Tampa Bay Police Department Issues Arrest Warrant For Antonio Brown

The Tampa Bay Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for Buccaneers player Antonio Brown. Brown was allegedly involved in a domestic battery incident and is wanted for a battery charge.

“On November 28, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect and victim were involved in a verbal altercation at a home in South Tampa. At some point later on, the argument turned physical, after the suspect threw a shoe at the victim. The suspect also attempted to evict the victim from the residence and locked her out of the home,” according to Tampa.gov.

“The suspect, Antonio Brown, 34, is wanted for battery. There is a court-authorized warrant for his arrest.”

The Tampa Bay Times reported that the Tampa Bay Police Department requested a risk protection order against Brown earlier this week, but a judge denied it on Tuesday, according to court records. Brown has four children with the woman he allegedly threw out of the home. One of Brown’s sons, who he shares with another woman, also lives at the residence.

Police officials stated that Brown was upset that his children’s mother came back late from a holiday vacation with their kids, which caused the children to miss a day from school. His anger caused him to dump out the contents of her purse when he began screaming at her. She said she went outside of the home and he followed her and threw a shoe at her.

After she came back to the house, she noticed many of her items had been thrown out into the street. She told police officers that Brown threatened to shoot her if she tried to come back into the residence.

According to a report by WFTS-TV, when police arrived at the house, Brown was still inside and refused to leave the residence. He reportedly was in possession of a gun and rifle, according to his children’s mother.

Police officers were outside the home for an hour trying to persuade Brown to come out, but police said late Thursday that the former NFL player was not yet in custody.

Police spokesperson Merissa Lynn said he was “not communicating with officers, so it’s unclear if he’s still inside the home or not.”

A$AP Rocky Launches HOMMEMADE, a New Furniture Design Studio

On Thursday, rapper A$AP Rocky formally announced the launch of a new design studio, HOMMEMADE, in collaboration with the Italian brand, Gufram.

According to Complex, the rapper founded the design space, categorizing it as a furniture design studio.

“I’m proud to present to you my new décor line,” Rocky said in an Instagram post where he shared photos of the studio’s first project with his followers.

The new home décor line is represented by a giant mushroom-infused cactus, which is currently on display at Art Miami, where visitors can walk through the mushroom forest installed on the grass-like carpet.

According to Architectural DigestRocky’s experiences with hallucinogenic drugs potentially inspired his first design. The rapper detailed one of his experiences with mushrooms, where he drove down the street laughing for no reason and went back to the studio with a bunch of “random people” in an interview with Billboard for a 2015 cover shoot. Rocky even told the person interviewing him, “You need to smoke some weed. You don’t smoke weed enough. I can tell.”

The design reflects a bright green utopian forest with the oversized shroom cactus in the center.

“From mid-century modifications, to contemporary collaborations, they [Gufram] have established themselves as a unique brand and therefore a perfect brand collaborator,” Rocky said. “This is the first collaboration from my HOMMEMADE décor studio and since I’ve always advocated for mushrooms it was only right that we made a cactus with them.”

Plans for HOMMEMADE have not yet been released publicly. However, according to reports, future releases will see the studio continuing to “push the boundaries of the home décor space.”

Black Leaders Team Up to Fight Food Insecurity with New Supermarkets In Buffalo, NY

Black Leaders Team Up to Fight Food Insecurity with New Supermarkets In Buffalo, NY

Black leaders in Buffalo, NY, are teaming up to build food markets to address the food insecurity the city has recently faced.

NBC News reported what once thrived as a prosperous town in the historic Fruit Belt neighborhood on Buffalo’s East Side now consists of abandoned homes with broken steps and “no trespassing” signs.

The area is also reportedly filled with overgrown, empty lots and a lack of grocery stores for its residents.

According to NBC News, the only supermarket on the East Side of town is Tops,  which faced tragedy in May when a gunman entered and killed 10 Black residents.

The incident brought national attention to the Buffalo community, highlighting not only the devastation of the violent event, but also the town’s need for more access to fresh produce.

NBC News reported that the issue has remained a problem for more than six months since the tragic incident, according to local resident Alex Wright, the founder of the African Heritage Food Co-op.

The organization has reportedly teamed up with groups like Buffalo’s Black Billion and Neu Water & Associates to build supermarkets, grow gardens, and invest in providing fresh-grown produce to Buffalo’s East Side residents and beyond.

