White Police Chief Resigned After He Placed KKK Message On Black Officer’s Jacket

White Police Chief Resigned After He Placed KKK Message On Black Officer’s Jacket

A white police chief resigned on last Tuesday after he placed a “Ku Klux Klan” note on a Black officer’s desk.

Former Sheffield Lake police chief Anthony Campo in Sheffield Lake, Ohio, reportedly thought it was a funny “joke” when he put a racist note on the desk of a fellow unidentified Black officer, Cleveland.com reported.

Video shows Campo placed a note that says “Ku Klux Klan” on the jacket laying on the Black officer’s desk.

For further context, Campo, who has been on the force for 8 years, was the Black officer’s superior, who started nine months ago.

Campo’s resignation was forced by Sheffield Lake Mayor Dennis Bring, who was informed of the incident because Sheffield Lake Law Director David Graves received a harassment complaint from the police union.

The mayor was appalled that the then-police chief would think using white supremacy would be a suitable “prank” on a Black officer.

“He thought this was just a joke,” Bring told Cleveland.com. “How can you possibly think that you can put something on somebody’s jacket like that, and especially if they were African American, and think this is a joke? This is the most egregious and offensive thing you could possibly do. And it’s embarrassing and disgusting.”

“I came into the chief’s office, and he’s standing there with a smile on his face,” Bring told Cleveland.com. “He goes, ‘So, am I fired?'”

In response to Campo’s carelessness, Bring brought him an ultimatum with such fierceness: Bring told him he had 10 minutes to get out of his office, he was immediately placed on administrative leave until further notice, he was not allowed to touch anything, and he was told to surrender the keys to his cruiser and had to find another way back home, according to Cleveland.com.

The mayor then had a heart-to-heart moment with the Black victim.
“It took us 10 minutes to talk to each other because we both sat there crying,” Bring said. “I apologized to him. I can’t describe it in one word. This is not a mistake. This is something so egregious I can’t describe it.”

Promising Young, Black Philly Fashion Designer and a State Senator’s Relative, Killed at July 4th Cookout

A young and promising Philly-based designer who was celebrating the Fourth of July at his Premiére Bande clothing store with family and friends, was killed in a hail of gunfire that tore through the storefront and claimed the life of  Sircarr Johnson Jr.

Sircarr Johnson Sr., the father of 23-year-old Sircarr Jr., cradled his son in his arms Sunday night after bullets penetrated his body, killing him, and narrowly missing Johnson Sr, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

“How the bullet don’t hit me? How it don’t hit me?” the anguished father asked.

The shooting was one of many harrowing moments erupting in the troubled city where random gunfire has become a street song and this latest hit was one of dozens of shootings within a span of 12 hours, according to the outlet. At least 20 people were shot within that timeframe and five died, according to reports.

Sircarr Jr., was killed at the West Philadelphia store, along with 21-year-old Salahaldin Mahmoud, who is reportedly the nephew of State Sen. Sharif Street, according to CBS 3 in Philly. Street’s wife is related to Mahmoud. Street is the son of former Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street and the nephew of former State Senator Milton Street.

Another victim, a 16-year-old girl, was injured and suffered from gunshot wounds but is stable, according to police.

Sircarr Jr. was a passionate clothing designer, according to his dad, and at the age of 14 he began designing clothing in his grandmother’s basement. The fruits of his labor later blossomed from the basement to his Premiére Bande shop, which he opened in 2018, according to reports.

“There is no reason he should be dead. He didn’t do anything in his life to deserve this,” Sircarr Sr., said.

The Fourth of July cookout took on even more reason to celebrate Sircarr because he made it to the age of 23, a milestone in their family. Sircarr Sr., said his dad died at 23 so they always celebrate a whole new epoch in the lives of the men in the family who make it to that benchmark.

“And my son made it to 23,” he said, “but he didn’t make it past that.”

Sircarr Jr., even took to Instagram at the beginning of the year to mark the milestone with a social media message.

“It’s been a long year. But I made it to see 23. … I’m turning up for all those that couldn’t see it come to motion. Let’s ball,” he wrote.

On Sunday, Sircarr Jr., took to Instagram to extend an invite to his Fourth of July anniversary cookout. “Everything free starts at 6:00,” he wrote.

This Top-Rated VPN And Password Manager Is Only $99

Going offline is a rarity these days. The world is constantly on the Internet and so are digital pirates looking to steal information from innocent users. This is why you can’t leave your device unprotected, and grabbing a two-year subscription bundle to NordVPN and NordPass is more crucial than ever before, especially at just $99.99.

Subscribing to a VPN service keeps your computer secure from unwanted cyber-attacks whether you’re using a personal or public WiFi connection. Additionally, it lets you stay incognito to avoid unwanted government surveillance or if you’re simply hoping to eliminate any online footprints from your sensitive data such as bank information, passwords, and more.

