Trump Says Harris Vice Presidency Is ‘No Way For A Woman’ To Become President

President Donald Trump blasted the idea of a Vice President Kamala Harris, saying it would be “no way for a woman” to become the first female president.

“That’s no way for a woman to become the first president, that’s for sure,” Trump said during a campaign rally in Wisconsin, according to Politico. “And if a woman is going to become the first president of the United States, it can’t be her. That would rip our country apart.

“This is not what people want, as then she comes in through the backdoor. This would not be what people want, especially because it’s her.”

Trump seemed to be talking about the possibility of Harris becoming the president after succeeding Joe Biden. Trump has made attacking Harris a major part of his re-election campaign, repeatedly labeling former Attorney General Harris as a California liberal and among the most far-left candidates in the Senate.

The president has also claimed Biden and Harris are supporters of the defund the police movement and have ignored the looting and rioters amid anti-racist protests that have ballooned over the summer. However, both Biden and Harris, a former prosecutor, have made statements in support of law enforcement.

Biden said he supports redirecting some police funding to address mental health or to change the prison system, something even those in law enforcement have supported.

However, these haven’t stopped Trump’s attacks. During his Wisconsin rally Thursday, Trump called Harris a “vicious” candidate, referring to her clashes with Biden during the Democratic primary debates where Harris went after Biden on his support of the 1994 crime bill and his oppositions to busing programs.

Trump said Harris was the one “who treated sleepy Joe the worst,” using one of his many nicknames for Biden. “I said brilliantly he will never pick her. Because she was too terrible to him,” Trump said. “But she picked him and hopefully that’s going to be history. It’s not going to matter.”

Harris for the most part has chosen to ignore Trump and his attacks. She spent the week touring wildfire damage in California and in Philadelphia talking with Black business owners and greeting supporters outside of a hair salon.

Obama Announces New Memoir ‘A Promised Land,’ Covering Presidency

Barack Obama has announced that his highly anticipated memoir, A Promised Land, will be released later this fall and will go in-depth about the different issues and problems the former president encountered during his time at the White House.

According to the book’s website, the anticipated memoir scheduled for release Nov. 17 “will cover his “improbable odyssey from a young man searching for his identity to the leader of the free world” and “landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency.”

Obama tweeted the news earlier this week celebrating the milestone. “There’s no feeling like finishing a book, and I’m proud of this one,” he wrote. “In A Promised Land, I try to provide an honest accounting of my presidency, the forces we grapple with as a nation, and how we can heal our divisions and make democracy work for everybody.”

The new memoir will go into his presidency including selecting members of his cabinet to his thoughts on America’s strained relationship with Vladimir Putin.

“Obama is candid about the balancing act of running for office as a Black American, bearing the expectations of a generation buoyed by messages of ‘hope and change,’ and meeting the moral challenges of high-stakes decision-making,” the description reads according to USA Today.

“He is frank about the forces that opposed him at home and abroad, open about how living in the White House affected his wife and daughters, and unafraid to reveal self-doubt and disappointment. Yet he never wavers from his belief that inside the great, ongoing American experiment, progress is always possible.”

There’s no feeling like finishing a book, and I’m proud of this one. I’ve spent the last few years reflecting on my presidency, and in A Promised Land I’ve tried to provide an honest accounting of my presidential campaign and my time in office: the key events and people who shaped it, my take on what I got right and the mistakes I made, and the political, economic, and cultural forces that my team and I had to confront then—and that as a nation we are grappling with still. In the book, I’ve also tried to give readers a sense of the personal journey that Michelle and I went through during those years, with all the incredible highs and lows. And finally, at a time when America is going through such enormous upheaval, the book offers some of my broader thoughts on how we can heal the divisions in our country going forward and make our democracy work for everybody—a task that won’t depend on any single president, but on all of us as engaged citizens. Along with being a fun and informative read, I hope more than anything that the book inspires young people across the country—and around the globe—to take up the baton, lift up their voices, and play their part in remaking the world for the better.

This Black Woman Entrepreneur Is Teaching Black Creatives The Importance Of Trademarking Their Brands

Black entrepreneurs face many unique challenges when developing and maintaining their businesses. They are also often at risk for trademark theft. Earlier this year, Shanae Jones, owner of Ivy’s Teas, found herself in a situation where she had to take legal action to protect her name and she alleges that a Colorado-based shop used her #TrapTea branding. Now, she is helping other Black women entrepreneurs protect their brands with her newly established trademark fund.

“After an experience with someone using my trademark to promote their business, I, for the first time, felt that comfort you get when the law is on your side. Knowing that I have legal protection and an attorney on my side to make sure no one can change what my business stands for is very comforting because overnight one bad move, one viral tweet, and everything you’ve built can be canceled,” explained Jones in an email interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE.

