Doctor Arrested for Issuing Phony COVID-19 Immunization Pills and Bogus Vaccination Cards

A naturopathic doctor located in Napa, California, has been arrested and accused of selling fake COVID-19 pills and providing bogus immunization cards as well.

The Department of Justice for the Northern District of California announced that 41-year-old Juli A. Mazi, a California-licensed homeopathic doctor was arrested on Wednesday for an alleged scheme to sell “homeoprophylaxis immunization pellets.” She was also arrested for falsifying COVID-19 vaccination cards for customers looking for proof of vaccination.

Mazi, 41, of Napa, has been charged with one count of wire fraud and one count of false statements related to healthcare matters. The case is the first federal criminal fraud prosecution related to homeoprophylaxis immunizations and fraudulent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 vaccination record cards.

“This defendant allegedly defrauded and endangered the public by preying on fears and spreading misinformation about FDA-authorized vaccinations, while also peddling fake treatments that put people’s lives at risk. Even worse, the defendant allegedly created counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards and instructed her customers to falsely mark that they had received a vaccine, allowing them to circumvent efforts to contain the spread of the disease,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco in a written statement. “The Department of Justice and its law enforcement partners are committed to protecting the American people from fraudsters during this national emergency.  This commitment is evident in this prosecution as well as in the ongoing work of the Department and our agency partners in the COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force established by the Attorney General earlier this year.”

Based on filed paperwork, back in April 2021, someone complained to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) hotline that some family members bought some COVID-19 homeoprophylaxis immunization pellets from Mazi.

Bad Beside Manner

The complainant stated that the family members informed them that Mazi said the pellets contained the COVID-19 virus and would create an antibody response in the immune system. None of the family members received any injections of any of the three FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines. But, along with giving the family members the pellets, Mazi sent them COVID-19 Vaccination Record cards, in which Moderna was the listed vaccine. Mazi allegedly told the family members to mark the cards to falsely state that they received the Moderna vaccine on the date that they took the COVID-19 homeoprophylaxis immunization pellets.

“Steering through the challenges presented by COVID-19 requires trust and reliance on our medical professionals to provide sage information and guidance,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Stephanie Hinds for the Northern District of California. “According to the complaint, instead of disseminating valid remedies and information, Juli Mazi profited from unlawfully peddling unapproved remedies, stirring up false fears, and generating fake proof of vaccinations. We will act to protect trust in the medical developments that are enabling us to emerge from the problems presented by the pandemic.”

“Spreading inaccurate or false medical information about COVID-19 for personal gain, as the complaint alleges, is dangerous and only seeds skepticism among the public,” said Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair of the FBI’s San Francisco Field Office. “As the government continues to work to provide current and accurate information to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the FBI will continue to pursue those who attempt to fraudulently profit from spreading misinformation and providing false documentation.”

Olympian Allyson Felix Launched A Sneaker Just For Women After Nike Cut Her Pay Due To Pregnancy

Olympian Allyson Felix Launched A Sneaker Just For Women After Nike Cut Her Pay Due To Pregnancy

Olympian Allyson Felix has fire in her belly as an advocate for fellow mothers who are athletes, record-breaking speed in her feet, and the guts of an innovative entrepreneur unafraid to create a product.

Felix is a six-time gold medalist who “is the most decorated U.S. track and field athlete of all time,” according to the Olympics.

But before competing in the Olympics, the athlete and entrepreneur created “a lifestyle sneaker designed for and by women” under her brand called Saysh. Additionally, “a community-centered lifestyle brand that creates products for, and by, women” was also created. However, when it comes to the sneaker, Felix wanted to create a comfortable, elegant, and “athletic-inspired” product with feminine shapes, Vogue reported.

“Typically in footwear, shoes are built for men, sized down, and recolored for women,” she said. “We understand the true proportion and need of a woman’s foot.”

Felix is an outspoken athlete who went toe-to-toe with Nike—which was once her sponsor—over an alleged pay cut due to her pregnancy.

On June 27, she posted a recap of the issue on Facebook, along with some progress notes.

