Beyoncé !? Kim Burrell Claims Jay Z Called her After Beyoncé Listened to her Music for 11 Hours of Her Music During Relationship ‘Issues’

During hard and/or bad times, certain activities may help us cope. For some people, listening to particular songs or artists can be a great remedy. That includes big-time celebrities adored by the world.

Gospel recording artist Kim Burrell was apparently informed several years ago that a certain Queen played her records to get through a particularly hard time.

On an episode of the podcast We Sound Crazy, Burrell said Jay-Z told her that Beyoncé locked up one day for 11 hours listening to Burrell’s tunes.

While talking to We Sound Crazy hosts, Tamone, Phillionaire, Chuck Harmony, and Claude Kelly, she recalled that back in 2017 the billionaire entrepreneur reached out to inform Burrell that her music helped his wife cope when he was recording his last full-length album, 4:44.

As she mentioned her Mount Rushmore of musicians, Burrell dropped Jay-Z. She admitted that she doesn’t have any of his songs on her playlists, but he’s there because of “his brain.” She then discussed their conversation.

“Jay called me when he put out 4:44,” she told Phillionaire. “At the time I didn’t know that was going to be the name of the record but he called me and he said, ‘Hey when my wife is going through it I always know because I hear you playing in the background.’”

“He says ‘My wife locked up one day for 11 hours and I heard nothing but Kim Burrell for 11 hours.’”

Burrell said he wanted to meet with the person who “made my wife better,” so she she flew out to meet him at the studio he was recording the album. They talked for four-and-a-half hours. She said they discussed things that she will never share.

However, she said her favorite rapper is the person Jay battled at a Brooklyn high school before both became recording artists, Busta Rhymes.

Teyana Taylor and A.V. Rockwell Explain The Triggers Inside ‘A Thousand And One’

Teyana Taylor and writer-director A.V. Rockwell sat down with BLACK ENTERPRISE to discuss their powerful new drama, A Thousand and One, and the generational curses and family trauma that will resonate with some viewers.

The award-winning film follows unapologetic and free-spirited Inez (Taylor), who kidnaps her six-year-old son Terry from the foster care system following her release from Rikers Island. The mother and son hold onto their secret and each other as they navigate life in a rapidly changing New York City from the 1990s to the early 2000s.

The riveting drama won a Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. When it came to her portrayal of Inez, Taylor shared her inspiration and how close the story hit home as a native New Yorker.

“Inez is something for sure,” she tells BLACK ENTERPRISE. “She is a person that is very near and dear to my heart.”

“It was an instant connection with her from the moment I read about who she was and just the audition sides and immediately put myself on tape to do the audition because I just felt an instant connection and I was so excited to be a part of bringing her story to life in front of the lens.”

Rockwell, a fellow New Yorker, has been recognized as a “rising indie filmmaker” with her work being celebrated for its brutal yet poetically humanized depictions of urban life. Like A Thousand and One, Rockwell’s works highlight her distinct way of addressing issues of race, family, identity, and systematic oppression.

Rockwell’s past projects include Feathers, The Gospel, and El Train. The cast in A Thousand and One includes Taylor, Will Catlett, Josiah Cross, Aven Courtney, Aaron Kingsley Adetola. It was produced by Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, Lena Waithe, Rishi Rajani, and Brad Weston, with Oren Moverman, Jamin O’Brien serving as executive producers.

Leslie Jones Reveals she had ‘The Hots’ for Suge Knight While He Was Checking For Her Cousin

She was checking for him while he was checking for somebody else who wasn’t checking for him.

Comedian Leslie Jones previously shared details about her past crush on former record executive Suge Knight, but to her dismay, he was eyeing another woman in her circle.

According to an interview on DJ Whoo Kid’s Whooarmy Live show, Jones was honest and open about her attraction to the co-founder and former CEO of Death Row Records.

“When I went to high school with Suge Knight, first of all, I was in love with him because he looked like one of the DeBarges,” the comedian told DJ Whoo Kid. “So, I was in f**king love with him. He had that long-ass Jheri curl. He was not f**king with me really, but he would be nice to me.”

Jones wasn’t getting any love in return, as Knight had his eyes on her cousin.

“He liked my cousin, and I was so mad,” Jones said. “I didn’t speak to my cousin for a month because Suge liked her. And I was like, ‘That’s f**cked up. You know I was in love with him. Why would you take him from me?’ And she was like, ‘B***h, I literally don’t want him. I don’t wanna f**k with him! Are you stupid?’”

Jones recalled an unforgettable interaction with Knight when he played on the football team, and she was a teacher’s aide for the football coach.

“One day, he came in there, smiled, and winked at me, and I thought I was gonna have a motherf**king conniption,” she said, adding that he was also a big bully.

Jones’ fans are never caught off guard as she has always been a straight shooter, vocalizing her thoughts.

