagined. You don’t know what your future holds,” she said.

“I don’t know that I had ever planned to have little cowboys and cowgirls but that is what has happened.”

And I’m so thankful because all the decisions that my dad made early on, we had no idea how that was going to impact our lives today.”

New York Woman Meets Donor’s Family Following 1st HIV-Positive To HIV-Positive Heart Transplant

New York Woman Meets Donor’s Family Following 1st HIV-Positive To HIV-Positive Heart Transplant

A New York woman met the family of her heart donor following the first HIV-positive to HIV-positive heart transplant. Miriam Nieves, 62, met the family of the late Brittany Newton on Nov. 22 in the Bronx.

Nieves is HIV-positive and was suffering from heart and kidney failure as a patient at the Montefiore Medical Center when she had two organ transplants after being matched with Newton in April. Newton was just 30 when she died of a brain aneurysm.

Newton’s sister, Breanne Newton, told Good Morning America that it was a blessing to meet Nieves and described her as “sweet.” She also said Nieves reminded her of her late sister.

“It’s a blessing to know that my sister’s heart is going to be taken care of by her because she’s so sweet. She kind of reminds me a little bit about my sister because she said that she likes to just get out and go and do things and that’s how Brittany was,” she said.

“Brittany never sat still. She was always, you know, doing something. And just to know that they kind of resemble each other a little bit brings a little more joy to my life.”

Breanne added that more people should become organ donors and noted that seeing her sister’s organ recipient brought her closure.

“I think that there should be more donors giving back,” she said. “It’s OK to give an organ to save someone else’s life. This brought more closure to me knowing that my sister still lives on through her and maybe someone else as well but just to know that her organs are still here and working and functioning good, it just brings so much joy to me.”

Nieves said that she was unable to walk or enjoy her family prior to the transplant and spent much of the time laying in her bed.

“That’s not who I am,” she said. “I’m usually the one that puts the band together so that we could eat together. I’m constantly pulling everybody to get together. And I was only existing, I really wasn’t living.”

Nieves went on to say that she now considers Newton’s family her own, and the feeling is mutual.

“When I talked to Breanne, I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to meet you’ and when they walked in to the room, and they stood up, I just wanted to embrace them and the feeling was overwhelmingly good,” said Nieves.

“It was a beautiful, warm, breathtaking feeling in my heart. I felt the connection. I knew the connection was there. Words can’t describe how I feel even right now.”

Dr. Omar Saeed is the cardiologist who performed the surgery and noted the successful transplant will help future HIV-positive patients.

“It’s Miriam’s courage and bravery and Brittany and her family’s incredible act of kindness and compassion, I think, that is really central to all of this. We can learn from that, we can all learn from it and at that core, we can use science to expand these boundaries,” said Saeed. “We hope that this case demonstrates a doorway into the incredible power that donors with HIV have of saving other people’s lives, including donating their heart.”

Nieves wants everyone who is HIV-positive to know that “it’s not the end of the world.” She also hopes that they become organ donors. “If you’re HIV positive, please become a donor. You could save another HIV-positive person.”

Newton’s mother, Bridgette Newton, said she was grateful that a piece of her child was still alive.

“My child is still walking around,” she said. “And for that, I will forever be grateful.”

The Brother Of Wendy Williams Says She’s Still Surrounded By Bad Influences

The Brother Of Wendy Williams Says She’s Still Surrounded By Bad Influences

The brother of Wendy Williams believes that his sister is still surrounded by bad influences following her departure from rehab. Tommy Williams told The Sun that his sister has been out of touch with her family since leaving rehab in October.

According to the outlet, the 58-year-old former host of The Wendy Williams Show is now surrounded by “evil-doers.”

“I have no belief that Wendy is doing as well as she was doing when she was down here, in Florida. I know there are evil-doers lurking about.”

“With her absence comes questions and scrutiny,” said Williams. “How is she living? What is she doing and what the hell is she up to? I was right there with her during the dark times many moons ago, and I think about this constantly – she’s going back to times before she was married. She’s going backward,” he said.

“As we grow, we grow wiser – we go on with life,” the 54-year-old continued. “Ensure the bag for yourself. You can’t go back. What are you going to do, go back and do the things you have already done?”

Williams’ little brother also questioned the people his sister was spending her time with, including partying with “18 or 25-year-olds.”

“You’re going to find some 18 or 25-year-olds to hang out with? I saw photos of her a little while back at some club. What is she doing?”

Another family member allegedly told the outlet that Williams hasn’t spoken to her son since she left the rehab in Malibu. Williams reportedly entered the facility in September for alcohol and substance abuse issues.

Tommy Williams added that he hopes he gets the opportunity to help his older sibling.

“To be honest, I want to talk to Wendy and talk her off the ledge of whatever she is doing,” he said. “I’m simple and I speak the truth. I’m hoping in my truthfulness on what she’s doing, maybe she’ll come back out, maybe she’ll poke her head out.”

Resurfaced Clip Shows Herschel Walker Blaming Wife’s Genes For Son Being An ‘Ugly’ Baby

Resurfaced Clip Shows Herschel Walker Blaming Wife’s Genes For Son Being An ‘Ugly’ Baby

A clip of Herschel Walker talking about his son being an ugly baby due to his wife’s bad genes has resurfaced on social media. The Twitter account PatriotTakes posted the video on Nov. 24.