“It took a long time to make enough money to spend on a trademark, so the only thing I wish I had done differently was possibly trademark sooner,” says Jones. “I want others to see my story, see that I’m not sweating this issue, and follow in my footsteps. What would’ve been a tragedy for others who don’t have protected brands, is actually an opportunity for me to do some good for another Black woman entrepreneur with The Black Woman Trademark Fund.”

Jones teamed up with Buy from a Black Woman, a nonprofit organization that invests in Black woman-owned businesses, to help entrepreneurs fund their trademark applications starting in October.

“The Black Woman Trademark Fund is my way of giving back to Buy from a Black Woman, a community of Black Woman entrepreneurs,” said Jones. “With the fund, I have an opportunity to give another Black woman entrepreneur/creative the comfort I have. Hopefully, [other entrepreneurs] will never need it, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in business—it’s that you almost never know what to expect.”

“It’s very challenging to run your own business. And the truth is that most of us don’t make much money,” she added. “When you add in other factors that may cause socioeconomic disadvantages, like being Black or being a woman, we oftentimes make even less. Trademarking your business name, logo, or tagline is extremely expensive.”

Members Of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Are Donating $19.08 To The Biden-Harris Campaign

Ever since it was announced that Kamala Harris would be Joe Biden’s running mate for vice president ahead of the November presidential election, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. have been rallying behind the senator who joined the organization during her time at Howard University as an undergraduate. Now, members have been actively donating $19.08 to the Biden-Harris campaign.

The donations started earlier when the California senator was campaigning to be the Democratic presidential nominee and then dropped out, later joining the Biden campaign as his running mate. Since that announcement, members have continued to send donations with the exact number amount that represents the year the sorority was founded on Howard University’s campus.

“I’ve never seen people give in such a specific increment ever before,” said Clayton Cox, finance director for the Democratic National Committee to Roll Call. “The week after she was announced, I was getting one every 15 minutes,” says Cox. “It was that frequent.” Cox went on to say that the donations from all Divine Nine Greek organizations have been growing by the day.

“I still get notifications about $19.08 donations,” he added. “Every day, several times a day.”

On the nineteenth day of the eighth month, Senator Kamala Harris made “herstory” when she accepted the nomination as the Vice Presidential Candidate for a major political party. Americans, including little Black and Brown girls, watched with amazement, pride and a renewed sense of hope. We congratulate Senator Harris and wish her the best on this historic journey. This is, indeed, a proud moment for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Divine 9. It is a proud moment for women all over this nation and particularly for Black women. It is a proud moment for any citizen of this country who believes in the possibilities that America represents regardless of race, color or creed, sex, nationality or political party. While Alpha Kappa Alpha does not endorse political candidates, we cannot overlook or understate the significance of this historical moment for our sisterhood and for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Indeed, this moment is long overdue. Alpha Kappa Alpha is poised to continue our important work of voter engagement and mobilization during this election season. We remain committed to ensuring that individuals vote. Our 300,000 members comprising more than 1,025 chapters around the world understand that voting is a serious matter, and we are answering the clarion call at this inflection point to serve mankind through our election efforts. Pre-Election Report Identifies 7 Major Forces Reshaping the U.S. Economy Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

As the coronavirus continues to hurt the economy, a new report by the Kenan Institute shows what forces are changing the U.S. economy.

The report, Seven Factors Reshaping the Economy, explores the economic challenges and opportunities facing the nation amid the coronavirus pandemic and what many consider to be the most important presidential election in U.S. history.

With a clear understanding that there will be no return to “business as usual,” the report offers new findings and pragmatic solutions for decision-makers navigating factors such as changes in travel and migration patterns, accelerating shifts toward on-demand and at-home retail services, on-shoring and widening of supply chains, and a renewed focus on diversity and dismantling systemic racism.

Other issues include the upending of education and childcare and changes to healthcare and pharmaceutical demand.

Coinciding with the release of the the report, a press briefing via webinar will be held Tuesday, September 22, at 11 a.m. Eastern.

The webinar will include DeLisa Alexander, the executive vice president and chief people officer of Red Hat; executive director for the Kenan Institute, Professor Greg Brown; David Carroll, founder of Carroll Family Holdings; Professor Jim Johnson, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School; and James Rosen, CEO, Artizan Biosciences.

Each speaker will discuss the report, the trends identified in the report, and how to tailor businesses to follow these trends and thrive in these uncertain times.

The report will be a living document, meaning each trend will be updated weekly and will be available on the Kenan Institute website.