The comedian hit ESPN sports analyst Stephen A. Smith with a diss to his hairline after he criticized Rihanna ahead of her 2023 Super Bowl halftime performance. After he stated the pop star was no Beyoncé, Jones swooped in. “You know what, Stephen A. Smith? You need to act like your hairline and back the f**k off!” she said.

50 Cent Blasts Viviva Fox’ ‘First Lady of BMF’ Movie, ‘I’m Done With All of You!’

It’s been nearly 20 years since 50 Cent and Vivica A. Fox enjoyed a short-lived romance that turned sour, and the former lovers are still battling it out.

50, real name Curtis Jackson, took to Instagram on Thursday night to blast his ex-girlfriend for seemingly entering his terrain by working on a film that follows the story of the Black Mafia Family (BMF). The Starz BMF show creator posted a promotional poster for Fox’s upcoming movie, First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story.

“This should say 263 not BMF, @southwest263 🤷🏽‍♂️What the fvck is this man !” 50 captioned his post.

“☕️🐸 Vivica ugh, So your not gonna ever leave me alone hun? 👀and what the fvck is judge Mathis doing in this mix😳 I’m done, Im done with all of you ni66as. LOL”

The new movie was greenlit by BET+ earlier this month, Deadline reports. Fox serves as the film’s director, with Tressa Azarel Smallwood and Judge Greg Mathis listed as executive producers alongside Donte Lee and Delece James.

The biopic was inspired by the true life of Detroit’s Tonesa Welch, whose story was chronicled in the BET + series American Gangster: Trap Queens. It follows Welch’s journey from a teen mom to a drug dealer who federal prosecutors labeled as “The First Lady of BMF.”

Welch’s story is set in Detroit’s crack era and America’s “war on drugs.” But key aspects of her life serve as a main storyline in Season 2 of 50 Cent’s hit Starz series BMF with LaLa Anthony portraying the character inspired by Welch, MarKaisha Taylor.

While the new production could help increase viewership of 50 Cent’s series, the G-Unit founder seemingly sees the new project as his completion. Starz BMF premiered in 2021 and recently wrapped its second season, which received 4.1 million multiplatform viewers during its season 2 debut.

Production on The First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story is set to kick off in April in Washington, D.C., with the movie expected to debut on BET+ later this year.

Carl Crawford Crowns Megan Thee Stallion As ‘Iconic’ After Their Intense Legal Battle

1501 Certified Entertainment CEO Carl Crawford is singing a new tune despite his ongoing legal battle with Megan Thee Stallion. After calling a truce earlier this year, Crawford hailed his former artist as “iconic.”

On Thursday, Crawford posted an official statement welcoming Megan back to Houston ahead of her throwing the first pitch at the Houston Astros game and headlining the AT&T Block Party as part of the 2023 NCAA March Madness Music Festival.

“This Friday, 3/31/2023, the Queen of the Hotties and one of the most iconic female artists of our time will be touching down,” he wrote.

“We want the entire Community of Texas to help 1501 Certified Entertainment welcome Queen of the Hotties, Megan Thee Stallion, back to the City of Houston.”

After promoting Megan’s upcoming performance at Houston’s Discovery Park, he boasted about how amazing her stage set will be.

“IF YOU THINK YOU SAW MEG PERFORM BEFORE, THINK AGAIN! Wait till you see her tear down the stage on Friday as she’s gearing up for this New ALBUM, New WORLD TOUR, and New MOTION!” he quipped.

“We look forward to continuing to support our 1501 artist, Megan Thee Stallion, in all of her future endeavors,” Crawford continued before teasing her new projects.

“The 1501 staff is dedicated to a successful and exciting launch of this new project! We would like all of our 1501 supporters to join us in fully welcoming Megan Thee Stallion back home to Texas!” he wrote.

The former MLB player-turned-record-label-honcho concluded his open letter by extending his “full support” to Megan and her Hottie fan club.

“Megan and the Hotties have our full support as we move into this HOT GIRL SPRING & SUMMER 2.0.” he said.

Crawford’s post comes after he officially ended their feud in February and admitted to fueling the drama with his social media antics, TMZ reports.

Megan remains locked in a legal war over a contract dispute with 1501. In December, a Texas judge sided with Megan and declined the record label’s request to claim her  2021 project “Something for Thee Hotties” did not count as an album within her contract terms via Rolling Stone.

Crawford’s latest statement seemingly shows his dedication to making things right with his estranged artist.

Report: ‘The Bachelor’ Creator Left Hit Show After Racial Discrimination Revealed in Investigation

Report: ‘The Bachelor’ Creator Left Hit Show After Racial Discrimination Revealed in Investigation

Racism ruins everything, doesn’t it?

Well, it seems the fun for The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss ended due after an investigation into racial discrimination was conducted by Warner Bros. TV, who produces the mega-franchise alongside ABC.

