Florida Man Killed a Mother and Child Then Returned to Crime Scene and Killed Journalists Covering Story

Tragedy occurred in Pine Hills, FL after Keith Moses allegedly opened fire, killing a 9-year-old girl, a 38-year-old, Nathacha Augustin and injuring several others Wednesday morning.

Fox 35 reported Moses, 19, shot the child and her mother inside their home.

Hours later, he returned to the scene of the crime where news reporters were covering the incident. He then shot Spectrum 13 News reporter, Dylan Lyons, and photojournalist, Jesse Walden, while sitting inside their vehicle. Lyons later died at a local hospital.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina said authorities are still unaware of the motive for the crimes. While Moses did have ties to Augustin as “an acquaintance,” Mina said the suspect isn’t associated with the other victims.

“The suspect is not saying much right now. It’s hard to know if he was targeting this news crew,” Mina said. “Again, that will all be a part of our investigation. I was out at the scene and the vehicle doesn’t really look like a news vehicle to me, but then again, there was a photographer there so that’s possible.”

As news broke of the tragedy, journalists still had a job to do by covering the tragic death of their colleague. A reporter for WESH2 in Florida was seen on Twitter breaking down in tears, talking about the incident.

While only 19-years-old, Moses has a lengthy rap sheet, with charges including aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon, gun charges, burglary, and grand theft. WFLA reported the suspect was due in court but waived his first appearance in court and is being held without bond. When he does make an appearance, a judge will formally charge him with first-degree murder.

D.L. Hughley Calls Out The ‘Hypocrites’ Silent About Actor Ben Stein’s Aunt Jemima Comments

Outspoken comedian D.L. Hughley is calling out the “hypocrites” who are being silent about Ben Stein’s controversial comments on the Aunt Jemima image, but were so quick to cancel Kanye West and Kyrie Irving.

Over the week, a video surfaced online showing Stein expressing his gripes with the Aunt Jemima character being removed from the Quaker Oats syrup and pancake packages. The video, first posted to Donald Trump’s Truth Social, shows Stein talking about having breakfast for dinner.

“Aunt Jemima, yummy, pancake syrup,” Stein says.

“This use to show a large African-American woman chef, but because of the inherent racism of America’s corporate culture, they decided to make it a white person or maybe no person at all,” he continued.

“I prefer it as a Black person showing their incredible skill at making pancakes,” Stein said in conclusion.

As controversial as Stein’s comments are, they haven’t gotten as much backlash as some would hope. Comedian D.L. Hughley is among those who want to see more outrage over the video.

The “Original Kings of Comedy” star took to Twitter on Wednesday to react to Stein’s Aunt Jemima comments and call out the “hypocrites” who are seemingly unbothered by Stein’s remarks but were quick to label Kanye and Kyie as antisemitic.

“If you called #Kanye or #Kyrie anti semites but are silent about #BenStein saying he misses #AuntJemimah on the syrup bottle you’re a f—–g hypocrite,” Hughley exclaimed.

Quaker Oats announced they were removing the Aunt Jemima image from their product packaging and changing the company name in 2020, saying the company recognizes that “Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype,” NBC News reports.

“As we work to make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives, we also must take a hard look at our portfolio of brands and ensure they reflect our values and meet our consumers’ expectations,” Kristin Kroepfl, vice president and chief marketing officer of Quaker Foods North America said.

The decision came during the Black Lives Matter movement in response to the murder of George Floyd. One TikToker posted a video that shared the racist history behind the “Mammy” figure that Aunt Jemima was designed after.

The company renamed the brand to the Pearl Milling Company in 2021, CNN reports.

Ricky Smiley, Loni Love and 2 Chainz Were ‘Driving the Legacy’ for the 2023 Honda Battle of the Bands

This past weekend was the 18th Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase (HBOB) and this year’s edition was the first one to take place at an HBCU (historically black colleges and universities). It also marked a return to it being a live event, for the first time since 2020,

Alabama State University was the location and is not too far from Honda’s Automobile Plant which is based in Lincoln, AL.