NordVPN is a top-rated solution, garnering an “outstanding” rating from PC Mag, that allows users to explore the web with full security and anonymity by keeping their personal information as safe as possible, as well as hiding your location. It’s useable across a bevy of platforms and allows users to bypass content restrictions, stay anonymous, and automatically shut down any browsing you do as soon as the VPN connection drops. You won’t have to worry about NordVPN slowing things down either as you’ll be able to enjoy full browsing speeds.

Additionally, this two-year subscription to NordVPN includes Nord’s Password Manager, NordPass. This tool remembers and saves all of your passwords and allows you to autofill them on whichever app they are needed. Other password managers don’t offer the security that NordPass does, nor do they offer the ability to sync your passwords across all of your devices and platforms you use. Best of all, for those not-so-tech-savvy users, NordVPN and NordPass offer handy customer support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Moreover, in case you’re in another country and want to use NordVPN or NordPass, rest assured that Nord has over 5,000 servers in 59 countries, so you’ll never be without them.

Black Enterprise subscribers can snag this two-year subscription bundle that includes NordVPN and NordPass for only $99, which is a significant 75% off the standard price of $406 when buying them both separately. Don’t wait, and don’t let your sensitive information go without some added security when browsing online.

Bill Cosby Lashes Out At Howard University for Publicly Rebuking Phylicia Rashad’s Statement

Bill Cosby had a few words for Howard University after the HBCU publicly reprimanded his “TV wife” Phylicia Rashad for supporting his abrupt prison release, Deadline reports.

“Howard University you must support ones Freedom of Speech (Ms. Rashad), which is taught or suppose to be taught everyday at that renowned law school, which resides on your campus,” Cosby said in a statement released to NPR. The 83-year-old former comedian was released from prison on Wednesday, June 30 after serving nearly three years. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction due to a technicality.

“This mainstream media has become the Insurrectionists, who stormed the Capitol,” Cosby continued in his statement. “WE THE PEOPLE STAND IN SUPPORT OF MS. PHYLICIA RASHAD.”

Bill Cosby Defends Phylicia Rashad Over Statement

The Cosby Show actress Phylicia Rashad received backlash from people disappointed in her controversial Tweet in support of Cosby.

“FINALLY!!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted – a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” Rashad wrote on June 30. The tweet has been removed from social media.

A few hours later, Rashad tweeted, “I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.”

Some critics and members of the Howard University community have called for Rashad’s resignation, NewsOne reported. In May 2021, Howard University named Phylicia Rashad as dean of the reestablished College of Fine Arts. She graduated from the HBCU with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 1970. Fans were excited to see Rashad back at the institution but her controversial tweet may have put Howard University in the hot seat. July 1 was the actor’s official first day on the job.

Howard University issued a statement disavowing the tweet by Phylicia Rashad. The school stated that her initial tweet “lacked sensitivity” and that they “will continue to advocate for survivors fully and support their right to be heard.”

Rashad Pens Apology Letter

Rashad issued an apology letter to Howard University students and parents on July 2.

“My remarks were in no way directed towards survivors of sexual assault. I vehemently oppose sexual violence, find no excuse for such behavior, and I know that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy toward interpersonal violence,” Rashad shared in a letter, per CNN.

The U.S. Sun reported speculation that Cosby might ask Howard University to return donations that he’s given to the HBCU over the years.

65-Year Old Grandmother Graduates From High School as Class Valedictorian

65-Year Old Grandmother Graduates From High School as Class Valedictorian

Twyanna Williams, a 65-year old grandmother from Philadelphia, has finally graduated from high school after putting her education off for several years due to financial reasons. What’s more, is she was honored as the class valedictorian!

When she was a teen, Williams didn’t have a chance to continue high school since her parents separated. She had to take jobs to help the family financially.

“I felt sad for myself for coming out of school and seeing my friends graduating but I was working,” Williams told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “My focus was on surviving.”

She had to work at local fast-food restaurants, hospitals, and hotels. But she didn’t forget her dream of going back to school to earn a high school diploma, especially whenever she had to attend the graduation ceremonies of her 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

“Everyone deserves a high school diploma,” she said. “The older I got, the more I wanted it.”

Last year, Williams had the opportunity to return to school through the Educational Options Programs in Philadelphia, which allows older students to complete credits to receive a high school diploma.

Most recently, she finished the program and became one of the two valedictorians in her category B class of returning students ages 40 and over at South Philadelphia High School.

Petition for Sha’Carri Richardson’s Reinstatement Has Garnered Over 450,000 Signatures; Suspended After Positive Marijuana Test

Sha’Carri Richardson’s fans are showing support by adding their signatures to a petition. Fans are rooting for Richardson to compete in the 100-meter dash at the Tokyo Olympics.

As of Monday morning, the petition has garnered over 450,000 signatures.

