Alisa Gumbs
VP/Deputy Chief Content OfficerAlisa Gumbs is an award-winning multimedia business journalist and content strategist with two decades of experience, from writing compelling cover stories of successful CEOs, to conducting insightful video interviews with powerful executives, and skillfully moderating live panels in front of thousands on the issues facing professionals and entrepreneurs.
In her current position as vice president and deputy chief content officer, she leads the company’s women’s franchises, Women of Power for Black women executives and SistersInc. for Black women entrepreneurs. She is responsible for the editorial direction and growth of women’s content across digital, video, email, and events platforms, including BLACK ENTERPRISE’s signature annual event, the Women of Power Summit, and the virtual Women of Power TECH and SistersInc. summits. She also serves as creator and host of the SistersInc. video podcast and host of the On the Clock video series.
Gumbs joined BLACK ENTERPRISE in August 2003 as a copy editor and later spent a year as copy chief before being promoted to managing editor in 2007 and executive managing editor in 2015, where she oversaw beat editors, managed the contributors’ network, created and implemented digital series and branded campaigns, and played a critical role in the planning and production of print issues. Earlier in her career, she was a senior copy editor and regional feature correspondent at PR Newswire, editing breaking earnings announcements and helping clients craft pickup-worthy press releases.
Gumbs is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication.