The theme for this year’s HBOB was, “Driving the Legacy.”

As an invited press member, I had the distinction of driving the latest Honda offering, the 2023 Honda Pilot.

This test drive was remarkably different because this was the first time that I drove a new car in a real-time situation. What I mean by that is that with previous vehicles I’ve road-tested, it was basically a controlled road/path for a short period of time. But, I actually flew into Atlanta, and picked up the Pilot that was waiting for me at the airport. So, I drove more than two hours to Prattville, which is close to ASU, where the Battle of the Bands took place.

The day before the invitational, I got to experience the inner workings of an assembly plant. There, we witnessed all the steps necessary to put together the Pilot as we watched cars being built right before our eyes.

Before the Battle of the Bands started, we got a chance to hear some words from the two hosts, who are also HBCU alums that have been supporting the event for several years now, radio host, Rickey Smiley (who is returning home since he attended Alabama State University), and comedian Loni Love (who attended Prairie View A&M University). Smiley took center stage on the field, as Love led the livestream in the stadium.

Both expressed the importance of not only the event but the shared HBCU experience that helped shape them. Especially the importance of the marching bands with their rich history at HBCUs.

Smiley said that the marching bands set the tone for our culture.

“It starts with the marching bands. Marching bands at HBCUs historically, especially when I was a kid, just really set the tone for a lot of our culture. It’s so important, the beat, the rhythm, the dancing, it just sets the tone.”

Love brought up the fact that some of the football teams weren’t that good, so the bands were the reason people would go to the games.

“The thing is that a lot of times, historically, Black colleges didn’t have great football teams, so a lot of times, we go just to see the band. Honestly, it’s a great way to advertise the school. There’s a different way that we march than if you notice, with PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions), they march slower, we hot step!”

Both comedians agreed that everybody would leave after halftime after the band played.

The schools that were invited to this year’s showcase were:

  • Morgan State University: The Magnificent Marching Machine made its first appearance at Honda Battle of the Bands
  • Texas Southern University: Ocean of Soul participated for a third time
  • Langston University: The Marching Pride was there for its fourth appearance
  • Alabama State University: The Mighty Marching Hornets buzzed for its seventh invitational
  • Savannah State University: Powerhouse of the South ties ASU for second-most appearances
  • Virginia State University: Trojan Explosion has made the most showings by appearing for the 10th time

Not only were the schools able to showcase the amazing display of talents within the bands, but each university also received a $50,000 grant from Honda to go towards the institution’s music education and career development programs.

The host city of Montgomery also benefited from Honda’s continued support of HBCUs. Honda gave the Alabama city $100,000 in local grants and $20,000 to two nonprofit organizations. Those non-profits collaborated with Honda to create a new mural that was installed on the ASU campus.

The only interruption to viewing the magnificence of the bands was the halftime performance from another ASU alumni, 2 Chainz.

He came through and performed several of his hits while the crowd went crazy.

In addition to the marching band performances at the 2023 Invitational Showcase, HBOB also included an HBCU College Fair hosted by ASU to connect high school students with representatives from ASU, Savannah State University, and Virginia State University. The college fair enabled prospective college students to meet with marching band and admissions recruiters to discuss admissions requirements, financial aid, student life, and scholarship opportunities. Students who attended the college fair received free admission to the HBOB Invitational Showcase.

Lauryn Hill

Fans Roast Lauryn Hill’s Headline Set at Annual Roots Picnic, ‘She Will Arrive AFTER The Concert’

Lauryn Hill has been announced as the headliner for this year’s annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia and fans are just hoping the R&B musician will actually arrive on time.