When it was announced a few days ago that Fleiss would be stepping away from the show he created over 20 years ago, the split seemed amicable and simply part of a life transition.

“First and foremost, congratulations are in order for Zach and Kaity. I wish them a long and happy life together,” he said. “I want to thank WBTV and ABC for 21 extraordinary years. They’ve found the perfect creative team for me to entrust The Bachelor franchise and keep this lightning in a bottle bold and moving forward. Let the journey continue.”

But as it turns out, the 58-year-old producer and writer, is leaving a trail of unsavory behavior behind him.

According to Variety, current producers on the show, as well as former production staffers complained about Fleiss’ “bullying” practices as well as his apprehension to improving the show’s diversity over the past two decades.

“People said he would retaliate against people for having minorities and Black people on the show. He favored certain people over other people,” said an individual familiar with the investigation. “He would say, ‘Minorities don’t get ratings.’”

Fleiss responded to Variety’s request for comment via email:

“I had no idea back in 2002 that we were building a pop culture juggernaut. It was a crazy idea then and sure as hell continues to roll—just look at every network and streamer that has ripped us off! Since its premiere 21 years ago, times have certainly changed and I’d have to say we didn’t keep up with the pace of those changes,” Fleiss said. “I am proud of the work we’ve done over the past five years to make the show substantially more diverse, but I do believe I could have done more. Hopefully, the franchise will continue to move in the right direction. Judging by the number of staff weddings we’ve hosted at our home and the number of teary messages that blew up my phone when I announced I had turned in my final rose, I’m pretty sure I had more good days than bad, lifted more spirits than hurt feelings and leave the franchise in good hands, with more friends than foe.”

Though he will have zero connection to the show going forward Fleiss will still be credited as the show’s creator.

Over the years The Bachelor has faced criticism for a lack of diversity. In fact, the show’s first (and still only) Black lead came in 2021, when Matt James signed up to find his true love, almost 20 years after the show first aired.

The spinoff The Bachelorette has had four Black leads since its first season aired two decades ago.

Whew, chile.

Bug-a-Boo: Man Faces 5-Year Prison Sentence After Calling Ex 800 Times In Two Days

Bug-a-Boo: Man Faces 5-Year Prison Sentence After Calling Ex 800 Times In Two Days

Before you decide to blow up the phone of your ex or current partner, you may want to think twice.

A Hagerstown, Maryland, man learned that less is best when it’s time to move on. Forty-four-year-old Derik Wayne Bowyers has been charged with one count of stalking by a Martinsburg federal grand jury. The charges come after Bowyers harassed his ex-girlfriend through online messages, texts, and phone calls in December 2022. At one point, he tried to call her 815 times in just 48 hours. He also used public bullying in the form of social media posts to harass her.

“Cyberstalking is a pervasive problem that we treat very seriously in West Virginia,” said United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld. “I encourage those who are being intimidated online and who suffer substantial emotional distress as a result to file a police report so that wrongdoers may be investigated and held to account.” If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

The rules on what constitutes harassment have been looked at closely, with cyberstalking becoming increasingly prevalent along with “revenge porn, which is now considered a first-degree misdemeanor carrying a $1,000 fine and a 6-month jail sentence. Many people have started to hit back at their online stalkers by getting the law involved. Recently, BBC presenter Alexis Green pressed charges against 55-year-old Timothy O’Brien, who sent her over 100 messages on Facebook between December and January. She said that he sent her explicit images and videos, along with propositions for sex, relentlessly. Celebrities like Rihanna and the daughter of late basketball great Kobe Bryant, Natalia Bryant, have come face to face with their stalkers in recent months, proving that all threats should be taken seriously, even those that take place, primarily behind phone screens.

Y’all better leave people alone!

Udonis Haslem, miami heat

Udonis Haslem States That LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh Took Lower Salaries to Help Keep Him On The Miami Heat

Udonis Haslem, who won three championships with the only team he has ever played for in the NBA, is nearing the end of his career with the Miami Heat. On a recent podcast, he recalls how three superstar teammates took a reduction in salary so he could stay on the team.

Earlier this week, Haslem appeared on The Pivot podcast with the three former NFL players who co-host the program, Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor, and Ryan Clark. He told them that when LeBron James and Chris Bosh made a concerted effort to join forces with Dwyane Wade on the Miami Heat, he knew he would have to look for employment elsewhere to make room for Miami’s “Big 3.”

As his 20-year run with the Heat is coming to a close, he met with the guys on The Pivot and discussed how he managed to remain on the basketball team.

Knowing that the combined salaries of James, Bosh, and Wade would make it impossible for him to earn what he could be making, Haslem was ready to exit from the team he had been a part of since 2003. In 2010, as a free agent, he witnessed the press conference introducing the new duo along with Wade and thought his time with the team was done.