Walker also said his son was extremely book smart but “dumb as a brick” when it came to street smarts in the resurfaced video. He also compared his son to an alien from the X-Files and said the cause must have been his ex-wife’s “awful” genes. Walker was married to Cindy DeAngelis Grossman.

The Republican Senate candidate was talking about his now-23-year-old sonChristian Walker when he was a newborn. The Senate candidate made the remarks while addressing civilian staff members and military personnel at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the state of Washington back in 2019.

“When I delivered him, he had this long old head,” he said. “No, seriously. He looked like an alien. I told my wife, ‘Have your parents got some awful genes and stuff?'”

The Heisman Trophy winner went on to say another baby at the hospital was beautiful compared to his “alien” looking child.

“I’m looking at Christian, and I’m looking at her, and I go, wow, I’m gonna slide her over a little and stuff because everybody’s gonna come to that window and go ‘Wow, that’s a beautiful little girl’ and then they’re gonna look at Christian Walker—’Woah, X-Files, like he’s an alien,” said Walker.

PartiotFront captioned the post, “Speaking to soldiers, Herschel Walker described his “dumb as a brick”-streetwise son, Christian, as an ‘ugly’ baby with a ‘long head’ that ‘looked like an alien’ from the ‘x-files,’ and blamed his wife’s ‘awful genes.’ Walker: ‘Little kids are ugly when they’re …born at first.’

Walker is currently awaiting a runoff election in Georgia on Dec. 6 against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D).

Modern CPAs Need To Learn Strategy

Modern CPAs Need To Learn Strategy

Industries worldwide have automated and digitized, while others are increasingly moving in that direction. This, of course, has radically changed the accounting world, especially with so many of the services we used to rely on CPAs for now being automated and accessible to everyday people. For example, it’s far easier in the digital age to do taxes on your own with services like TurboTax.

The field is organically evolving for CPAs, and if you want to continue to build your business, you need to grow and expand, too. The CPA Exam is changing to reflect the field’s changing needs, and industry trends show that strategy is where accountants’ knowledge is best utilized today. To learn more, check out this whitepaper on how The CPA of the Future Is a Strategic Advisor

An expert guide on how new and existing CPAs adapting to the changing landscape can approach the future of accounting. It includes a summary of the major 2021 CPA Exam Changes. In addition, it goes in-depth on the four sections of focus — Auditing and Attestation, Business Environment and Concepts, Financial Accounting and Reporting, and Regulation.

The whitepaper features relevant breakdowns of how the industry’s focuses and needs are shifting. For example, one table breaks down typical CPA activities based on how automatable they are. More automatable services — i.e., general accounting operations, cash disbursement, and revenue management — stand in contrast to those categorized as “difficult to automate,” like business development, external relations, and risk management.

By looking closely at these metrics and the shifting needs and values placed on CPAs, working professionals can learn a lot to inform future operations. In addition to metrics, the paper is rich with straightforward insights and breakdowns, like this quote that reads, “Instead of being mired in numbers, CPAs are now expected — and will increasingly be expected — to have a broader strategic vision offering high-level advice and critical thinking relevant to today’s economy.”

This whitepaper available to download comes from Oracle NetSuite, which is rated 4.1 stars out of 5 on Gartner, and 4 stars out of 5 on Software Advice. So you can trust that its advice on topics like data adeptness, strategic thinking, and partnering with technology comes from well-educated sources.

Shanquella Robinson’s Mother Credits Social Media For Authorities Investigating Daughter’s Death

Shanquella Robinson’s Mother Credits Social Media For Authorities Investigating Daughter’s Death

The mother of Shanquella Robinson is crediting Black social media users for getting the authorities to investigate her daughter’s death in Mexico on Oct. 29. Robinson died while on vacation in San Jose del Cabo with a group of friends.

Salamondra Robinson said she received a frantic phone call from a member of the group advising her that her daughter died from alcohol poisoning. However, she later learned that the 25-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina resident died from a cracked spine and dislocated neck. A cell phone video of a woman beating Robinson while she was naked was widely shared by Black blogs and social media users. The outrage eventually prompted the FBI to open an investigation in November.

A woman later identified as Daejhanae Jackson is seen on the video hitting a defenseless and naked Robinson inside the villa where the group was staying. One man on the video is heard saying, “Quella, can you at least fight back?” The group later called for medical attention but declined the doctor’s advice to have Robinson hospitalized. After more than an hour, Robinson had a seizure and an ambulance was called as the doctor performed CPR. Robinson was declared dead at 5:57 p.m.

The video went viral on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram after initially being reported by local news outlets in Charlotte. People were appalled by the violent nature of the beating as well as Robinson’s friends callously recording the attack.

New York Times best-selling author Luvvie Ajayi shared the post on Twitter with a caption calling out Robinson’s so-called friends.

“This Shanquella Robinson story is devastating for so many reasons. That woman should still be alive. I hope every single one of those ‘friends’ faces consequences. Including the person who filmed the video.”

Robinson’s mother told NBC News that without the social media attention, the authorities would have let her daughter’s case go cold.

“It feels really good to see the help coming in,” said Robinson. “I never thought she wouldn’t get justice because we were going to try to go all the way. But, I appreciate everything that everybody’s done, however you’ve played a part in it.”

Mexican authorities issued an arrest warrant for a person they referred to as the “direct aggressor” and “perpetrator” in Robinson’s death. They have also requested that the United States extradite the accused to Mexico.
