Family Erroneously Purchases $10K in Disney+ Gift Cards Thinking They Were For Theme Parks

Disney was able to "turn the $10,000 of Disney streaming gift cards into $10,000 of Disney Parks gift cards"

Branding may be great for the company when you are a conglomerate and have various brands and properties under your umbrella.

Still, it could also lead to misunderstandings.

According to People, two parents purchased $10,000 worth of what they thought were Disney gift cards for the company’s famed theme park  so their family could enjoy a nice holiday vacation around Christmas. But due to the very successful branding tools of the Mickey Mouse company, they erroneously bought $10,000 worth of Disney+ gift cards, for Disney’s streaming services.

Yikes!

TikTok user Andie Coston (@aofthecoast) recorded a message with the mistake her parents made and inquired to see if any of the platform’s users could help rectify the situation so they could get that much-needed getaway.

She wrote that her family had planned a trip three years ago util the coronavirus pandemic, the trip had been postponed. Now, they were ready to embark on the trip.

“We finally planned it for this Christmas. All 16 of my family members were going. To save some money, my parents bought 10k of Disney gift cards to purchase our tickets and restaurant reservations. I went home this weekend, and they were having problems loading the gift cards correctly and purchasing the tickets.”

Coston then panned the camera toward the $10,000 worth of gift cards sporting the Disney+ logo, the streaming service, not the the theme park.

“We leave in 6 days, and the parks are selling out of tickets because it’s Christmas. My mom is distraught, Dad frustrated, and the kids worried we won’t get into Disney.”

@aofthecoast Do I have a story for you! PLEASE HELP! Note that the purchaser is not familiar with Disney Plus and did not know the difference! Honest mistake. It is not about the funding of the trip. It is about finding someone who can help us transfer the money into the correct gift card so we can make it to Disney! @Disney Parks @Disney+ @Disney #ohno #fail #disney #disneyworld #disneyplus #disneyfail #help ♬ Oh No – Kreepa

But the power of social media prevailed for the worried family!

Less than 24 hours after the original post was placed on the platform, Disney came to the rescue, contacted the family and was able to “turn the $10,000 of Disney streaming gift cards into $10,000 of Disney Parks gift cards.”

Coston was very grateful and spoke to People, relieved that they wouldn’t have to subject themselves to trying to watch all those hours of Disney+ for the rest of their lives.

“I am so glad we were able to get it resolved, especially for my parent’s sake. It was also good to hear that my parents are not the only ones who have experienced this. I received many messages and comments from people telling me that they or someone they know have had similar experiences. I hope that this story makes more people aware of the card difference so no one else experiences this.”