On Wednesday, tickets for the Roots Picnic went on sale after Lauryn Hill, Diddy, The Roots, Lil Uzi Vert, and Dave Chappelle were all announced as headliners at the Live Nation Entertainment event, People reported. The festival will go down June 2–4 at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts and Wells Fargo Center.

With it being hip-hop’s 50th birthday, the festival includes a jam-packed lineup of rap and R&B greats, including Eve, Busta Rhymes, The Isley Brothers, Kindred The Family Soul, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, GloRilla, Syd and Coco Jones, among many others. Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Akademiks are set to headline the podcast stage.

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Lauryn’s iconic Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album, hence the Grammy-winning singer being tapped to headline. But considering Hill’s reputation for lateness and criticized stage shows, fans are wondering if the “Ex-Factor” singer will prove the critics wrong by arriving on time and putting on a stellar performance.

Fans sounded off about Lauryn’s headlining set after Baller Alert announced the tour on their Instagram.

“A rare performance from Ms. Lauryn Hill to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album,” the blog shared in its caption.

“Lauryn will most likely arrive AFTER the concert 😭 never paying my moniesss to see her perform again 😩,” one fan jokingly said.

“Well they better give her a handler if they want her to show up in time and actually perform,” another user quipped. “Her on the bill is going to stop folks from buying tickets.”

One fan even urged Lauryn’s team to “start getting ready now!” so the songstress can make it on time for the June event.

Whether Lauryn Hill makes it on time or not, the 2023 Roots Picnic has a lineup that hip-hop and R&B lovers wouldn’t want to miss.

Black Family Owns the Block! Revitalizes Commercial Property in Texas for Black-owned Businesses

They’re bringing a town that was once full of life, back to its prime.

Dr. Tarcia and Derrick Hubert, a Black couple in Lott, TX, has jumped into full-time entrepreneurship, purchasing an entire block of abandoned commercial property to feature Black-owned businesses in the community.

According to a recent interview, the couple spent years highlighting Black-owned businesses through their YouTube channel. After the pandemic stunted business growth, the couple looked into purchasing buildings in Lott, like Tarcia’s uncle, who bought multiple buildings in the town.

“We kept telling him we want to purchase one and finally the opportunity rolled around,” Tarcia said in an interview. “The thing about these buildings are they’re owned by people who don’t want to sell them. In some cultures, people are taught to not sell — to hold onto their things. So, even though [the buildings] were abandoned, the people who owned them didn’t really want to sell them.”

The opportunity to purchase presented itself to the Huberts with a connection through Tarcia’s uncle who knew an owner willing to sell.

@dr.thubert

This all started as an idea and a dream! We had a goal to purchase these buildings and bring a town (Lott, TX) that was once full of life, but now dead, back to life. That dream is slowly starting to become a reality. There are a couple of businesses already open, a few set to open within the next couple of months, and more to come! We are excited to be apart of this process and thankful to God for blessing the dream! There will be Lott’s to like in Lott, TX and our goal is that you will want to come visit and see it all yourself!! I just want to say keep dreaming and pushing towards those dreams! Trust God and He will lead you and guide you to them! Be blessed! #familyproject #familyowned #familyownedbusiness #buytheblock #blackowned #commercialrealestate #dreambig #dreambigger #keepdreaming #trustgod

Tarcia revealed that the Lott area used to be a thriving town, back when it was known for a popular a store called Western Fair that drew people from all over the state. Currently an owner of an event space and a salon run their business on the block.

“Our goal is that people would want to come visit and patronize our businesses. They will want to come see what we’re doing. And then, also we want to get into developing the residential areas around there as well,” Tarcia said.

Construction is in process for the town revitalization and residents can expect a wing restaurant, coffee shop, and other restaurants to open soon, as the couple plans to have the block up and running by summer.

Additionally, the couple wants Lott to be a location option for people looking towards retirement.

“Like, here’s a small place that I can go to to have a peaceful life and a safe environment but also to have some nice businesses that people would want to come to visit,” Tarcia said.