“I never would have thought that using my voice would have led to NIKE changing their maternity policy for athletes and I definitely never would have thought it would lead to creating @bysaysh. Keep going and keep speaking up, even if your voice shakes. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support in my journey on the track and now with my company. The outpouring of love has been overwhelming. I’m so full of gratitude,” Felix said. “Please be clear. I used my voice and built this company for you. So that you never have to train at 4:30am while you’re 5 months pregnant to hide your pregnancy from your sponsor. So that you won’t have to fight someone so much bigger than you for a right that should be basic. I took that on for you, and I didn’t do it alone, but it was for you.”

If fighting for other mothers is not enough, Felix joined the launch of the Los Angeles 2028 Athletes’ Commission. It is “comprised of nine Paralympians and nine Olympians” who “will bring essential insights and perspectives to create an inclusive, innovative and seamless experience for all athletes participating in the LA28 Games,” according to website details.

According to Vogue, Felix is “expected to compete in the 400-meter category.” This competition will mark the “record-breaker’s last time competing at the Olympics, and her first time competing as a mother.”

Travis Scott Collaborates with Connected Cannabis to Launch a Weed Product, Cactus Farms

Travis Scott Collaborates with Connected Cannabis to Launch a Weed Product, Cactus Farms

Travis Scott has grown his burgeoning business portfolio with a new partnership with Connected Cannabis.

According to an Instagram post on harvesthoc, the collaboration is named Cactus Farms.

“What do you get when you cross one of the biggest entertainers in the world with the best weed on the planet? Cactus Farms,” it read.

After smoking through more weed than a cannabis sommelier, Travis handpicked his perfect strain for the brand’s initial debut. Powered by Connected, this indica-leaning hybrid has a dense, purple bud structure that smokes with the same experience as sipping a fine wine.

“Launching in both California at Harvest of Venice and all Arizona Harvest locations July 10th (Including AZ Natural Selections). Will you be one of the first to secure the bag? (No online pre-orders | no limit)”

According to Connected Cannabis, the indica-leaning strain “features a dense, purple bud that releases a pungent, funky-sweet gas aroma rounded out by a unique berry twist.”

Scott has been keeping his profile full with his collaborative efforts and the building of his empire. Just last month, the 29-year-old entrepreneurial artist partnered with designer Kim Jones to present Dior’s spring 2022 men’s collection, which was the first time the French fashion house had collaborated with a hip-hop artist. In fact, it’s the first time Dior had partnered with any musician.

Back in April, Travis Scott was working to strengthen his philanthropic arm by providing more fully paid scholarships for students of HBCUs.

“When we did the past scholarships, the freshmen couldn’t even go to campus because of the pandemic. They couldn’t even enjoy the campus life, and their parents probably couldn’t go to work. I just wanted to help,” he said. “The connectivity between that and my grandfather, and helping some of these kids who come from the same community I come from, it’s important. Especially some of these kids that go to HBCUs. My sister goes to Howard University, and my brother goes to Prairie View A&M. A lot of people will get a lot of stuff done if the hardship wasn’t on them. So anytime you can come through and take that burden off their back, it’s amazing.”

‘Blackout’: An Anthology of Black Teen Love, Is Next Up on the Obama’s Netflix Production List

Michelle and Barack Obama will be inviting audiences to reminisce about teenage love.

The couple will be producing a “six-part anthology” Netflix project called “Blackout,” through Higher Ground Banner and Temple Hill, according to Variety. Six stories of Black teenagers who find love during a power outage in New York City will comprise the forthcoming title.

It will not be the Obamas’ last to bring to viewers through the Netflix partnership. In 2021, Netflix announced that Higher Ground Productions –which is the production company founded by the Obamas — would focus” on telling stories that embody the values the Obamas have championed throughout their lives.”

“This group of projects builds upon that goal and the incredible path forged by films like Crip Camp, Becoming, and the Oscar-winning American Factory. From science fiction to the beauty of our natural world to the relationships that define us, Higher Ground continues to strive for fresh perspectives, compelling characters, and a healthy dose of inspiration. We couldn’t be more proud to team up with the brilliant artists behind each of these stories. Each of them has something important to say,” the Obamas said.

