Meagan Good Shares Desire to Star in Eartha Kitt Biopic, ‘I Identify With A Lot of Her Ideals’

Meagan Good desires to play the late great Eartha Kitt in a biopic. Her reasoning might highlight how the Harlem star feels about relationships after her divorce from Devon Franklin.

Good appeared on SiriusXM Urban View’s The Clay Cane Show, opening up about her dream role to play Kitt in a biopic.

“I loved how she [Eartha Kitt] said, ‘Compromise, compromise for what? For what? For who?’” Good said, referencing an old interview clip of Kitt that has made its rounds on social media.

The saying and mindset resonate with the Think Like A Man star as she believes “compromise” is a natural part of a relationship with someone who “genuinely loves you.”

“I get that because to me, I just feel like when someone genuinely loves you – I think compromise is a natural thing,” Good explained.

“But I don’t think it’s something that you should be asked to do. I think it should be an authentic thing that you want to do that is not expected of you. It just happens naturally.”

“I’m a big believer of just letting people be exactly who they are, the fullness of their authenticity,” she continued. “I think that’s because that’s what I desire as well, but I think everybody deserves that. And so I really identify with a lot of Eartha Kitt’s ideals.”

Good and Franklin finalized their divorce in June 2022 after nearly 10 years of marriage, Us Weekly reports. Both stars have remained mum about the cause of the split while subtly referencing their divorce in interviews and appearances.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself,” she shared during the Jan. 24 episode of The View. “I’ve rediscovered myself in a lot of ways.”

In the SiriusXM interview, Good also opened up about her past desires to play Aaliyah and Whitney Houston in film biopics. She also touched on the possibility of a sequel to the 1997 film Eve’s Bayou, saying she and co-star Jurnee Smollet have discussed it.

“We’ve talked about it a lot. But I think sometimes when something is so special, I don’t know if it’s a good idea to touch it,” Good said. “But that would be up to Miss Kasi [Lemmons]. If she ever said she wanted to do it, I think all of us would jump on board.”

NBA superstar Steph Curry is adding artificial intelligence to his résumé.

According to a press release, the Golden State Warriors point guard is working with Simplicity to connect residents with their cities. Simplicity is a leading AI-driven platform that is making noise in Silicon Valley. The startup allows people to find all city services, updates, and events, all in one place. With the core mission of the platform being “to help the city administration improve the residents’ quality of life,” Curry felt it was a great fit. “I’m thrilled to join forces with the Simplicity team and support the company’s mission of enhancing our cities and streamlining the way we receive information,” Curry said.

“Technology is a powerful connector, and Simplicity is leading the charge in using it to make daily life easier for our communities.”

Naomi Osaka Poses for New Collection With Victoria’s Secret

The $3 billion lingerie company called on this athlete to make history.

Japanese tennis champion Naomi Osaka has partnered with Victoria’s Secret on a new design collaboration.

According to Boardroom, the new partnership deemed Osaka Victoria’s Secret’s first individual collaborator in its 45-year history.

Osaka recently posted the announcement to her Instagram page earlier this week through a carousel of photos featuring a variety of sets, all created out of recycled material.

“So honored to present to you the Naomi x @victoriassecret collection,” Osaka wrote in the caption.”

“I was shocked to hear this but apparently I’m the first person to ever collaborate with Victoria’s Secret on a collection and I’m so humbled and appreciative. Every piece in the collection is made out of recyclable material and the whole premise of the collection centers around chasing your dreams so I hope you enjoy everything as much as I do,” she continued.

Reportedly, Osaka is expected to receive royalties from the collection.

“When Naomi first met VS, she told them that she loved going to the stores as a kid with her mom, but there was no one on the walls that looked like her,” said Stuart Duguid, Evolve co-founder, and Osaka’s agent. “She found it very inaccessible. Now they’ve revamped that model, and the business is headed in a different direction with different leadership.”

Announcements are coming back-to-back for the 25-year-old, four-time Grand Slam singles champion.

As previously reported by BLACK ENTERPRISE, Osaka revealed that she is preparing to enter the world of motherhood. The superstar athlete posted about her pregnancy on Twitter with a message to her followers alongside a photo of her sonogram.

“The past few years have been interesting, to say the least, but I find that it’s the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun,” she said in a statement.

The Victoria’s Secret x Naomi Osaka collection is available online and will be featured in flagship stores.

Quavo Says Migos Is ‘Gone’ in New Song Tribute to Takeoff, ‘It Can’t Come Back’

Quavo released his latest musical tribute to his late nephew, Takeoff, where he also confirmed the end of their platinum-selling rap group, Migos.

On Wednesday, Quavo returned to the music scene with his new single “Greatness,” People reports. The song serves as an homage to Qauvo’s nephew and Migos group member Takeoff, who was fatally shot in Houston on Nov. 1, 2022.

In the single, Quavo raps that Migos is “gone” in the wake of Takeoff’s death.

“Came in, swept the game like a storm with the motherf—ing flow, n—-, Take’ did that,” Quavo raps while crediting Takeoff for creating Migos’ signature rap style.