THE ROCK, JOHNSON, Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson Jokes About ‘Guns’ in His Car After Being Stopped by Police Officers

The Rock can get away with joking about guns when dealing with cops, but other Black folks please do not try this tactic!

The recent season of the XFL football has started and Dwayne Johnson, co-owner of the league, showed up to one of the games at a security checkpoint. He posted a video to his social media accounts of his interaction, showing that the police officer apparently knows who he is as he smiles while talking to the former professional wrestler.

“Can you do me a favor and put in park for me and make sure the doors are unlocked?” the cop asked.

Johnson responded by saying, “I can, and I got a lot of guns in here,” while flexing his massive biceps. He then stated, “These kinds.”

As the police officer laughed, knowing most people would find the joke corny, he said, “There’s always room for a cheesy joke, I know. You’re welcome.”

The video was posted to his Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter accounts.

“Absolutely horrible joke, but impeccable timing. You’re welcome 😂🧀👊🏾

“XFL Game Day and rollin’ up to the stadium and the bomb squad officers have to check the vehicle for any bombs or weapons.

All love, gratitude and respect for our men and women keeping us all safe 🙏🏾❤️

According to Entertainment Tonight, Johnson bought the XFL with his former wife and business partner, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital back in 2020. The purchase price for the football league, which plays its season after the Super Bowl, was approximately $15 million. This is the first season that the latest owners are operating, and the current season started league play last weekend on Feb. 18.

Johnson promoted the start of the season several weeks ago on his Twitter account.

Earlier this month, the action star averted tragedy when he thanked the angels above for protecting his mother in a car accident that took place in Los Angeles.

The Black Adam star posted to his Instagram account where he shared a gruesome wreckage photo of the auto accident his mother survived.

Lawyers Claim Suspect in Usain Bolt Money Laundering Case ‘Too Ill’ to Go to Jail

Lawyers Claim Suspect in Usain Bolt Money Laundering Case ‘Too Ill’ to Go to Jail

The case regarding Usain Bolt’s missing money continues.

Jean-Ann Panton, former client relationship manager at Stocks and Securities Ltd., admitted to stealing millions of dollars from the Olympic gold-medalist. Now with the trial underway, Panton’s attorneys claim she’s too sick to go to jail.

Sources reveal Tamika Harris, Panton’s attorney, applied for bail on her client’s behalf at the Supreme Court in Kingston. After Panton showed up to court in a wheelchair, Harris claimed her client was born with a dislocated hip and has had 25 surgeries since she was a child.

“She requires wheelchair assistance and the use of a walker as part of her rehabilitation and she has also had side effects from the antibiotics prescribed which makes balancing challenging,” Harris said, according to The Jamaica Gleaner.

“The last surgery that she did she got an infection and that made her prospect of recovery more difficult.”

The judge wasn’t moved by Harris’ pleas. Justice Shelly Williams didn’t say Harris’ claims weren’t believable, however, the only medical reports provided were those regarding Panton’s diabetic history. “I am not saying that you can’t put forward all of this, but if you are going to do that you need a medical report that supports your position,” Williams said.

BLACK ENTERPRISE reported that Panton allegedly started stealing money back in 2010 to pay for her father’s medical expenses, having being diagnosed with cancer. The former SSL employee said she had no idea how she was going to return the money. Things came to light after Bolt found more than $12 million missing from his account. After being caught, Panton wrote a statement and said she felt “could borrow the money from the Bolt management group to repay the other SSL clients.”

Bolt was gracious enough to give SSL 10 days to return the funds. Since then, the decorated athlete has fired his business manager.

‘THIS A LIE!’, Jesseca Dupart Denies LisaRaye Learned of Her Sister Da Brat’s Pregnancy On Social Media

Jesseca Dupart-Harris is shutting down all the mixed messaging surrounding her and Da Brat’s recent pregnancy announcement.