“Blackout” —which is a young adult fiction novel geared toward readers 12 and up — was auctioned to “Netflix with Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and Temple Hill Entertainment,” according to The Bookseller. It was acquired through “a nine-way auction by Netflix with Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and Temple Hill Entertainment,” according to The Bookseller.

Stories from the book were penned by Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon, Variety reported.

According to reports, a “Blackout” premiere date has not been announced.

8 Police Officers Involved In Restraining Marvin Scott III Will Not Be Indicted After His Death Ruled A Homicide

8 Police Officers Involved In Restraining Marvin Scott III Will Not Be Indicted After His Death Ruled A Homicide

To be transparent in the investigation of Marvin Scott III’s death, a Black man who died from being restrained while under police custody, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office in Texas released a more than 41-minute video of the encounter.

As BLACK ENTERPRISE previously reported, Scott was placed on a restraining bed and pepper-sprayed while wearing a spit mask designed to prevent a person from spitting on officers.

The video was released two weeks after a grand jury determined it will not be indicting the eight officers involved in restraining Scott, whose death was ruled a homicide, NBC News reported.

The jailhouse video was recorded on March 14 without sound. The faces of the officers are censored intentionally by the department. The lack of audio is due to the camera system not supporting audio recording.

The Dallas News‘ breakdown of what happened reports that Scott was taken out of his jail cell by eight jailers into an adjoining room.

The officers then tried to place Scott onto the bed, which he resisted. The jailers were frustrated, one of whom used a canister of pepper spray to subdue Scott.

The pepper spray managed to calm Scott, who was sitting up while jailers tried to strap down his legs. Scott was seen talking to one of the jailers on his left.

When the jailers pulled Scott down to the bed, he resisted again, this time, with his head hanging off the edge of the bed.

This awkward position triggered jailers to become aggressive with Scott, with one of the jailers grabbing the sides of Scott’s chin and another jailer directing someone outside the room to bring in a spit mask.

The chaos lasted for about 15 minutes as several jailers used their weight to hold Scott down with their knees while he was strapped tightly on the bed.

After jailers realized Scott was no longer moving, nurses were called in to revive him.

The process took about 20 minutes as a jailer and medical personnel tried to pump Scott’s chest manually with their hands and raise both his arms in the air.

First responders used a CPR machine that pumped air into his chest and mouth.

Scott was placed on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, NBC News reported.

Sheriff Jim Skinner wanted to be transparent with the Scott family on how the department treated him.

“As other proceedings are possible or pending, the Sheriff’s Office has no further comment at this time,” Skinner said.

Scott, 26, was arrested that day for possessing less than two ounces of marijuana.

Seven of the eight officers were fired after an internal review was conducted, with the last cop resigning because of the incident. However, one of the terminated officers successfully regained his position in an appeal, and the other five officers who were terminated are having their appeals reviewed, Dallas News reported.

Cartoon Network is adapting an animated short called Battu: An Animated Musical. Oscar winner Matthew A. Cherry of Hair Love fame is developing the animated feature.

Chaz Bottoms’ successful Kickstarter-funded web series about a group of Black teens dancing in Chicago has been greenlit on Cartoon Network, Variety reported.

Hiplet is a fusion of hip-hop and ballet that originated in Chicago and is the basis of the series as viewers get to know teen protagonists Otis, a laidback street hip-hop urchin, and Jada, a plus-sized up-and-coming ballet dancer, in their attempts to find acceptance.

The series, like the Kickstarter, will focus on themes such as courage, self-empowerment, inclusiveness, perseverance, and the power of friendship, Variety reported.

“Battu’ is unlike anything we have ever tried at the studio,” Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, said. “This ambitious project brings together and celebrates two of our greatest storytelling mediums—animation and music. Matthew and Chaz are our perfect dance partners as we strive to tell authentic stories that both empower and entertain.”

“I grew up on a healthy diet of Cartoon Network shows and to be working with them on ‘Battu’ is a dream come true,” Bottoms said. “This project is my love letter to the city of Chicago, animation, and musicals.”

According to IMDb, Bottoms co-directed a short called The Indies: An Animated Short, another Kickstarter-funded film that raised $50,000 and aired on RevoltTV.