He recalled thinking, “Oh s**t, I’m out of here because I know how the numbers worked; I know how the money worked. I know what those guys’ values was; I know they worth at the time. And I’m thinking, ‘OK, it’s time to move on.’”

He had already determined he would be on another team the following season until his agent called him up as he prepared to head to the stadium. He had an offer for a contract worth $35 million. He was told that, although the offer given initially would be less, he was offered the chance to stay on the team for $20 million. That was due to the Big 3 taking less than they could have made so that he could still stay on the team, albeit for less.

“But the fact that Bron, CB, and D-Wade all collabed to take less money to make that $20 [million] available for me, it said enough because they didn’t have to do that,” Haslem said. “Dwyane understood. Bron and CB don’t know me from a can of paint. They ain’t ever played with me; they don’t know nothing about me,” he continued. “But the fact that they was able to say, ‘OK, cool. We need him. We need him to win.’ That let me know I got to get them boys they money worth.”

That is when he knew he had to do his part to bring the championship back home to Miami.

Actor Ernie Hudson Shares His Connection to the Disabled Community

Ernie Hudson is happy to still be a part of Ghostbusters, but he’s thankful his career isn’t dependent on it.

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the 77-year-old actor, best known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, recalled his momentous career experiences on both the big screen and small screen.

“I can’t think of any other movie I’ve gotten because I was in Ghostbusters,” Hudson said before discussing his latest role in Bobby Farrelly‘s sports comedy film, Champions, where he plays basketball coach Phil Perretti. After landing the role, the actor was excited to reconnect with Woody Harrelson, whom he worked with in the 1994 comedy, The Cowboy Way.

“It’s kind of odd, because every time I do a TV show, I feel like I’m the guy just starting out,” Hudson said. “But on this show, I’m clearly the old guy! I’m the senior citizen who gets to play with these kids—or, at least, they seem like kids to me. I also referred to the cast of Champions as kids, and I was corrected. They’re not kids, they’re young adults.”

Hudson also shared his connection to the disabled community.

“I had [a] friend with a daughter who had disability issues and they put her in a home when she was two or three years old,” he recalled. “There was a way of trying to hide [disabled] people when I was growing up. So when I read the script for Champions, I loved the fact that it showed this community. These young actors in the movie are amazing, and I hope it opens the door to them getting more work.”

Hudson is also a main cast member on BET’s series Carl Weber’s The Family Business.

“Doing network TV can be a big commitment,” he said. He has starred in primetime shows, including The Last Precinct, Broken Badges, Meteor, and APB. He’s also a regular on the reboot of Quantum Leap.

“At this stage in the game for me, it’s always about asking, ‘Do I want to sign up for something if I’m not going to enjoy it?,'” he said. “I want to like the people I’m working with and I want to enjoy the location. Quantum Leap is a really fun group of people who make it fun to go to work.”

Florida Judge Rules For Meghan Markle, Dismisses Sister’s Lawsuit

Florida Judge Rules For Meghan Markle, Dismisses Sister’s Lawsuit

A Florida judge has struck its gavel in favor of Meghan Markle to have her half-sister’s defamation lawsuit against her dismissed.

On Thursday, Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell approved for Markle’s “desired judicial notice for a motion to dismiss” the lawsuit that claims the royal fabricated her “rags to royalty” life story, Newsweek reported.

Following Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Samantha Markle blasted Markle in a lawsuit for spreading lies in her interview in order to paint a narrative of being victimized by her leeching family members. Samantha Markle also pointed out how Meghan Markle referred to herself as an “only child” during the interview despite the half-sisters sharing the same father, Thomas Markle.

In the suit, the Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister author also claimed that Meghan Markle lied when she said the last time she saw her sister was “at least 18, 19 years ago and before that, 10 years before that.” Meghan Markle also got blasted for lying when she insinuated that Samantha Markle only changed her surname to Markle after Meghan started dating Prince Harry.

“This baseless and absurd lawsuit is just a continuation of a pattern of disturbing behavior,” Meghan Markle’s attorney Michael Kump said in a statement, per TMZ. “We will give it the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves.”

In a deferred judgment, Honeywell backed Markle’s defense that she gave her “opinion” during her interview with Winfrey and that she did not pen Finding Freedom, which told, “the first, epic and true story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life together.” The undisputed authors of the book are Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, not the duchess.

“Thus, the court finds that defendant’s statement is not objectively verifiable or subject to empirical proof…. plaintiff cannot plausibly disprove defendant’s opinion of her own childhood,” Honeywell wrote in court papers, according to BBC.

The judge denied Meghan Markle’s request for damages, which would have required Samantha Markle to cover her sister’s legal fees.

In addition, Samantha Markle gets another opportunity to present her case again over the Oprah interview comments.