MoveOn Civic Action,  a 501(c)(4) organization, launched the petition on Friday after news broke that the 21-year-old star athlete would face a one-month Olympic team suspension. Richardson tested positive for marijuana, violating an anti-doping rule designed to promote clean competition. The U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) released the news on Friday, noting that ‘the rules are clear’.

“Hopefully, her acceptance of responsibility and apology will be an important example to us all that we can successfully overcome our regrettable decisions, despite the costly consequences of this one to her,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart in a statement.

The USADA reported that Richardson accepted a one-month period of ineligibility that started on June 28. This means she is currently not eligible for the 100-meter race. However, there’s a chance for Richardson to run the 4×100 meter relay.

Over 450,000 Signatures Support Sha’Carri Richardson’s Reinstatement

Sha’Carri Richardson witnessed a dream come true when she won the 100-meter dash victory at the U.S Olympic trial. During that time, she also received news that left her in a state of emotional panic.

“Last week, finding out my biological mother passed away and still choosing to pursue my dreams,” Richardson told reporters after winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.86 seconds. “Still coming out here…still here to make the family that I do still have on this earth proud. And the fact [is] nobody knows what I go through.”

On Friday, Richardson told the “Today” show that she used marijuana as a coping mechanism to deal with her loss.

“I didn’t know how to control my emotions or deal with my emotions during that time,” Richardson shared.

She added, “Who am I to tell you how to cope when you’re dealing with a pain. Or you’re dealing with a struggle that you’ve never experienced before?”

MoveOn Civic Action demands a review of the outdated marijuana rules. In the petition, the organization calls out possible racism against a ‘world-class Black, queer, woman athlete’. Cannabis is legal for recreational use among adults in more than a dozen states including Oregon. This is the state where Richardson’s positive drug test was found, NBC Sports reported.

“In no world is marijuana a performance-enhancing drug for runners,” the petition states. “The United States Anti-Doping Agency should drop their penalty and allow Richardson to compete!”

Lawmakers Call on Anti-Doping Agency to Reverse Suspension

Even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is in favor of ending Richardon’s suspension. She believes the USADA’s cannabis rules for athletes are antiquated. She’s joining forces with other lawmakers to request that the International Olympic Committee reverse its one-months suspension of Sha’Carri Richardson.

“This punishment, which is not supported by any specific evidence, may prevent Ms. Richardson from competing in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics just after she inspired the country with her performance in the Olympic Trials last month,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter.

“We urge you to reconsider the policies that led to this and other suspensions for recreational marijuana use, and to reconsider Ms. Richardson’s suspension. Please strike a blow for civil liberties and civil rights by reversing this course you are on.”

In a recent tweet, Sha’Carri Richardson expressed her gratitude to her supporters and called out those who have criticized her during this time. “The support [heart emojis] my community I thank y’all,” Richardson wrote. “The negative forget y’all and enjoy the games because we all know it won’t be the same.”

This 91-Year Old Police Officer From Arkansas Refuses to Retire

LC “Buckshot” Smith, a 91-year old African American police officer who has been working in law enforcement for over 56 years, continues to serve his community in Camden, Arkansas. He is one of the oldest police officers in the U.S. and he says he doesn’t want to retire just yet.

Ten years ago, Smith tried to retire from being a sheriff deputy. But he immediately missed the work so he returned after a few months. Now, he says he will only retire “when the good lord says so,” according to CNN.

Smith decided to join the police force in the 1960s with the passion and excitement of being a police officer. Since then, he had been well-loved in the small town where everyone knows him and greets him when they see him.

Over the years, Smith had served as a court bailiff, a responder, and assured the security of the neighborhood as well as the annual festivals and events in Camden, among others.

Smith goes to work 4 days a week. When he isn’t at work, he is either spending time with his lady friend or attending church services.

Once Homeless 10-Year Old Boy is Now a U.S. National Chess Master

Once Homeless 10-Year Old Boy is Now a U.S. National Chess Master

Tanitoluwa Adewumi, a 10-year old boy who lives in New York, is now officially a U.S. National Chess Master. It is a dream come true for the boy who won the New York State chess championship while living in a homeless shelter when he was just 8-years old.

Most recently, Adewumi won his latest championship when he ultimately earned a chess rating of 2223. The United States National Chess Master title is given to players who reached a rating of over 2200 points accrued from games, which Adewumi achieved.

It came just 2 years after Adewumi gained national attention in winning the National State chess championship. He learned chess just within a year after he and his family arrived in the US in 2017 as they fled from Nigeria due to fears of terrorist attacks.

During their first years in New York City, his family was living in a homeless shelter near a school where there was a chess program. When several people learned about his situation, a GoFundMe fundraiser was launched and eventually raised $254,000, which helped them move to a better home where they currently reside.

Last year, a biography called My Name is Tani based on his life was published and is set to be produced as a film with Paramount Pictures.