The animator has done several productions and collaborations for Springhill, Adult Swim, Steve Harvey Global, John Legend, TBS, Sony Music, Columbia Records, Atlantic Records, Snapchat, Footlocker, and Nike SB.

Cherry, who is known for directing and producing live-action TV shows like Black-ish and movies such as BlacKKKlansman,  is a breakout producer in the animation industry after producing a critically acclaimed short that empowers Black women to love their hair.

“Chaz is one of the most exciting young voices in animation and we are thrilled to be working with Sam Register, Nicole Rivera and the rest of the Cartoon Network Studios team to develop ‘Battu.’” Cherry said.

UK Police Investigating Dozens For Racist Tweets About Black England Soccer Players

UK Police Investigating Dozens For Racist Tweets About Black England Soccer Players

Dozens of people are being investigated and five people have been arrested for tweets about England’s Black soccer players, who missed penalty kicks in England’s 3-2 Euro Final loss to Italy.

The loss means England’s championship drought in the sport will now reach 55 years. After last Sunday’s  match, social media sites Facebook and Twitter were flooded with racist remarks against Black England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.

According to the Daily Mail, three individuals have been publicly identified including a children’s soccer coach. Two other individuals have also been detained. A spokesperson for Twitter said it removed more than 1,000 tweets in the 24 hours before and after the game. However, the Mail reported data analytics company Crisp, said England players face more than 10,000 hate messages aimed directly at them during the course of the tournament.

This isn’t the first time soccer players have had to face hate on social media sites. In April, all Premier League and England’s Soccer Federation conducted a four-day social media blackout to protest “the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football.”

The United Kingdom Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) said a hate crime investigation is underway and Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Wednesday the government was extending the scope of football banning orders to include online abuse. Banning orders can bar individuals from attending matches for between 3 and 10 years.

The UKFPU said as of Tuesday night more than 200 people were arrested in the 24 hour period following the match and more than 600 arrests over the course of the tournament.

Not everyone was upset by the loss. Soccer fans across Scotland celebrated England’s loss posting videos and photos on social media congratulating Italy for the win and for extending England’s losing streak.

England will get another shot to end the drought during next year’s World Cup Tournament in Qatar.

‘He’s Due Millions’: Bill Cosby Wants To Be Compensated For Time Served, Calls for Resignation of Judge And District Attorney

‘He’s Due Millions’: Bill Cosby Wants To Be Compensated For Time Served, Calls for Resignation of Judge And District Attorney

Bill Cosby reportedly wants his coins and is seeking compensation for the time he served in jail, according to NewsNation Now.

According to Cosby’s representative, Andrew Wyatt, “Mr. Cosby was given an unwanted two-year and ten-month vacation that he never asked for. His constitutional rights were abolished, his due process was stripped away from him.”

Wyatt continued, “He’s due millions and millions of dollars.”

Cosby also has an ax to grind with the district attorney and judge on his case and is calling for their immediate removal.

“As Mr. Cosby said to me today, ‘I feel that this district attorney and Judge Steven O’Neill and Kevin Steele [Montgomery County district attorney] should resign effective immediately,” Wyatt said.

Last last month,  Pennsylvania’s highest court, the State Supreme Court, overturned Bill Cosby’s sex assault conviction, citing a previous agreement that prevented him from being charged in the first place.

The 83-year-old served two years of his three to 10-year sentence before walking free.

The disgraced TV star was locked away in a prison near Philadelphia. As previously reported in 2018, Cosby was sentenced to serve three to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting and drugging Andrea Constand at his home in 2004. More than 60 women had accused the actor of sexual misconduct, The Associated Press reported.

Charged in late 2015, a prosecutor armed with newly unsealed evidence was Cosby’s downward spiral as more accusers came forward from Constand’s damaging deposition.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court said the trial’s testimony tarnished the case as more accusers testified their experiences with the famed comedian in the 1980s.

While lower appeals court does allow accusers to express a pattern to identify an ongoing crime, the initial accuser to testify should have never happened, making all other accusers part of a bad act testimony, his attorneys argued.