“So don’t ask about the group, he gone, we gone, young n—-, it can’t come back.”

The song release comes after reports of Quavo and Offset getting into a physical altercation backstage at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, TMZ reports. According to insiders, the fight started just before Quavo hit the stage to perform his tribute to Takeoff “Without You” during the “In Memoriam” segment of the show.

Apparently, Offset wanted to join Quavo on stage and was asked to by The Grammys. However, Quavo blocked him from appearing on stage, which set off the fight.

The drama and musical tributes come after Takeoff, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot outside of a bowling alley in Houston, just one month after he and Quavo released their collaborative album, “Only Built for Infinity Links.”

There were already clear signs of a divide in the rap trio befire Takeoff’s death, but the tension took new heights in the wake of his passing.

Fans have been reacting to Quavo’s latest lyrics about Migos being over and are begging the rapper to make peace with his cousin and group member Offset.

“You and Set need to make peace and music for Take,” one fan wrote.

“@QuavoStuntin Please make up with @OffsetYRN You 2 need to be holding it down for Take please🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💔,” added another.

Rachael Dolezal 2.0? Mother of Muslim Activist Claiming to Be Woman of Color Says Her Daughter Is Really White

Rachael Dolezal 2.0? Mother of Muslim Activist Claiming to Be Woman of Color Says Her Daughter Is Really White

A Muslim activist who identifies as Latina, South Asian, and Arab is a white woman of British, German, and Italian descent, according to her own mother.

Raquel Evita Saraswati serves as the chief equity, inclusion, and culture officer for the American Friends Service Committee, a progressive activist group known for its social justice advocacy in the U.S. and abroad. But according to Saraswati’s birth mother, Carol Perone, Saraswati was born Rachel Elizabeth Seidel and isn’t the woman of color she presents as.

“I call her Rachel,” Perone told The Intercept. “I don’t know why she’s doing what she’s doing.”

Perone also shared photos of Saraswati as a child to prove her daughter is white and not biracial, as she claims.

“I’m as white as the driven snow and so is she,” Perone said.

In the photos her mother asked not to be published, Saraswati’s skin appears lighter than the bronzed look she sports today. Perone also shared her Ancestry.com results and a photo of her daughter’s deceased father.

Another family member of the Muslim activist also confirmed that Saraswati is white.

“I’m German and British, and her father was Calabrese Italian,” Perone added. “She’s chosen to live a lie, and I find that very, very sad.”

Perone says her daughter converted to Islam in high school and somehow, over time, decided she wanted to be a different ethnic identity. Oskar Pierre Castro is a human resources professional who participated in Saraswati’s hiring at the company.

He claims Saraswati presented herself as a “queer, Muslim, multiethnic woman.” The situation is similar to that of Rachel Dolezal, who presented herself as African American when securing a leadership role with the NAACP, only to be later identified as a white woman.

“In my mind, it was, ‘Great, a person of color, a queer person of color, who happens to be a Muslim, it’s a woman, all these things, and someone who seemed to get it. I definitely feel conned. … I feel deceived,” he shared.

Saraswati has yet to address the allegations, but the AFSC released a statement acknowledging the claims.

“AFSC has given Raquel the opportunity to address the allegations against her, and Raquel stands by her identity,” the statement read.

“Raquel also assures us that she remains loyal to AFSC’s mission, which we firmly believe.” The statement added that “AFSC does not require any employee to ‘prove’ their heritage as a condition of their employment, or in order to be valued as a member of our team.”

Are We Surprised? White Woman Calls Police on Black Men For Shoveling Snow

Are We Surprised? White Woman Calls Police on Black Men For Shoveling Snow

A TikTok video is spreading on the ‘Net of a white woman calling the police on two Black men who decided to shovel snow off the sidewalk. In a video posted by Gregory McAdory, the white woman can be seen shoveling snow back onto the sidewalk, apparently taking issue with the two Black snow shovelers who were being neighborly.

“Are you seriously mad we cleaned off your sidewalk?” one of the men asks in the video. What are you calling the police for?” one of the men asks.

“That’s trespassing property,” the woman replies before telling the police dispatcher that the Black men were recording her, making fun of her, and having no respect.

After she’s done calling the cops, the woman goes back to knocking snow back onto the sidewalk.

“She not being harmed mentally, physically, or emotionally. She’s just upset at the fact we did the sideway,” McAdory states.

The video also shows two police officers arriving to speak with the two Black men. According to the friend, this wasn’t the first time she’s dialed 911 on them for shoveling snow. One of the officers even said she’s spoken with the friend before.

“I’m tired of the bulls**t. I did nothing. I helped her out,” the friend rants. “What crime did we commit? She didn’t even state what we did.”

When officers asked them what to do about the situation before speaking with the woman, he said he’ll give her a second chance but vowed to press charges the next time it happened.

Recently, a white woman, Jennifer Kaye Holder, was arrested for spraying an extinguisher on people at an Atlanta airport. Holder was charged with obstructing law enforcement officers, two counts of simple assault, and three counts of simple battery.