Six months after the coronavirus hit the United States, businesses are still struggling even as some states have decreased their case numbers. New York, which has a coronavirus rate of less than 1% is still dealing with a $9 billion budget deficit, an education system scrambling to start the school year, and continued calls to defund the police, among other struggles.

White Utah Police Officer Charged With Felony Assault After Ordering Police Dog to Attack Black Man Who Had His Hands Up

White Utah Police Officer Charged With Felony Assault After Ordering Police Dog to Attack Black Man Who Had His Hands Up

Earlier this year in Utah, on April 24, as a Black man was being arrested with his hands raised as commanded by a white police officer, the officer ordered his K-9 dog to attack and bite the man. That white police officer has been charged with second-degree felony assault for his actions prosecutors announced earlier this week, according to USA Today.

The Salt Lake City District Attorney’s office has charged Salt Lake City officer Nickolas Pearce with aggravated assault stemming from the April 24 incident in which the police officer was responding to a domestic dispute call when he ordered his dog to bite Jeffery Ryans.

In August, bodycam footage of the video was released of the April incident that shows Ryans in his backyard as Pearce approaches with his dog.

“Get on the ground!” Pearce says. “Get on the ground or you’re gonna get bit.”

Several moments later, Pearce shouts “hit” to the dog and that’s when the dog starts to bite Ryans. The dog does so, several times, as Ryans is screaming out in pain. While this is taking place, Pearce commends the dog by saying, “Good boy.”

Ryans then says, “I’m on the ground. Why are you biting me?”

Ryans told The Tribune last month that he was confused by the officers’ orders as one told him to get on the ground while another ordered him to come to him.

“I wasn’t running,” he told the newspaper. “I wasn’t fighting. I was just cooperating. We’ve been through this. We’ve seen this. Always cooperate with the police, no matter what.”

A written statement was released by the Salt Lake City Police Department:

“The Salt Lake City Police Department has been informed of the District Attorney’s decision to file criminal charges against Officer Nickolas Pearce stemming from the April 24, 2020 incident involving Officer Pearce, one of the Department’s K9 officers, and Mr. Jeffery Ryans.

“The Department has also received the report from the independent investigation conducted by the City’s Civilian Review Board.

“The Department takes the District Attorney’s decision and the Civilian Review Board’s findings very seriously. Both will be evaluated and taken into account as the Department is finalizing its Internal Affairs investigation.

“If Internal Affairs finds that Officer Pearce committed a policy violation, the Chief’s Office will follow the disciplinary process required under state and federal law. This can take some time, but we will carry this out as expediently as possible to bring a prompt conclusion to this matter.”

How does the mind operate in terms of getting business done as opposed to when you first launched FUBU?

I talk about this in my new book, Building an Empire. You must think outside the box. You must follow your own vision. You must create your future. Don’t let your circumstance dictate your reality.

J.Alexander Build an Empire

Longevity is one aspect of business that keeps it successful. To what do you attribute the longevity of the FUBU brand and being able to branch off and create other aspects and businesses based on the company you and your friends started?

Always evolving and being in touch with your customer. We are the consumer so we know what we want. We are the narrative and the narrator at the same damn time! We are from the streets of Queens where hip-hop became mainstream via Run DMC and LL Cool J. We took urban fashion all over the world. The culture is our DNA. We wouldn’t be who we are, or have made such an impact without being true to oneself. We are African American Black men navigating in a country that thinks less of us. That gives us strength to keep going. As Black men we have to stick together. We are all we got! For Us By Us!!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to replicate the type of success you have and continue to have all these years?

My advice in any business is my startup exercise. I write down all the foreseeable obstacles in starting that particular business and I find an answer for each obstacle. After that’s done then I start my business. This practice makes you pragmatic, allowing you to pivot when the market changes.

This formula has helped us have staying power.

Was there ever a time when you didn’t think you’d be able to sustain your business?

No, businesses have life cycles. You may struggle financially, however, we built a movement based on the culture of hip-hop. If hip-hop dies, we die! Hip-hop has evolved as we have.

What’s next for J. Alexander Martin?

Due to the COVID-19 virus, I personally felt a need to help by using my business relationships in distribution and manufacturing along with the plethora of contacts to help government, states, and hospitals obtain PPE products. I have been involved in successfully distributing over 1 billion masks to municipalities via my company, J. Alexander Martin Consulting LLC. I am SAM registered and I’m on the national disaster registry list.

I am on the board of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, [which] is dedicated to economically empowering and sustaining African American communities through entrepreneurship and capitalistic activity within the United States and via interaction with the Black Diaspora.