The “Funkdafied” rapper and her haircare mogul wife are the talk of the town after announcing their pregnancy with a gangster-inspired maternity shoot early this week. Amid all the news surrounding their pregnancy, fans started to speculate if a feud was brewing between Da Brat and her sister, actress LisaRaye McCoy,  after podcaster Raquel Harper reshared a clip from her interview with McCoy from last year, Page Six reports.

“I know you grown, but dang. I wanna marvel in your happiness ’cause that’s what it’s about,” McCoy said in the February 2022 episode of the “It’s Tricky with Raquel Harper” podcast.

The “Players Club” star added that she felt “a certain kind of way” about the situation. But at the time, McCoy was responding to an Instagram post Dupart-Harris shared that seemingly insinuated the couple were expecting.

A post shared by Jesseca Harris-Dupart (@darealbbjudy)

Once Dupart-Harris realized an old interview clip was being shared online regarding their pregnancy, she hopped into The Shade Room‘s comments to clear things up.

“THIS IS A LIE!,” Dupart-Harris wrote.

“SHADEROOM Please check the date on this interview and the accuracy, this is just honestly not a good time as her mom just passed … Let’s keep Lisa Raye in our prayers […]”

“WE COVERED ALL THIS ON @Bratlovesjudy_wetv this season BTW,” she added.

Harper also cleared up the timing of the interview in a post on her Instagram Story.

“The interview I did with @therealraye1 is from months ago not today,” she explained.

“I only posted because I thought it was from a story today and that my interview was just getting brought up from something currently,” she explained.

LisaRaye’s mother passed away on February 10 from an unknown illness. Fans have since been reacting to the media mixup after TSR deleted the story and posted a statement to clear up the mistake.

“Da Brat wife said that LisaRaye interview is old. Y’all blogs are weird AF,” one fan wrote.

Angela Davis Discovers Ancestor Was Mayflower Pilgrim in Episode of ‘Finding Your Roots’

New truths were revealed about the family of this Black Power movement leader.

In a Feb. 21 episode of Finding Your Roots, civil rights activist Angela Davis discovered that she is descended from a passenger on the Mayflower.

According to Tuesday’s episode, the results of a DNA test revealed that one of her ancestors, identified as William Brewster, was one of the 101 pilgrims who traveled to the United States aboard the Mayflower.

“Do you know what you’re looking at?” the show’s host, Henry Louis Gates Jr., asked Davis during the episode, showing her a list of the passengers on the Mayflower.

“No. I can’t believe this,” Davis responded. “No, my ancestors did not come here on the Mayflower.”

Davis’ initial mission was for Gates’ team to dig into the true identity of her maternal grandparents, who Davis’ mother, Sallye Bell, a foster child, had never met .

Research found that the father of Davis’ mother was John Austin Darden, a white lawyer from Alabama who was considered a prominent and wealthy member of his community.

“He has my mother’s lips. It’s so funny, I can see her in him,” Davis said as they viewed a photo of Darden and compared the resemblances beside a photo of Bell, whose biological mother was Black.

“I guess I’m both glad but I’m also really angry … my mother may not have been the only one,” Davis added. “She may have siblings who are half Black. So this actually opens up so many other questions.”

Gates also revealed truths of other distant ancestors, including one from the 1700s who was a slave owner in Georgia. Davis’ father, Benjamin Frank Davis, never told her that her paternal grandfather, Murphy Jones, was a white man who had multiple children with her grandmother, Mollie Spencer.

The episode also revealed that Spencer’s father, a Black man named Isom Spencer, was born a slave in 1824 on a Marengo County cotton plantation. He was freed after the Civil War ended, but had to fight in court to demand freedom for his nieces and nephews, who the plantation owner tried to retain as slaves.

“I assume that my ancestors lived on plantations as slaves. But of course I didn’t know who they were. I didn’t know who the slave owners were,” Davis said, expressing sadness for her enslaved ancestors.