Racist Trolls Are At It Again: Halle Bailey Defends Her Role as Ariel

Either the trolls are going to be a part of this world, or not.

Following the release of another trailer for Disney’s live-action movie The Little Mermaid, singer and actress Halle Bailey, who is set to debut in the leading role as Ariel, faced a new outpouring of backlash from racist trolls.

In a recent cover story interview with The Face, Bailey addressed the frenzy and shared her perspective on the critics.

“As a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore,” Bailey told the outlet. ”When [Chlöe and I] first signed to Parkwood, [Beyoncé] was always like: ’I never read my comments. Don’t ever read the comments.’ Honestly, when the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity.”

“I know people are like: ’It’s not about race.’ But now that I’m her…People don’t understand that when you’re Black there’s this whole other community,” she added. “It’s so important for us to see ourselves.”

As previously reported by BLACK ENTERPRISE, the first trailer dropped for the movie last year, accumulating racist trolls who had an opinion about the casting decision. Bailey decided to block out all negativity and focus on the positive, including all the Black girls who expressed their excitement to see her as Ariel.

“People have been sending these reactions to me all weekend and I’m truly in awe,” Bailey wrote on Twitter at the time. “This means the world to me.”

In a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall said after auditioning every ethnicity for the role, Bailey was the best match, adding that there was no hidden agenda behind the casting.

“We just were looking for the best actor for the role, period. The end,” Marshall said. “We saw everybody and every ethnicity. [The goal was to find someone who can be] incredibly strong, passionate, beautiful, smart, clever [and with] a great deal of fire and joy.”

Rihanna to Perform ‘Lift Me Up’ At 2023 Academy Awards

Rihanna is back in full force. Just on the heels of headlining the most-watched halftime show in Super Bowl history, the pregnant superstar is slated to perform at the 2023 Academy Awards.

The “Diamonds” singer is set to perform her Oscar-nominated single “Lift Me Up” from Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” at the March 12 awards show CNN reports. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Rihanna’s performance on Thursday.

Rihanna’s “Life Me Up” is nominated for Best Original Song and will be competing against Diane Warren’s “Applause” from “Tell it Like a Woman”, Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR” and David Byrne’s “This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

It’s the first Oscar nomination for Rihanna who co-wrote “Lift Me Up” with Tems, Ludwig Göransson, and the film’s director Ryan Coogler. It could be a big night for the “Black Panther” sequel as it’s nominated for five Academy Awards including Angela Bassett’s history-making nomination as the first-ever acting nomination for a Marvel film.

If Bassett secures the win, it would be her first Academy Award following her still-debated snub in 1994 for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the singer’s 1993 biopic “What’s Love Got to Do With It?”

Rihanna’s Oscar performance will come less than a month after her record-breaking halftime performance that raked in nearly six million more viewers than the Super Bowl itself. The “Umbrella” singer confirmed her second pregnancy during the performance by coming out with a visible baby bump.

Prior to the halftime show, Rihanna credited her nine-month-old son, whose name has still not been revealed, for motivating her to return to the stage after a four-year hiatus.

“When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world — you can do anything,” she said during a press conference.

The 2023 Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, March 12 at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST.

Save the Edges: Black Women Turn to Botox as a Way to Stop the Sweat

Save the Edges: Black Women Turn to Botox as a Way to Stop the Sweat

Black women are known for creating fashion and beauty trends, but some trends they slowly have to gravitate towards.

Like Botox. An article from The Washington Post stated that more and more Black women are taking part in the procedure to help a very important part of their body – edges. One woman told her story of how botox saved her edges that were constantly ruined by sweat glands and product overuse. Shanese Francis got tired of sweating out her edges after using everything from gel to hairspray in the beauty supply store. After doing some research, she decided botox was the best way to go. “It was the best $400 I’ve ever spent. It really was life-changing,” Francis said.

“I felt relieved and was definitely more comfortable in my own skin.”

The procedure allows small needles to be directly injected in the perimeter of the forehead. While needles may be scary to some, nurses like Jill Horne, say the pain isn’t bad. “The needles are so small that you barely feel them, and it takes five to 10 minutes,” Horne said. “You just feel little pricks.”

Botox has been around for years and generally popular to temporarily reduce wrinkles in the face. However, using the treatment to reduce sweating isn’t uncommon. The Post claimed many patients use it to prevent sweating in the hands or underarms. The practice can definitely help Black women save money. A study from 2022 showed Black people spent over $2 billion on haircare products.

Some experts are critical on Botox and other plastic surgery procedures regarding Black women. Blaming social media’s obsession with the “clean aesthetic,” dermatologists, like Alpana Mohta, are concerned with African American women entertaining the status quo. “Some critics argue that the trend reinforces the pressure on Black women to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards and reinforces the idea that natural hairstyles are not acceptable,” Mohta said. However, for decades, Black women, such as Josephine Baker, have shown the art in styling their hair – edges included.