“It’s about gainful employment,” Wright told NBC News in October, regarding his future grocery store. “We want our employees to be able to go on vacation. We want them to be able to put their kids in tutoring and to go and get the car they can afford and to put the down payment on the house they would like. We want them to have careers.”

According to a 2021 report by the University of Buffalo, a major problem is land banking – when private or public organizations hold land for future development – which has made it more difficult for underserved Black communities.

The report added that community members fought for years before the Tops on Jefferson Avenue was finally built in 2003.

Angela Bassett to Be Honored For Her ‘Illustrious Career’ At Santa Barbara Film Festival

Variety reports that Angela Bassett is receiving her flowers as she prepares to be honored with the Montecito Award at the 38th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The veteran film star is attending the Feb. 9 event where she will discuss her career from the start to her latest scene-snatching appearance in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The award comes as many speculate if Bassett, 64, will become the first Marvel star to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther saga.

“Ms. Bassett has had an illustrious career as an actor, director and producer and in ‘Wakanda Forever’ reminds us why she’s so greatly revered,” SBIFF’s Executive Director Roger Durling said.

“She’s regal, fierce and commanding as Queen Ramonda. We bow down.”

For years, the Black community has debated why Bassett, who has amazed audiences with performances in films like Malcolm X, Boyz N The Hood, Waiting to Exhale, and What’s Love Got To Do With It? has yet to receive an Oscar. While her performance as Tina Turner garnered her a nomination in 1994, she ultimately lost to Holly Hunter that year for her role in The Piano.

During a 2018 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Bassett agreed with one fan who said she was “robbed” of the award,” as noted by People.

“Yeah, me too,” Bassett said with a laugh.

“Good, I agree,” Cohen added.

In 2016, she opened up about attending the 1994 Oscars in hopes of winning the big award.

“I remember stopping all liquids at 2 o’clock because I didn’t want to miss a moment,” she told ABC News.

“I did not want to have to go the restroom. That was the era of big ballgowns because, you know, you felt like a princess.”

“And I did not want to have to manage all of that in a stall at the Oscars and miss my category. Isn’t that funny when that happens to people: ‘I was in the bathroom’?”

Her Tina Turner role did garner her a 1994 Golden Globe for Best Actress. In 2019, Bassett received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for Black Panther.

Big Ballin’: NBA Star Stephen Curry Sells San Francisco Mansion For $31.2 Million

Big Ballin’: NBA Star Stephen Curry Sells San Francisco Mansion For $31.2 Million

NBA superstar Stephen Curry has scored big off the court after the massive sale of his San Francisco Bay area mansion for $31.2 million, according to records.

According to Dirt, the four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors quietly sold his 7,535-square foot mansion in 2021 in the Silicon Valley area of Atherton.

The property features four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and areas built by San Francisco developer Joe Comartin of Woodlane Properties, with design features done by Ken Linsteadt Architects.

When an athlete sells their home, fans often speculate that a trade will follow. However, Sports Illustrated reported that a trade is not anticipated, according to sources.

Curry reportedly sold the estate for about $150,000 more than he paid a little over three years ago.

Dirt reports that the off-market buyer and new owner is Singapore-based billionaire Forrest Li, according to records.

Li, who is China-born, is a Stanford University MBA graduate and the founder, chairman, and CEO of Singapore-based Sea.

According to the company’s website, Sea is a global consumer internet company that also operates in the spaces of digital entertainment (video game) e-commerce, and digital financial services.

The company is well known for its successful Free Fire title, a popular mobile battle royale game, and its Shopee platform, Dirt reported.

Li, who once was reportedly Singapore’s richest man, experienced one of his biggest loses in the tech market crash earlier this year.

According to Bloomberg, Li lost nearly $18 billion of his net worth, but still remains one of China’s wealthiest businessmen, with a reported net worth of around $3 billion.

Dirt reports that the NBA superstar and his entrepreneur wife, Ayesha Curry, have not yet purchased another primary residence in California.

But the couple have reportedly purchased a vacation home in Florida near Orlando.

HP’s Black CIO Ron Guerrier Opens Doors In Tech for HBCU Students

HP’s Black CIO Ron Guerrier Opens Doors In Tech for HBCU Students

Ron Guerrier transcends his role as global chief information officer at HP, and takes pride in passing the baton to the younger generation of STEM innovators.

“I believe my job right now as a CIO is not just to deliver to the company objectives,” Guerrier proudly tells BLACK ENTERPRISE.

“It is to give a voice and give an opportunity to that next generation because they’re the ones who are going to change the world.”