I’m the director of entrepreneurship for DreamSmart Academy, a performance-enhancing, behavioral-based, socially conscious, online coaching, and wellness curriculum. Our wellness curriculum aligns students’/learners’ body, mind, soul, and finances. DreamSmart Academy calls this alignment HarMone©. The alignment of body, mind, soul, and finances optimizes students’/learners’ abilities to be productive in the real world. Through consistent practice of HarMone students/learners have the best possible chance to make their dreams and goals a reality.

I’m the board member of the National Association of Black Professional Athletes. NABPA’s mission is to provide a global platform for black professional athletes to come together and unite to be an impact on social justice reform and outreach to underserved people of our communities.

I’m the managing partner of Greenpoint Capital, a middle-market consulting and advisory firm that helps both public and private companies secure equity/debt capital, form strategic partnerships, help with staffing needs, and with mergers and acquisitions.

Michelle Obama: ‘When We Were in the White House, We Could’ve Never Gotten Away With Some of the Stuff That’s Going On Now’

On the latest episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast, the former first lady states that based on how the current president has run his administration as opposed to how President Barack Obama handled his, that as Black Americans, they “could’ve never gotten away with some of the stuff that’s going on now” in the White House because our “community wouldn’t have accepted that,” according to The Hill.

The latest episode was the season finale of The Michelle Obama Podcast. It was released on Wednesday with her guests, her older brother, Craig Robinson, and their mother, Marian Robinson, in an episode titled “Family Ties: On Raising Kids with Craig & Marian Robinson.”

The family members were discussing race and what is expected of Black people in the world we live in when it comes to expectations.

“When Black folks, you know, what a lot of folks who are not in our position don’t understand is that, this is such a way of life,” Obama says, “When it comes to interacting with the rest of the world, it doesn’t matter, you know who you are, and what kind of values you have, you know, nobody, thinks about, you know, the fact that we all come from good families that are trying to teach values.

“But, when you leave the safety of your home and go out into the street, where being Black is a crime in and of itself. We have all had to learn how to operate outside of our homes with a level of caution, and fear because you never know.

“And we grow up, having to have conversations with our children, because almost everybody I know has had some kind of incident where they were doing, just minding their own business, but, living Black, and got accused of something.”

Obama later discussed how Black people have to do better based on the perception of people outside the community.

“You’re taught people are gonna assume the worst of you. So you’ve got to be better than, you’ve got to be 10 times better than. And when we were in the White House, we didn’t, we could’ve never gotten away with some of the stuff that’s going on now. Not because of the public, but our community wouldn’t have accepted that.

“You worked, you did your best every day. You showed up. And we did it in the White House, but there are people and jobs all over this community, all over this country, all over this world, who are doing this same thing, because that’s how we were raised. We have to be better, to just be, equal, so, the fact that there are people out there that treat us less than, when we’re working so hard to be better than, that’s where the pain comes from.”

Colin Kaepernick’s All-Black Number 7 Nike Jersey Sells Out in Seconds

Nike’s latest, just-released Colin Kaepernick football jersey sold out almost instantly, according to Fox Business.

The Icon Jersey 2.0 Kaepernick retailed for $150 before selling out in under a minute.

“Four years ago,” according to a statement on the Nike site, “Colin Kaepernick first took a knee to peacefully protest against systemic racism and social injustice.

“In the years since, he’s used his platform as an athlete to help advance the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities.

“Through his continuous commitment, the number 7 jersey has become an iconic symbol for progress and positive change. Colin and Nike team up together once again, this time with a Triple Black jersey, paying homage to the anniversary of Kaepernick seeking what’s true.

“True to each other. True to the movement. True to 7.”

Eric Reid, a teammate of Kaepernick, also kneeled in solidarity to help bring awareness to racial injustice and police brutality against Blacks.

Earier this week, Kaepernick came to the defense of his friend and fellow social injustice protester Reid, who remains unsigned.

Samuel L. Jackson Keeps Promise To Teach People How To Curse In 15 Languages If They Register To Vote

Actor Samuel L. Jackson has kept a campaign promise of his own for the upcoming presidential election. He posted on social media on Tuesday, “Listen up, if 2,500 of you head to my HeadCount link to make sure you’re #GoodToVote, I will teach you to swear in 15 different languages,” said the talented thespian.

Earlier that day, Jackson posted this Tweet to try to encourage people to check their voter registration status or to register to vote.

And as promised, Jackson comes through as the goal is reached and he returned to Twitter on Wednesday to deliver his promise to teach others “to swear in 15 different languages.”

If you still have not registered to vote (even after Jackson’s incentive) and/or you need to check on your  registration status, you can click on this link to do so.

This initiative is being headed by the organization HeadCount.