With more than 25 years of experience managing technology, the Chicago-based trailblazer has been a Fortune 500 CIO for three of his five C-suite jobs. He is driven by his dignified Haitian roots and humble beginnings where he discovered the power of technology and innovation at an early age.

“In the absence of resources, you innovate,” Guerrier says. “And I say that is visiting family in Haiti or having cousins that live here in the projects of Chicago.”

“It’s amazing that when you don’t have much, you find ways to make things come together. I do remember working on my uncle’s car, and he had a Ford and we were putting Dodge parts in it and Chevy parts in it, because the lack of means, you find a way to kind of innovate.”

Growing up, Guerrier was a victim of gun violence and in foster care as a ward of the State of Illinois’ Department of Children & Family Services. These experiences galvanized a second life to champion for not only himself but for inner-city kids and beyond.

A hustler at heart, Guerrier’s ambition led him to repossessing cars in Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minnesota and later rising up the ranks at Toyota from an entry-level customer service rep to CIO.

“The thing that really propelled me at Toyota to go from the repossessions clerk and coordinator to the CIO in the 19 years I was at Toyota was I always volunteered for things,” Guerrier says. “When someone said, ‘We’re looking for these 10 skills,’ I always said, ‘Well, I know I can do six, I’ll learn the other four on the job.'”

“I always pushed myself and placed a bet on myself. And that helped me propel throughout technology opportunities. But that was the first moment where I realized that technology is an enabler.”

At HP, Guerrier is leading with value and community action. He takes great pride in a company that had a plan to amplify its commitments about social justice and racial equality during the nationwide civil unrest following George Floyd‘s death.

“I joined HP and I proudly wear their shirt, is when I met with Enrique [Lores], the CEO, and I saw the members of the board, it’s a diverse board, I was like, this organization is not just reacting to the murder of a man in Minnesota, as many did,” Guerrier says.

“But there was actually a history of them truly reaching out to other communities and diverse communities, but more importantly, really putting their money where their mouth is.”

With Guerrier’s help, HP is also active in building a diverse Black talent ecosystem and pipelines for hiring through its HBCU Business Challenge, HBCU Tech Conference, and more.

Throughout his career, Guerrier has supported numerous programs to drive digital equity education for the Black community at large, including late hip hop artist and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle’s Vector90 youth STEM program.

In his previous role at Farmers Insurance Group, they gently used devices, laptops, and tablets to refurbish and donate them to Vector90, thanks to his non-profit STEM Advantage, which provides opportunities for young women in underserved communities.

Guerrier has worked with Homeboy Industries, a non-profit which provides tech training to former gang members. He led the program to teach them how to refurbish tech devices.

Before embarking on his HP journey, Guerrier worked for Governor JB Pritzker as the head of IT for the state of Illinois, a role that hit close to home. He was not only committing to digitizing the Department of Children and Family Services, but executing a broadband bill that extended throughout the state of Illinois.

Previously, Guerrier held a position as CIO at Express Scripts, the nation’s largest pharmacy benefit manager, and sponsored a company called Blacks in Technology and its BITCOIN conference.

“I was fortunate to be there and Nipsey was there, Senator Klobuchar from Minnesota was there. And it was just amazing to see, clearly my background, his background and the senator of Minnesota all in the room talking about how the importance of diversifying technology to all communities, but really, really being intentional on closing this digital divide,” Guerrier says.

Guerrier’s journey is a testament to all that he has accomplished leading up to this point in his life. For HBCU students and beyond, he strongly believes that IT training and certification pathways are essential to starting a career in tech, despite setbacks for Black at-risk youth and young adults, without a 4-year degree.

“I think there’s a fallacy that everyone has to go to a four-year college and then they get that great tech job,” Guerrier says.

“And so the beautiful thing about tech, back in the day when I was growing up in the nineties, you had to pretty much pay for every training. Nowadays, a lot of the big organizations such as Google, AWS, Microsoft, they provide free training and you just have to pay for the certification.”

For Guerrier, authenticity is key.

“See yourself as the CEO of your brand,” Guerrier advises.

Houston Police Arrest Murder Suspect In Connection To Killing Of Rapper TakeOff

Houston Police Arrest Murder Suspect In Connection To Killing Of Rapper TakeOff

The police have arrested a murder suspect in the death of recording artist TakeOff, CNN reported on Friday.

Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was arrested on the evening of Dec. 1 and charged with the murder of TakeOff, whose real name is Kirsnick Khari Ball. Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner made the announcement during a news conference on Dec. 2. Finner also said that a second man, 22-year-old Cameron Joshua, was charged with the unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Houston Police Department Sgt. Michael Burrow said Clark was responsible for killing Ball.

“We were able to deduce that Patrick Clark is the lethal shooter in the case, and that’s why he’s being charged with murder,” he said.

The Houston Police Department shared a photograph of Clark along with the news conference on Twitter.

Ball was killed in Houston on Nov. 1 outside of 810 Billiards & Bowling following a disagreement during a dice game in which he was not involved. Ball died after being shot in the head and torso. A Celebration of Life for the recording artist was held in Atlanta on Nov. 11.

Burrow said that everyone left the scene following the shooting without speaking to the police. According to ABC13 News, an anonymous witness told the authorities that Joshua had a gun. Surveillance video and the witness led the police to Joshua and Clark.

“I can tell you that Takeoff was not involved in playing in the dice game, he was not involved in the argument that happened outside,” said Burrow. “He was not armed, he was an innocent bystander.”

Finner noted that he’d spoken to Ball’s family and thanked them for their patience during the investigation. “We lost a good man,” he added.

California Reparations Task Force Is Gearing Up to Release Report on Suggestions

California Reparations Task Force Is Gearing Up to Release Report on Suggestions

The nine-member California Reparations Task Force is preparing to release a report to state lawmakers early next year outlining recommendations for state-level reparations.

The New York Times reported the task force has spent months traveling the state to learn about the generational effects of the state’s racist policies and discriminatory actions. The task force was convened by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020.

“We are looking at reparations on a scale that is the largest since Reconstruction,” Jovan Scott Lewis, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and a member of the task force told The Times.

In its preliminary report, released on June 1, the task force outlined how enslaved Black men and women were forced into the state during the gold rush, but racially restrictive covenants and redlining segregated Black Californians in the state’s largest cities.

The task force has determined who is eligible for reparations in the state, saying descendants of enslaved African Americans or of “a free Black person living in the U.S. before the end of the 19th century.”

The group has determined five areas where compensation could be paid to Black Americans: housing discrimination, mass incarceration, unjust property seizures, healthcare, and the devaluation of Black business.

The panel is now considering how the reparations will be distributed, including housing, tuition, and small business grants,

Although the task force’s creation and its report are viewed by many as a bold first step towards reparations, it remains unclear if state lawmakers will follow through on the recommendations, which are likely to require billions of dollars from the state.

National Review reports Black California residents could be eligible for up to $223,200 per person as part of an effort to redress historical housing discrimination. Meanwhile, The New York Post reported the task force has estimated $569 billion is owed in reparations to Black residents.

Cynthia Bailey Finalizes Divorce From Mike Hill

Cynthia Bailey and Mike Hill have finalized their divorce just two months after announcing their split.

On Thursday, a Fulton County judge signed off on dissolving the two-year marriage after Bailey and Hill reached a divorce agreement, TMZ reported.

In Bailey’s filing, she said the marriage was irretrievably broken with no chance of reconciliation after Mike allegedly took part in “inappropriate adulterous relations.”

Hill refuses to make a filing of his own to deny the allegations. But he did sign the divorce agreement days before Bailey did. Hill signed the papers on October 20 and Bailey finally signed on November 1.

Ironically, last year, Bailey remained by Hill’s side when he was accused of cheating with a woman on Snapchat. Hill threatened legal action at the time, claiming the allegations were false, as noted by TMZ.

There shouldn’t be any financial disputes since The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum never mixed their personal finances, taxes, or property during their time together. The height of their romance was captured on RHOA as Bailey shared how smitten she was by Hill during the dating phase.

His proposal was captured onscreen in season 12, and season 13 saw Bailey and Hill go through with hosting their lavish wedding during the height of the pandemic.

Bailey has opened up about what led to the divorce, saying she noticed they were over when the friendship died down.

“I felt like we weren’t friends anymore,” Bailey revealed on the Two T’s in a Pod podcast.

“I felt like it was just going toward we’re just not going to be friends if we didn’t pump the brakes.”

She noted this was her second divorce, after RHOA followed the rise and fall of her seven-year marriage to Peter Thomas.

“This is not my first rodeo,” Bailey added. “I think friendship just has to be there in a marriage. Like, love is great, but friendship has to be there. I truly want to be with my best friend.”

Bailey filed for divorce from Hill in October, just a few days after their second wedding anniversary, Page Six reported.
